It's so absurd that I pretty much own all the Rockstar games, including LA Noire and GTA V, which I installed on my computer but a pirated versions because I dislike the Rockstar launcher. With the pirated version, I just click on it, and it starts without the need for a login. There is something wrong with the industry when a pirated version is more convenient than a legitimate one. It is so asinine, and this is coming from a legitimate owner of those games. Heck, in Grand Theft Auto IV, they re-establish the multiplayer and the original soundtrack of the game, in the pirated version. I am so pissed off about that fact. Rockstar is literally their own worst enemy in preserving their own game.
@@everyone01 It is infuriating, wouldn’t you agree? This problem is not limited to Rockstar. Fans have to fix their game to be enjoyed. From my point of view, this is a problem with copyright law. I just wanna say, I've been struggling with this on PC for so long, just dealing with the insane jumparound of frames in an effort to play a better looking version of the original version on consoles, and alot of times reverting to the console versions just for some stability. But with this vid, I can now happily play this FINALLY without issues, and it makes me wanna cry. Thank you for all of this! Explained everything perfectly without confusion and made me feel far smarter than I am. Thank you!
i dont know if its just me, but after the installation, the game was running even more worse than before installation, also your probably one of the few youtubers who provide tutorials proffesionaly, you explain everything so it makes sense, you even provide alternatives to when the first method dont work, and you dont make things confusing, thank you so much keep doing what you are doing and your channel will keep growing drastically
DXVK is a universal tool, not a GTA4 specific mod, that's why you don't need to drag all the files, but choose what you exactly need, for those who are confused. edit: Don't forget to drag dxgi.dll file, the channel owner seemed to forget it
What does this file do? I didn't install it as it wasn't mentioned by the video creator, and I've seen no meaningful improvement. Could this be the reason?
@@alistairmscott it basically switches the API from directx to vulkan, which gives you additional free 20-30 FPS. No, it doubt that it was the reason. Generally because the mods he mentions don't dramatically change the game. They are essential mods that help you with optimisation and stuttering. I installed DXVK alongside with Fusion Fix. I no longer experience FPS drops. The game looks almost the same, however I suggest playing around with gamma (and saturation) settings. Turn off bloom in video settings (not graphics), and set the filter you like (IV, TBoGT, TLaD, off).
@@KKilgore thanks for the reply. I'm running everything at max on a 1080 screen. Less than a year old, well equipped laptop. Was hoping for 60ish FPS, instead it's around 30 when driving at speed, only going to 45-50 if I'm standing there doing nothing staring at a wall. CPU showing approximately 20% use, GPU much less, so the laptop isn't struggling.
@@alistairmscott No problem. Sometimes with old games it's rather about optimization than the PC. Or you need to have some NASA computer. I wish they remastered IV already, not for the graphics but at least for the PC optimization. I have a laptop as well. GPU: RTX 2060. I had been playing with everything ultra until I got tired of 40-60 FPS. I reduced all the distance settings from 100 to 1. Sometimes the game looks weird and some minor objects become visible only when you're really close. But generally I got 100+ FPS on average. Maybe that'll help you, if you don't mind the minor visual consequences.
@@KKilgore I'm on an RTX 4060, i7 CPU, 16GB RAM. I'm not a PC gamer by any stretch, I'm a Playstation guy, but GTA 4 was always disappointing on PS3, not even 720 native (think it was upscaled from about 640) and struggled to hit 30fps. I've always wanted to play it with decent visual fidelity and frame rate, thought this laptop and the mods mentioned by the OP would sort it.
@@pooperlord53 I’m unsure if it’ll work with that pacific cpu, but I have one similar and it didn’t seem to work well, yet again I may have done some of the setup steps for DXVK wrong so take what I say with a grain of salt
Watched your first video and had the stuck at 1280 Resolution but I just added these to thee commandline.txt. -width 1920 -height 1080 -fullscreen -refreshrate 144. Game launches as it should in correct resolution and aspect ratio as long as you don't go into graphics and toggle the res left or right as it dissapears but I'm just about to watch this video now anyway as I appreciate your work dude. Game definitely runs beautifully with no stutters at all for me. JUST A QUICK SIDE NOTE - DXVK Is now 2.3 and that's the one I got as it's the latest as of March 19th (2024) Thumbs up my friend.
I was intimidated at first, but after doing this as well as the graphic improvements in your other video, it turned out to be really easy! I have a RTX 4090 and even after the DXVK I still do have some chop, but it’s an improvement from how the game was without it. Your videos are amazing man, I appreciate the well in-depth tutorials. I promise it will pay off if it hasn’t already. Time to go play now
For anyone whose game crashes after installing dxvk try updating the graphics drivers, it solved the issue of game crashing and I did not have to specify the video memory it just worked
THANK YOU!!! Finally I can enjoy GTA 4 again and NOT have to worry about the damn game crashing every time I want to Alt + Tab out of it. Though I wish GTA 4 supported borderless fullscreen, but this is the next best thing. Thanks again for you're clear and concise guide on how to get GTA 4 running flawlessly now :)
This literally made a night and day difference on my laptop! Now I get stable 60 FPS at high at 4K. It was stuttering and dropping frames all over the place, no matter the settings or resolution. Now it is butter smooth! Thanks!
Been looking for this fix... Thank you so much...🙏 I wondered how GTA 4 isn't compatible with my 3070ti... Thank you for this fix... It's my first time playing GTA 4🎉❤
I tried like 7 different methods throughout the years, now I found your video. Did everything as you said, but then the game crashed at every launch. As my last resort I updates my graphics driver manually, and now it WORKS!!! No more stutterting, no more lagging, no more anything. Finally, I can play GTA IV, thanks to you. Massive respect to you, and thank you!!! I just hope the game stays this way so I can enjoy it for a long time. Thank you man.

