- White is a rook up in material but black threatens to trap it. How do we get out of this threat and turn it into a victory?
This puzzle was composed by Mark Liburkin in 1935.

Beautiful puzzle, which completely defeated me! Even after you showed us the correct first move I didn't see how White could escape.
Once again, quite amusing
Really astonishing!
I couldn't see the Rook sacrifice.
Me neither!
How about that? This was a really neat puzzle. Thank you.
You always bring the best.... excellent combination. Thank you very much. Really appreciate your efforts in the analysis, video creation and other background stuffs which you do.
Double !! ; I agree.
I give myself only one « ! » as I was able to find only the first step with the knight.
Another very brilliant study
Totally surprised by the single knight's mate. Applause for Mark Liburkin!
I have watched everyone of your puzzles since "Never Give Up" about 7 months ago
I have NEVER got any of the right ☹😪😭 BUT enjoy trying.
this is one that totally got me stumped I was even stumped at 3:19 WoW
ONE day I hope I can get one right????????
Brilliant!!
Cool mate. Did not see that one.
This study reminds me of Liburkin. But the starting position seems - to my memory - to be different. I believe the black pawn was not on e3 in the inital position of Liburkin. - But what I do know is that this study is famous.
@@petersiegfriedkrug You are perfectly right, the original study is a lot more complex. I looked at that first but realized it demanded a video of 15-20 minutes, that's why I chose a shorter version like this.
How about a puzzle where black wins?
Simple: Just invert the pieces and flip the board positioning about the 4½ rank.
Pure evil, lol.
