The company owns three major publishing labels, Rockstar Games, Zynga and 2K, which operate internal game development studios." T2 is responsible for many bad decisions, but R* is not innocent either.
R* is the biggest, most profitable studio under their banner. If R* told T2 to chill out with the takedowns, they'd probably do it simply because Rockstar is that influential.

This has been an issue since Rockstar removed the Hot Coffee Mod of GTA San Andreas and blamed the PC gaming community for them including cut adult content in their game files. They threw us under the bus, when they should have simply said that it was already an adult game and the content was already cut. Ever since then, PC has always come last in their eyes. 15 Years for Red Dead Redemption PC for god sakes. It's because of this it got me politically active and I am with the Pirate Party. Digital Rights are absolutely a political issue and we need to fight these scummy companies who take their fans/most loyal customers for a ride.

I imagine furious Strauss Zelnick walking into Rockstar office screaming that this morning he seen this 10 year old GTA Advance PC Port mod for GTA 3 and that we gotta take this down ASAP because the entire corporation is in danger!!!!!! 💀💀
If that would be even the case 😂 Zelnick just sits in his office and looks where they can cut corners, save 1 cent. Then he tells his lawyers team to look out for anything that could affect the release of the GTA Trilogy Defective Edition. So the lawyers run an AI trough keywords and send down a lot of takedowns in hope no one is fighting against those letters. Even if they are poorly written.
I made several mods, one of the biggest ones I called "whetstone docks", it was a new city for a samp server, but I ended up converting it into IPL for singleplayer as well. When you make these additions you have the desire to positively surprise Rockstar, that they add them to their official version for their quality and in the best of cases they hire you, not that they pursue you legally. It's a shame that we have such a different mentality, but this is the market, my friend.
that's one huge reason why the modding community around BGS games flourish. They're surprisingly hands off, with the worst scenarios being them updating a game that breaks a few essential mods that many others rely on, which is usually fixed in a matter of days. And they let massive projects like Enderal, Fallout London, Skyblivion/wind, etc. be in active development and be released as essentially entire community spinoffs. With the recent potential leaks there's a growing concern that might take a step in the opposite direction. I wouldn't want a mediocre official remake taking light away from a huge fan project that's taken so much time and effort to produce.
Crazy how much more people working for free can do than billion dollar corporations, it seems like companies have learned nothing from Valve, a lot of it's empire was built alongside their community, instead of stomping said community into the ground. You'd think these corporations would jump at the opportunity to take advantage of the work of the passion of modders
FiveM wasn't the only time Rockstar showed support to modders, and that's what makes their antiquated approach so hurtful. Back in the early days of the Rockstar Newswire, mods were posted and praised constantly by R*. IV:SA was posted, a type of mod that would get a DMCA immediately nowadays. Their new approach feels like betrayal, and it's stupidly old fashioned. Companies like CDPR and Bethesda don't send you copyright notices, they send you fucking job offers.
The Newswire post that has always stuck out to me is the one that showcased the GTA 1 map in GTA IV mod. If this were post-2013 Rockstar, you just know they'd have gotten Take-Two to send their legal goons to the creator's home for "threatening" their IP.
They even paid tribute to a Filipino GTA content creator called Fernando "Yeardley Diamond" Agapito who made a lot of viral GTA machinima videos in the early 2010s before his untimely passing. I doubt they'd care as much about him these days.
For Steam Deck users not only did Take-Two take down the original versions of the trilogy, they took down mods that made the games work on linux. I found the GTA III linux mod and it makes the game run at a locked in 30fps (GTA III wasn't made to go higher) and fixes all of the issues proton causes such as the opening not playing.
You can use the ps2 versions of original trilogy on steam deck with the PCSX2 emulator since you have a build-in gamepad. However, native linux mod can give you much better performance and mods possibilities
VI Online will be full of predatory ways for R* to squeeze out every single penny out of you. It's guaranteed, and anyone who claims otherwise is braindead.
Their aggressive attitude has honestly gotten worse and it's a shame to see overall. To go from this company that was all for supporting mods back in the day and even having them in the newsletters to then becoming a company that despises and hates them is just so sad. Honestly like you said, LCS PC Edition they could've really turned that into something official since it shows people do want that stories titles on modern platforms too still. There is a part of me that wants to hope the old Rockstar comes back in how they treat the fans and modding community. But then I know that's not likely to ever happen.