Finally someone that included cracked players by saying if i don't have ot in steam or Rockstar then i can just ad ot to steam. Helped alot at finding a way to get better performance bc nobody ever said that in other tutorials so i never got it running till now thanks alot
8:32 a small correction: As example 1080p can be wider than 16:9. There are monitors with 2560 x 1080 (it is still a 1080p res, but wider, 21:9). Same can apply to other res too.
1080p aka Full HD aka FHD has always been precisely 1920x1080 pixels in 16:9 aspect ratio. 2560x1080 is called UW (ultrawide) 1080p or UWFHD if you will. Same thing with UWQHD and UW4K. While UWFHD is "technically" still 1080p, the aspect ratio is different and there are more pixels to fill so it's "1080p" in the same way that 1200p is 1080p. (it's not)
Dude, you are a champion. I am one of those people who's computer runs this game at over 100fps, but suffers unplayable stuttering and frame syncing issues. DXVK completely fixes this and delivers a smooth experience. Kudos are in order.
I just got this on steam sale this weekend, and I came across this vid before I even played it. Works great! Vulcan api is apparently included in my rtx 3070 game ready drivers. No issues, except for zooming in on cutscenes, which I fixed by setting my resolution to 1920x1080 60fps, hope it helps someone. Thanks again!
So listen up...I have an Rx 6600 non xt card and let me tell you this improved performance by 50 percent! When I installed Fusion fix I lost about 50 percent of performance and was having stutters and low average fps around 55. This brought it up to 140! thanks so much!
It is probably a driver related issue. I'm having the same issue. I just keep trying different versions; 2.3.1, 1.10.3, 2.0, 2.6 e.ct but nothing works.
@@moister3727 Yeah so 1.10 doesn't exist anymore on the DXVK github, the d3d9.dll that is. The d3d9.dll was removed from every single version that came before 1.10, due to being incompatible with the current version of Vulkan 1.3 (or something like that).
Thank you very much for the guide! I did one extra step as I found out on my setup Ryzen 3600x & RTX 2070 Super I was getting crazy screen tearing. My game used to run very slow, even on startup. The mouse would buffer and take second to load, clicking stuff would take near 5 seconds to properly input. This made the game run smoother and i can finally play the game again. Thank you
It runs BUTTERY SMOOTH for about 5 minutes, or until a cutscene and then becomes a choppy mess. I finally fixed the stuttering issue on my computer. Turns out I had to enable the Steam Overlay for GTA 4. For whatever reason, this stopped the stutter. Right-click on GTA 4 in Steam, go to Properties. Then look for the "Enable Steam Overlay in-game", turn on this switch. The stuttering should now be fixed!
The game is still unplayable for me. It starts at 60fps then after a minute it drops to 40-50 with heavy constant stutters. I tried every combination of settings, fps cap, framerate limiter, vsync, shader precaching and anything else I could think of and I just can't get rid of the stutter.

That's VRAM starvation. If you have a laptop with mux switch, try enabling switchable graphics mode instead of discrete mode in BIOS, which should free up some VRAM. Closing apps in the background can also help.

