I love that you post videos of your losses that are good games regardless. Most ccs only post games where they steamroll and it's nice to see one that posts games of the inevitability of bad RNG in terms of matchmaking.
I love the Tromp! My only complaint with it was the 10km air strike cause you had to put yourself into relatively bad positions most of the time to use them. With it at 12km now it may just take the favorite DD slot.
Great review. I got Tromp mostly because I just had coal to spare and it's another T10, but she does allow many different playstyles. The airstrike mechanism is basically new to me because I don't much like the Dutch cruisers. This video was a perfect example of how to play Tromp more effectively.
One thing I noticed when fighting the Tromp, it has nice engine power. It can throttle juke incoming shots very easily. My Shimanto slow shells had a hard time hitting it from less than 10 km range, if not outright impossible without spreading turret shots to try match their throttle commands.
The disadvantage of this ship is that it is slow and has difficulty in active maneuvering. If the enemy decides to follow me, I have no choice but to run away and die. To use both torpedo tubes, the ship needs to be turned, and then you lose all speed.
Its also one of if not the only destroyer with an internal "citadel" that arms a lot of AP shells, even if it doesn't give citadel ribbons. So it can take a lot of damage when spotted
Tromp fan and have a lot of fun rounds with it. Changing the plane strikes to 12k is a huge welcome buff as it's the same range as your torps and you're less at risk of the rock humping cruisers spamming their radars anytime they see an airstrike hit them or a ship nearby. Tromp torps are super sneaky torps and while you only get 3 each side, you'll be surprised how many hits you get with these things, even ones I just did a guess or hunch on, and one or more hits something you didn't even know was out there. This thing played smartly with the airstrikes, and you will be racking up the Witherer achievements consistently. This thing can make camping BBs lives absolutely miserable. 21-point captain with a build into its guns helps a lot vs a DDs if spotted. If you catch a Sherman farming, your airstrikes with absolutely dumpster it. Love what these do to camping ships. The airstrikes and torps will do a lot of the work for you and don't need to add anything to torps in the commander skills. But do recommend the airstrike mod in ship options. Use your speed boosts to help get around the map or trying to escape engagements. DFAA is okish. Helps a bit, but CVs will go after you like crazy, so try to avoid their planes as much as possible. Always remember you have no smokes, so always play with that in mind.
I really enjoyed the show today and in almost every other vid I'm in agreement with you, and usually go get the boat you showcase (and don't see the same results). However, this might be one my favorite video because now I know I don't want Tromp, I can say I'm a hard pass on the further dispensing of chicken shit air strikes. Thank you for your continued guidance.
I think that is to much for the air strike range, when you think about it the Dutch lines(higher tier cruisers )have less air strike range and no torps. This is a torpedo boat and a flying aircraft carrier.
really a fun boat to play with, funny enough I recently played my best game ever with this ship, did 304k dammage, and what's even more fun have the ship torpedo spect, I know it's strange but almost never shoot with this boat because it is very slow and you cannot get away easily
At time stamp 5:49 and following I swear I could hear your ship crew yelling up to the bridge... FIRE TORPS! :) Alas, they were on cool-down (per note below).
Good evening, I've watched a couple of you're replays recently..... what awesome content you have, much appreciated. So much to learn from your "mistakes" ( tongue in cheek ) and your practical feedback on the ships you play. Thank you Potato😎Quality
In this clip I see Iowa 2 and I have seen it in games lods over the last short while. Yet I can't remember it ever being introduced. How do you get this where do you get this WTF is this lol.
8:05 More risk than a BAD carrier. The better CV players move up with their team and stay close to the front because that lets them cycle planes faster. My Audacious tends to be around 12km from the front, though part of that is being able to get away quickly thanks to it's legend mod, but still. A good CV player is with their team. The bad ones that sit back in A1 or J10? Those are barely even spotting anyone or getting any damage, and are functionally not even playing the game.
Shima not using guns is so common because bad players rely on torps to get their kills, because they one shot, so to their eyes they get more kills by torping than using guns, even if it's rarer. At least that's my theory.
my problem with this boat is every time they sit behind an island and dont spot anything. I can see the way you use it that it could be effective, sadly you are an outlier. My philosophy on DDs is, if your not spotting, your torping, if your not torping your spotting and hunting other DDs, if your sitting in a smoke relying on BBs to spot for you your useless. Just my take, I could be wrong but I dont think so.
