One of my favorite parts of this particular Death Battle, seeing everyone’s reaction to Guts’ backstory.

they left out A LOT.
The thing with Guts (he's from a manga called Beserk) is most of his story is so overwhelmingly dark that any anime adaptation obv has to scale it back and censor or often times it will just skip over stuff. I'd say the general opinion is every anime adaptation of Beserk is not the best in terms of staying true to the source material. However, if you guys are one to read definitely give the manga a read. If One Piece didn't exist, I'd say Beserk or Vagabond is my favorite all time manga.
The Berserk manga is full of so many beautifully drawn panels. They’re full blown paintings of black and white. Absolutely gorgeous art.
Berserk is peak fiction literally... Its inspired thousands of many other amazing story's out there. Elden Ring for example gets a lot of things and ideas from Berserk's world and Elden Ring is considered one of the best games created.
Correction, Fromsoft as a company takes lots of inspiration from berserk
From greatswords to enemy designs to logo designs (blood echoes logo), throughout all of their souls games
Hell, the Dragonslayer is a weapon in elden ring, obviously the name is changed but the design and description paint a very clear inspiration of the Dragonslayer
@@adamtheriault6743 Honestly the Greatsword reminds me more of Guts' golden age sword than it does the Dragonslayer, which im totally fine with, but it is *not* even close to the monstrosity that the Dragonslayer is.
I believe Final Fantasy 14's Dark Knight Job was also heavily inspired by Guts. And this led to an amazing player-organized event in FF14 after Kentaro Miura (the creator of Berserk) passed away. Tons of players lined the streets of FF 14's towns as Dark Knights holding a silent vigil in Miura's honor, all while Bard players actually played Guts' Theme in-game. It's one of the things that makes FF 14's community so amazing. When they band together for moments like that, it's truly something else.
Rule of thumb you always bet on Batman, if its Batman vs Guts, you bet on Guts.

I would watch the anime, but I'm not really into really dark stories, excessive gore, or the like. Just not my kind of thing. I still have a ton of respect for the series though.
The berserk anime is on crunchy roll but honestly the manga is 1000 times better

Fun fact:
The reason Nightmare couldn't just steal Guts' soul and end the fight instantly, something he DID try to do, is because his soul *technically* alredy belongs to Griffith/Femto.
So ,ironically, this is a rare case where the Brand of Sacrifice was *crucial* to keeping Guts alive long enough to land the killing hit.
Now watch Guts vs Dmitri. Its incredibly awesome
every character in any media that has a big buster sword were all inspired by guts.
Berserk 1997 is the anime to watch.

The berserk story is still going. Unfortunately, the creator of it passed away a couple of years ago.
Kentaro Miura. He was given an in-game memorial in FF 14 by the players too. Dark Knights lined the streets holding a silent vigil, while Bards played Guts' theme as a way to honor Miura's memory. Look it up, it's an amazing thing to see, to be honest.
You got to read the manga instead man, it has everything that isn't censored on video to game media.

You should definitely read Berserk. It's one of the greatest manga of all time.
Man when I watched this years ago I was a soul calibur superfan. Hell my gamertag on Xbox is still inspired by nightmare so I obviously was a little heated that nightmare lost at first knowing just how powerful he is.
Now having watched berserk and read a good chunk of the manga yet killing gods and demons is just what guts does the dude my be mortal but he’s an unstoppable force.
Btw everything they said up until guts gets marked by the demons and has all of his friend killed is just the prequel to his story😅…….
The anime as well only covers the golden age arc (guts origin before he becomes the black swordsman)

Berserk lol I’m warning you now it is probably the most disturbing anime out there YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, but it’s a amazing anime tho lol
the problem with berserk is there's no anime that really does it justice. best are probably the 1990's anime and Berserk The Golden Age Arc - Memorial Edition which is the 3 golden age movies (also pretty okay) cut up in to a anime with some bonus scenes and padding probably making it the most accurate golden age telling yes (golden age is the ark of berserk were it all seems like...mostly... good times untill it all go's bad) if you come across something called berserk 2016...just pretend that doesn't exist :P it's actually quite faithfull to the story but the animation/graphical style is really unfortunate.
I believe on Netflix they have the whole 3 movies there really good