In parallel with LCS PC, there was an ongoing LCS reverse-engineering effort by the same team that reverse engineered III and VC. Had Rockstar sued the team a couple of months later than when it happened, we'd have a working and highly accurate PC port of LCS today.
I'm glad to see someone else mention that Rockstar used to support mods. I first found out about IV:SA through the Newswire and thought it was the coolest thing ever. That's something their lawyers would be salivating over nowadays.
It's worth noting that GTA modding didn't start with GTA3. It started and was officially supported back in the earliest days with GTA1/2. GTA1 had a scripting guide by DMA Design released for it. And GTA2 had an official level editor that DMA Design released.
Ngl the whole Take Two going after modders made me want to develop my own game. I was spending soo much time making mods for what? so this greedy company that can just take down my hard work at a moments notice
Modding is like tuning your own car. If you are crazy you may could build your entire own car. But you already like a certain car and just want to customize it to your personality.
They took down all those mods, because they knew fully well that the Definitive Edition was shit. They just wanted to eliminate the competition, eliminate any kind of threat to any profit they'd make off of the Definitive Edition. Why do you think they also delisted the original versions off of storefronts? So that new players would have no choice but to play the Definitive Edition. That's how I see it.
Take down inoffensive and well made mods that people made without gaining a single dollar with it: ✅ Take down expensively paid mod menus from GTA V that ruin people's experience: ❌❌❌❌❌❌
As much as I love Rockstar's single player games, it is really disgusting how they and Take Two treat passionate fans like this. They need to understand that people make mods not to compete with them but because they love these games and this is their way of showing that support. The modding community is part reason why these games are still iconic and allow people to experience these games in ways that people never imagined. I also find it impossible to think the fact that the Rockstar Games Launcher versions of their games are not mod-friendly INTENTIONALLY because of this.
They removed mods recklessly. Why Vice Cry? Simply because it was one of the most downloaded for VC on ModDB, without asking themself what does this mod do and if it contains copyrighted files in it or not. T2 is one more reason i despise the DE's.
They can DMCA whatever they want. People will use Discord servers, off the google weird forum sites to distribute and develop these mods. I think the main concern of Rockstar is websites like Moddb and Liberty City who are capable of making profit off of mods. They just don’t want other companies to make money.
Hey man, I just want to say thank you, without you I would still be playing the GTA SA steam version with no mods, you showed me the way and I will not forget you, I will send any squires on the same quest to your archive of truth. BEANZ
Makes me worried of what Take-Two will do to the GTA Vice City Nextgen Edition project. I'm really looking forward to replay Vice City in GTA IV's engine.
I hope DarkViperAU sees this and understands that the purchase of the FiveM team, was not to implement RP features in VI, but to prevent competition from a free alternative to GTA Online's abusive inflation.
They clearly did it as a PR move as they wanted to save face by acquiring the mod as a "goodwill" measure rather than endure a rash of harassment from those who are already incensed by their litigation.
I subbed. You helped me make my GTA SA on PC even playable with one of your tutorials. I also made it 2-player compatible and added some graphic mods, so me and my sibling who grew up playing it, can play it now and it's better than ever! Thanks for the videos man.
Ok, something unrelated but look at what SCS games do (the makers of Eurotruck Simulator2 and American Truck Simulator). their games keep getting better and better because of the modding community. they even made their games mod compatible. had rockstar at least supported GTA modders or just let them be, it would've made their games better.
Imagine if Rockstar actually worked with those modders to make the Definitive Edition. They'd have ended up with a much better project AND for much cheaper too.
tbf to rockstar the LCS RE PC port literally was packed with the exe file and everything else needed to run, the game was built upon the VC engine and included all that is needed to run the game without owning VC, So it was literal piracy no matter what way you slice it and the creator Ryadica also had their own patreon on top of that, where one of their VC VCS style mod was behind a patreon paywall, basically all that was was a VC reskinned to look like VCS with VCS assets and to top it off it also had a full version of VC again, exe included with it so i mean.. he was kind of asking for trouble by re selling a copy of VC too his supporters, In fact i am sure a big reason Raydica in particular got hit so hard that he disappeared from the internet was because he was making money off of their assets, And it would have been a matter of time that rockstar or t2 would have gotten to him regardless of DE. That's the only one where i can see that rockstar was 100% in the right to take down the other mods not so much because you needed to the original games too even use them.
