THAT IS THE REAL HONEST TRUTH ABOUT HOW MOST ARTIST (ESPECIALLY FEMALES) ARE TREATED IN THE MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT FIELD. LOADS JUST KEEP MOST HORRIFIC THINGS TO THEMSELVES. LIKE DOING SHOWS AND NOT GETTING ONE SINGLE DIME. EVERYONE GETS PAID BUT THE ARTIST. IT IS A FORM OF 'PIMPING'! THAT IS WHY YOU SEE SO MANY ARTIST THAT HAVE TALENT ARE ON STAGES WITH UNDERWEAR AND BED TIME CLOTHING ON!!! PIMPING!!!
Princess reminds me of being a teenager working in Woolworths behind the record counter playing her records. It's so good to hear that shes still in the music industry.
This was and still is my fave soul dance tune to date (say im your no 1) stunned at watching this so much I never knew, but so glad Desiree’s still making great music, gonna find what I been missing, thankyou, Russ UK
Yes, excellent voice indeed.. But she needed to have changed. Music change and she needed to change with the times. Sometimes an artist needs to trust the producers and people behind him instead of insisting on their inputs. Rihanna, Adele, Bieber, Alicia keys, Mariah Carrey, etc continue to be successful because they don't write all their songs but depend on top song writers to create for them. The best tunes are shopped to them. That's what princess with her great voice should have aspired for. Great songs from others she can perform with a few of her own creations filling up an album.
“I’ll Keep On Loving You” was played to death on EastEnders. Same with Five Star, Total Contrast and 52nd Street tracks. Somebody in the production crew appreciated UK R&B music at the time, and I applaud whoever they were.
I grew up listening to all this artists in the 80s to me will always be the greatest era Soul, funk, Jazz, Electro, rap, heavy metal, indie, punk, Latino fusion found its own direction etc
@jd49631 so true about UK R&B on early Eastenders. Occasional references were made to the music by the likes of Wicksy. Another track from that era that was often played in the background was the excellent "No Conversation" by View From The Hill 👌🏾 Nowadays, they seem to have a revival reggae specialist on the production team 😅
To me, Princess's work with SAW was their best. It was different from everything they were doing and fitted her voice well. To this day I still listen to her debut album, which is excellent. Pete Warterman once said he liked her and would still work with her again, as long as her brother Don was kept away. He detested the guy. He also said that Don wanted to turn her into a female Prince, whereas SAW saw her as a much softer figure. I believe the songs from the 2nd album weren't big hits because they sounded like everybody else's records, unlike the singles from the 1st one, which were more distinctive, although still rn'b. By the way, I LOVE the artwork for the fist album. It's just her face, but she looks so good that I find the photo quite hypnotic. I wish her all the best.
@@donovanheslop8741 Set the record straight, then. 🙂What happened? To this day I think she's the best artist that ever worked with SAW. I love the debut album and still listen to it.
MMMAAANNN... This bought back some GREAT Music Memories of 80s New York City for Me. The Graphics firm I worked for was right down the hall from Next Plateau Records. Used to run into Eddie O'Loughlin often. And at times, he would pass on some records to me. And asked what I thought of them. I dated a Woman who worked for PolyGram Records. She would give me records also. It was through one of them (memory is a bit fogged on this) that I got copies of "SAY I'M YOUR NUMBER ONE" and "AFTER THE LOVE HAS GONE. Mel And Kim. I also have their 12" singles. If you can correct me on this, I also recall Princess being with a group called "STARGUARD" (or something to that effect). The only thing I can vaguely remember is the record cover of her posing with a guitar and the band in the background. This video just happened to be on my TH-cam feed page. GREAT JOB! Thanks for bringing back the memories.
Thanks for the info and facts on Princess, she is a class singer and performer. For me her best songs were “Say I am your number 1” After the love has gone” and “Red Hot” Dope tracks🔥🔥 🙏🏽👍🏽

Nice to see you on another cruise! We like the laid back look of the P&0 cruises and have Norwegian Fjords booked for next summer in Iona. Looking forward to seeing more of the ship and the cruise. When are you back in WDW?
I liked Princess. I think Say I'm Your Number One was her finest hour because it was a very good song, very well written. Despite the drum machine / synth elements, the chord changes and modulation were very classical in their essence. Her voice was stunning. The follow-up songs never quite cut it.
I'm shocked at the way she was treated . Especially when you find out that the artist that wanted Say I'm Your Number One was Kylie Minogue. (I've always loved the video for that song because it is like having a time machine going back into what London looked like all those years ago) I didn't know there were any albums after her debut even though I looked over the years. It's such a sad shame really, Princess, Stock, Aitken and Waterman and the public all missed out. She was easily the best vocalist Stock, Aitken and Waterman ever had.
She was so good. Loved her. Still got the album and singles. I really didn't like Stock Aitken and Waterman but loved her. So typical of record companies to treat her that way. Its kind of the norm really. She has a Facebook page now.
I think she was one of the great vocalists out there. "Say I'm your Number 1" was an outstanding song, and she produced an outstanding vocal performance, but then we stumble into where it went wrong. I hear all the talk about contracts and record labels etc.., but the elephant in the room is that the songs she came up with following that were well produced, but they were not good songs, they were poor by any standard, and that is the simple reason they didn't sell. If she had teamed up with a good songwriter, we would be telling a very different story here. You can be the best singer in the world, but if the songs are not good, you will struggle..., and that seems to me what happened here.. Just my opinion. She is an outstanding talent.
One of the most beautiful people I ever met. I was the assistant engineer for Phil Harding at PWL. I was privileged to her Desirae Sing Her album. Such an amazing singer. Such a complex existence. I trust your well? Rob calling, I don't even know how Andy is, he plays the bass on this track. Andy Stennet from Freeze, Jazz funk is on bass. I opted out of Pete's studio space, I found it impossible to cope with. But Hey Hoe, life goes on~~~~~~~
So many of these R & B Divas got the short end of the stick. Shannon (Let The Music Play) never got paid, and I saw a Documentary about Disco and so many of the ladies saw their careers go downhill when disco died down in 1979. Anita Ward (Ring My Bell), Thelma Houston (Don't Leave Me This Way), also many of them sang for their supper performing at Gay Rights Shows like Evelyn "Champagne" King.

The first album was fantastic a true classic. Such a shame that she decided to move on for the second album as it was imho rubbish. I have only ever played it once.
