Thank you for putting it the way you did! Not that it’s unreliable, but that it’s difficult to keep reliable! That is so true, it takes a lot of knowledge and experience to keep it going strong! I would recommend to people though that even though it is rwd and cheap, it is not the best drift car, it can still get the job done, but the chassis was designed to slay on road courses or autocross style track racing. This has a lot to do with how the rotary is positioned in the car and also where the driver is located in the car. It is one of the best budget cars on track today, and parts are cheap because there are so many part outs. It’s like the current day s14, but for track. You just have to figure out the rotary stuff and how to rebuild the motor correctly to get it going!
Not entirely true. Everything else like brakes and suspensions have cheap parts and a regular car guy can handle those (They are just like any other car and infact, the suspension system is almost same as miata). The only thing some people might get scared on is the price of fixing the engine once and when it is "used enaugh". If you have few days to use and internet available, you can build the engine yourself and save that money aswell. Source: I own rx-8 that I bought which didn't start due bad compression.
I will always miss my RX8 it was my first car and I crashed it after 3 years of owning it! I daily drove it and tracked it and it was expensive but it made me learn about so much there is to work on a car and now every other car I’ve been driving it’s so easy and a breeze but that does take the special feeling out for me that the rotory was just undeniably cool asf
Yeah, the same was true of the RX7's back in my day. I thought about one or two. They were cheap, which was great. BUT, I couldn't be sure that the previous owners did what they needed to do to get the car to go it's full life of 60K or 80K or maaaayyybe 100K miles. I didn't want to buy a good deal at 40K only to find out that, even with all the maintenance work I put into it, it only lasted to 60K. My best friend Roger got burned by this. Luckily, he could afford to drop in a new motor. It was a TON of fun, and back in those days, we didn't have as many options for cars that were a ton of fun like that RX7 was. Yeah, my Rabbit GTi was cool and all, and a ton of fun in it's own right. But Roger's RX7 ran rings around my GTi. Sounds like the story is still the same for Mazda Rotary engines, but nowadays you have more options out there. Solid video, Mark.
I've heard of some people doing a miata engine swap on these. If people didnt mind the labor/process, I feel lkke it would pay of in the end. It'll be more reliable, more fuel efficient, and have more aftermarket support for the emgine. The main reason why the RX8 is unreliable is because of the engine, so if you chamge that, it'll be perfect.
Also, just stay away from the automatics at all costs unless you have to get one! The motor had some little things different with it, that doesn’t affect power, but majorly affects your rebuilds of the rotary. It is not good for longevity as the manual is.
I love my 8 and the renesis. Watching that needle climb just past 9k and the feeling you get is unlike anything you get for it’s price point. I also love h8ters😂.
This was in my recommended before TH-cam could even load the thumbnail 😂
Hahaha massive W

Overall, the Mazda RX8 is a very unique car. However, it's really expensive to maintain
Exactly bro

Smart man right here
As an rx8 owner I’d say this pretty much sums up what it’s like to own one of these
Greetz from me, a RX8 owner, happy daily driving it to my satisfaction ;-)
How has the experience of daily driving it been? I was thinking of daily driving the RX8.

I haven’t seen you do a good bad and ugly on a neon. Would be cool if you did one. SPECIFICALLY the srt4 though lmao
Good idea lol
I mean thicker oil, two stroke in the fuel, replacing fan actuators and thermostats and you can make it more reliable.

The good: the engine (it sucks)
The bad: It sucks
The ugly: just look at it
Nahhh it doesn’t look that bad
Also, just stay away from the automatics at all costs unless you have to get one! The motor had some little things different with it, that doesn’t affect power, but majorly affects your rebuilds of the rotary. It is not good for longevity as the manual is.