I still having a lot of issues even using DXVK.. stutter still happen A LOT! but I found a temporary solution for decreasing the stutter and make it more enjoyable (yeah the stutter still happen but just a fewer times). Just try to cap the FPS to 30 FPS by Nvidia control panel, and it's good as I remembered in PS3 era. (I'm using the last DXVK 2.3 versions). the setting is all maxed out with 1620P resolution. Could you please make a tutorial on how to install the Various Fixes, Console Visuals & Fusion Fix mod? I can not get them to work togheter. Volumetric lighting doesn't work on my version.
I'd like to thank the people who created the DXVK cause I can finally enjoy GTA IV. and it used to be a game I never liked and could never get into even though my friends love it to deth but now I get it.. not only do I get it.. but I consider it to be a masterpiece now and I wholeheartedly believe it to be the best GTA game ever made. and all it took was a lil dll file to make the game smooth as butter so I can finally sit and enjoy the game without constantly being taken out of the immersion because of a bad port behavior. so again.. thank you!~
Hey man. great video, thanks. I have installed Fusion Fix and everything is working (recoil, DoF, Rain etc.) The only thing that won't display is volumetric lights, I even went to the same one in the aptment that you showed. simple instructions and it worked great thank you, I literally have an i9 a nd 4070 and have to do this to not get stutters this game is optimized terribly.
For people that still have issues with the Resolution/Aspect ratio add the following commands in the launch options : -width x -height x (x - your monitor refreshrate ex: 1920 width 1080 height) 16:9 1080p -refreshrate x (x - your monitor refreshrate) and if you want to cap your framerate you can use rivatuner so you have less framedrops
Mate! Thank you. It's been a while between playthroughs. It ran like garbage before your videos, I have a Ryzen 5600X and a RTX 3060ti. It's not the highest spec PC in the world but it should be able to run GTAIV! I have installed the 4 mods you recommended as well as DXVK. I can now run it at a stable 75 fps @ 3440 x 1440p again it should be better than that but it's smooth and it looks good. Cheers!
I have an Ryzen 3700 and an RTX 3060Ti and the Game runs smooth without the mods, at 6k resolution and max settings at around 70fps...(smooth 50fps with 8k as well). The mods made it run worse now...
Did some more testing. Without mod, at a resolution of 5760 x 3240 all settings maxed out even shadows and draw distance so on and I get around 80fps most of the time. With the mod it actually gets worse, it's more around the 60s than the 80s, I even tried to lower some settings and stuff but like others said, this dxvk stuff doesn't really improve anything for a lot of people, for some it actually makes it worse. I'm surprised it works for you with mod but without it doesn't run since we have a pretty similar system.
@RequiemDream that's really interesting. When I ran thr vanilla game, the framerate would jump around quite a lot, anywhere from 45fps to 150+ and extreme stuttering! It was basically unplayable. Now it's stable, we is all I really wanted. I would be nice if I could lock it to 120fps but for some reason, 75 is all I can get. I'll take it though
Hey bro thank you SOO SOO MUCH! I got gta 4 today and i have a weak computer, and had to run on the lowest settings possible, but after this video, i can finally see the true and realistc gta 4
It works for me at september 2024, I can even use night shadows xD advice: Don't be scare if the processor fires-up, Vulkan it's made for use every core of the CPU so it's normal :D
For anyone that has an issue with the fps suddenly going down to something like 51 fps with stutter after 5 minutes,if you play the game on steam, turn on steam overlay. Not sure what causes it but it fixed the problem.
Unbelievable. Amazing. Just awesome. Thank you so much. I bought GTA IV today, since I've never played it and it was a decent price, I figured I'd give it a shot and after all these years, everything would be polished. That was a mistake...the game ran very poorly even on my decent pc (5800x3D, 32gb ram and 3090). Specifically some 80-120fps in QHD and very high, and very very strong stuttering. Using your video I'm playing in 5k resolution at more or less smooth 100-180fps!!!! Thank you!

In the game section of the in-game settings there is an option "skip start screen" or something along those lines. Turn that off and you will get the splash screen again to choose which to play. Hope that helps.

Same, I install d3d9.dll and the game get 48/52FPS all high, I remove it and i get 73/75 fps all high.
(it's not)

Can the steam overlay feature work on non steam games?
Unbelievable. Amazing. Just awesome. Thank you so much. I bought GTA IV today, since I've never played it and it was a decent price, I figured I'd give it a shot and after all these years, everything would be polished. That was a mistake...the game ran very poorly even on my decent pc (5800x3D, 32gb ram and 3090). Specifically some 80-120fps in QHD and very high, and very very strong stuttering. Using your video I'm playing in 5k resolution at more or less smooth 100-180fps!!!! Thank you!
4:29 i don't have this GTA IV folder, i downloaded GTA IV through steam could you plz help me?
@@Msi696 Very strange, check if you are looking in the right folder or check the integrity of the game
Where exactly do i have to look?@@jantoman4400
@@jantoman4400 Something's wrong with my GTA 4, the cutscenes are really choppy and laggy but the overall gameplay is smooth af but when i enter the apartment which we ge in the beginning of the game my games runs in like 1 FPS does this happen with you too?

my game just straight launching the gta iv story when opend and i have the othere episodes and the complete addition but i cant play tblogt and tlatd someone know what can i do ?
In the game section of the in-game settings there is an option "skip start screen" or something along those lines. Turn that off and you will get the splash screen again to choose which to play. Hope that helps.
doesnt work for me, the old version makes the game stutter while the new version seems to do nothing... i locked my fps to 60 and still get framedrops to 45
Same man. Cant play this game anymore. Its one of my favourite game but not anymore
I'm using an Intel arc a750. DXVK didn't increase the overall framerate but it made reduced stutters a lot.
Thank you so much now i have a smooth 4k 60fps with my 7900XT.
good instructions but what are the other dll files from dxvk for? if we only use d3d9?
Thank you! You made it easy and quick. Keep up the amazing work!
my game doesn't start after adding the d3d9 file idk why