That's entirely situational, let me give you an example. Imagine you are playing a BB, and you are fighting another BB, but you entered the fight on lower HP, you're going to be spotting that BB anyway. Your friendly DD who has just launched their torps at someone else, and thus has a 120 second reload to do it again, not only smokes up and an angle to make the other BB worried and thus give you a better angle to shoot at them but starts to pepper them with HE, setting fires and causing a bit of damage with their guns, turning the tide of the fight in your favour. Would you have rathered they not smoke up and help you out? Leave you to die in a situation that with their help you could win and carry on the fight? Before it's said, yes I do see the other side of it as well, Friesland smoking up the moment a target is spotted and then spamming F7 and hoping someone else picks up the slack. Or a mix of it with a Khabba knowing they are facing down a Shima and not wanting to push in and spot because they know they'll be spotted long before that Shima is because top tier concealment is wild that way. In general, DDs should be spotting, Cruisers should be dealing damage, and BBs should be tanking. That is the basic rock paper scissors of those classes, but not all ships of each class are made equally so that's not always an option. Would be nice to see the MM take that into account but that's likely never going to happen. Khabba for example is a damage dealing destroyer, it spots with it's face if it does any spotting at all. Stalingrad is a cruiser that tanks, Illinois is a Battleship that is a DPM boat. Incomparable is a BB that can fill the spotting role. Ect ect, I could go on listing exceptions for quite a long time, but I think you get the idea.
@@Stephen__White The issue isnt what a certain DD can do, its that almost exclusively they dont do what they are meant to do in the game. They dont spot, they dont counter other DDs. When Im in a DD, I know my role, and that aint to sit in smoke and spam HE till I get torpedoed. All to often I see DDs with the best concealment refuse to push up or they rush into a cap disregarding any potential radars and get deleted immediately. Every now and then you get lucky and find someone that actually knows how to play a DD, not often.
@@richardburger4859 See that's the thing though, not every DD can play the DD role. Khabba if built into it's strengths has a 9.7km detect. Explain to me how you would counter spot really any DD with a Khabba? And there is little point to not building Khabba to it's strengths because that's all it's got. It's basically a pure gunboat. You are never going to get her concealment down enough to use her torps, and even if you could they are hot garbage. Or how about an Elbing, sure it can get down to 6.5km detect, but is so painfully slow that it would struggle to catch a Daring, and the Daring outspots it by around a km. The Elbing also being a large unmaneuverable DD means that once it's spotted it's going to take a lot of damage. I'm not saying these DDs can't spot, but they do very much struggle doing it in any way that isn't the same as you could do in your BB, while they support you. I'm also not gonna say random players in general are good, for every DD that doesn't push there is one that understands what they are supposed to do... who is let down by their BBs hiding on the A line. I get it can be frustrating, but not every DD was designed equally, and that leads to there being multiple distinct types of DDs that have different roles to play.
@@Stephen__White lol, if those were the DDs that folks hang back in it would be understandable, it isnt. Ive seen every DD in the game not spotting, even when they have the best concealment. Im not talking about the obvious DDs that have shit concealment, its the ones that have good concealment and refuse to play their role. I regularly play the DDs with bad concealment and mange to screen for my team without getting deleted.
@@richardburger4859 See here's the fun thing with anecdotes, because I could say basically the exact same thing but for Battleships. I've seen tanky mid range BBs that have horrible long range accuracy sit back at their max range spamming away with HE like they are a heavy cruiser, instead of pushing up and playing their role, meanwhile I can on average pull 1.7-2.5mill potential damage games out of even the most fragile of BBs easily. The argument made for why those BBs stay in the back is the same that can be made here for your example. They don't have the confidence that anyone will support them if they move up, and without support they will die. I will note I also regularly play Khabba, unless I absolutely have to, I don't go anywhere near the caps, and I also don't even attempt to counter spot DDs unless I have a good idea of where they are before I push in, because I know I will die if I don't know where to even be pushing.
