This year Mushoku Tensei has become my favourite anime of all time. It doesn't have groundbreaking plot of Aot and neither the uniqueness of Ranking of kings or Odd Taxi; but Mushoku Tensei has something special which most animes doesn't have and that is "Immersion". Most of the good animes feels like a good story to me,but mushoku tensei felt real
Watching mushoku tensei made future anime that i watch harder cuz i cant help but to compare the animation, story, music, etc mentally. It is also the first time a show got me reading the source material and i did not regret doing so either.

I also read Blue Period this year and wow what a fantastic story that excels at portraying emotions and quickly became one of my favorites that I have to put down sometimes because it feels to real.
After 2020 killed a lot of my hopes and dreams a year like this comes along with so many bangers that it reminded me why I'm an anime fan in the first place!

Yeah... Blue Period def is one of my favorite mangas in recent years. I heard something interesting from a pretty famous illustrator on their stream. He goes by Lack and did many designs for FGO. He was asked on stream if he read or plan to read Blue Period and the answer was very interesting... He remarked that he won't touch that series even with a 10ft pole cause he's also experienced the hellish reality of japanese entrance exam for the arts and reading Blue Period will just trigger his trauma of that period in his life...
Uhm after watching this video I will say my top 1 on every of this: Manga: Houseki no Kuni (if it counts cuz its on hiatus and this year no chapter dropped but I read it this year) JRPG: NieR Replicant (if it counts as a Rpg) TV Anime: Mushukou Tensei Anime movie: Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Thrice upon a time.
Ranking of kings is my number one tv series for this year too. I glad you also found time to give soda pop a shout out. It's just a nice comfy little movie. Many people I have talked seem to think comfy as not ambitious like that's a bad thing. Also I'm glad to hear Belle is good I have been begging to see that a Deer king (coming out this year.)

Great video! Just a little correction though; The main character artist for SMT V is Masayuki Doi, Kaneko is only mentioned in the credits because he designed a lot of past demons that are in the game. I think Kaneko still works at Atlus but just as a supervisor.
my anime of the year: To your eternity. For me, other anime this year doesn't even came close XD Other than Sonny Boy. Many of them are good regardless like 86, Odd Taxi, Ranking of Kings, Tokyo Revengers, Mieruko (I really suggest everyone watch the whole thing, it is a hidden gem), Mushoke Tensei etc.
Apologies for the tangent but the opening of the "Mushoku Tensei" portion kind of lit this rant I've been sitting on for a long time now. Hopefully it won't be too scatterbrained. I can't help but feel that people have this very messed up view of what Isekai/Another World/Portal Fantasy/etc consists of. Heck, I'd argue it's not even a genre, which I'm starting to see a lot of people call it nowadays, just a plot device at best. That's not even getting into how Portal Fantasy stories have been extremely common for decades and could be found world wide across multiple media, only relatively recently getting coined with the term "Isekia". In a way, I can't blame people for having this stigma against them cause, well, the anime adaptations for many of them are so poor. While I wouldn't say it's a hard rule, nearly every remotely popular Portal Fantasy in the last couple of years were all fairly good adaptations: "KonoSuba", "Saga of Tanya the Evil", "Re:Zero", etc. Heck, there are two in particular that stand out due to the staffing behind them. "Reincarnated as a Slime" had I think every person on the production team being a fan of it and "Mushoku Tensei" had an entire studio created just for it. They weren't perfect but the labors of love behind them showed and they are celebrated for it...mostly. But the ones that are bad adaptations, oh boy are they just bad across the board. Though that's unfortunately a common issue for Japanese animation in general I guess. Way too many shoddy adaptations are getting made these days. That's what people end up seeing and paying attention to. I know there were plenty of Portal Fantasy adaptations I was looking forward to, since I liked the source material or manga adaptations, only to be burned by how awfully badly they got adapted: "Death March", "So I'm a Spider, So What?", "Combatants Will Be Dispatched", etc. And now whenever I see another one get announced, I have so little faith that I start freaking out cause it's basically a coin flip (please let "Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita" be at least decent damn it). Well, that and another possible reason the concept is so disliked is the association with everyone's favorite punching bag "Sword Art Online"...which oddly isn't Portal Fantasy, or at least stopped having associated elements eventually, but whatever. I don't know. It's just strange to me to see this zeitgeist that anything remotely resembling Portal Fantasy as this modern blight. I mean, sure, certain tropes definitely have gotten more popular and prevalent but still. Feels like it's two decades too late.
Vivy Flourite Eyes Song and Odd Taxi we’re also really good. I think that what I loved was that outside of their animation they were just good and interesting stories.

Frieren journeys end is a series I have been following for a while and even in a relatively small channel I am still so fucking glad it is getting talking about. I just love the melancholic atmosphere of shit like frieren. Can't wait to be able to legally read it as the date for volume releases in the UK has been pushed back multiple times for no apparent reason. Waterstones lied to me when they said november, and now its january and its still yet to come out the fuckers.

Mushoku tensei was great but I think I wouldn’t have appreciated the series as much if I found this during an earlier part of my life. Same when I watched the Cowboy Bebop anime for the first time. Frieren looks interesting and hopefully it gets a great adaptation. Ranking of Kings, Odd Taxi and Mushoku Tensei are my top picks. Also I did love Evangelion rebuild and it ended well and concluded it properly. The series had some of the best scenes although I don’t like the Asuka backstory. Also I loved the violet evergarden movie
Personally for me my top three anime of 2021 was 3: urasekai picnic for being a great anime with gay main characters and beautiful animations 2: Ousama Ranking great characters great story telling and beautiful animations and my favourite anime of 2021 was Vivy fluorite eyes song: I thought the anime was just beautiful and the characters were great not to mention the suppressed darkness the anime has while also providing great wholesome moments and great songs aswell not to mention the surprise 13th episode my honourable mentions goes to my next life as a villainess season 2 I think this franchise is great and really added a freshness to the iseakai harem genre by just basically making it a Bi harem with comedy and my last mention goes to Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? I’m not going to explain this one it was a great anime that just made me love the main protagonist
We need and mashile magic and muscles (i fill like i said it wrong) Anime it’ll be refreshing to have something unique as an anime and out an new Idea in an magical world and it’s one of the most hilarious stories i have ever read