Mods not mentioned include various graphical mods, the GTA V UI mod for SA and GTA V map for SA. The reason these mods were taken down? Because the advertised *features* they were introducing in the trilogy were already in existance beforehand as mods in a better, more stable verdion of the game. If the fanbase *actually* knew how much the trilogy wasn't needed to be produced at all, and how it's overall a lesser experience today than 5 years ago on PC with all the taken down mods.
This is why I absolutely hate Rockstar and Take 2.. They should praise and encourage modders, much like CD Project Red does. I find the lack of care and respect they have for these titles that allowed them to become such a big element in the gaming industry, disgusting.
Respectfully, in my opinion GTA Underground has a better equivalent today called GTA Stars and Stripes but I was real mad and depressed about it originally getting taken down. GTA Advance, Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories PC Edition mods getting taken down is still making me mad. They won't give us a port and won't let us have our own version either? And as for the rest of the nods, thanks to GSG we have the source codes of all 3 trilogy games. Nice
I think what prevents Vice City Stories to be ported to other platforms would be copyrighted music or likeness actors, like Phil Collins who plays his own role in the game. But then again, Vice City and San Andreas had the same issues but were ported just fine...
Even with how insanely stupid pricing is for licensed music, doesn't make any sense for rockstar to refuse to make a pc port of VCS they're not more poor than they were back then, they can afford to license more music, hell they could probably hire people to make custom tracks to mimic the original soundtrack They're just that cheap.
@@Verchiel_ Considering Phil Collins had a role in VCS as himself, and contained his music. I wouldn't be surprised if that is *THE* reason R* is so reluctant on porting it. I have heard he is a bit of a diva. Pair that up with R*'s (recent) practice of putting as little hands-on work as possible for anything but the main cash cow, I don't think a port will ever come.

the VCS pc mod was so unfinished, it felt like just a reskinned SA mod (peds still had their original SA quotes), really shame, we never got a VCS pc mod, at least close to what the LCS one was...
It was very advanced in many other ways however, the team were mainly focused on the backend of the game and VCS PC Edition led to so many more developments in the San Andreas mod scene, so it's a pretty significant mod.
The biggest loss was the shutdown of re3 which was reverse enginnering various 3d-era games. III and VC were mostly done and LCS was running but it's very buggy. This would've been great because it allowed these games to run on diffrent platfroms. For example we would have LCS and VCS on PC. And instead we got a pile of garbage that DE is.
I'm going to be so pissed if they kill GTA LC'01. That mod is quite possibly the most ambitious and polished mod for GTA 3 that will essentially remake GTA 3 as if it came out in the era between San Andreas and GTA IV. And all the while, It's still using the GTA 3 engine.
Im part of a somewhat small community related to a mod for assetto corsa, and the amount of people that show up on discord saying that they bought the game just to play the mod is actually impressive considering the size of this community so rockstar is juat being dumb when it comes to killing these mods as they all require a copy of the game, even the reverse engineeared versions of vice city and III require the original assets, and you install it on top of a legit copy of the game, it's mostly just an .exe and some complementary files, liberty city stories for PC was nuked because they actually distributed the entire game folder and therefore could qualify as piracy, but the game also is a total conversion of vice city so it kinda requires everything, i played it and it's basically perfect
Rockstar and Take Two should take a lesson from SCS Software of Prague, Czech. Yes, they take a hard stance against payware mods. But, freeware ones they whole heartedly endorse. Hell, they even hire modders to work on their two big titles right now. Those being Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator. Plus, they do Open Beta sessions so the community can test new updates out before they go live and they can give feedback to SCS. That's how it should be done. Not this.
Question: when modders release a GTA similar by themselves? So they do competition to these not deserving teams for their communities? They want the community to end bad, then community react.
Modders, please, start your own games, be together, release better than these ungrateful changed teams. If you really like doing it, making your own games should be a priority, to make money and also to pursue passion aside. (If someone want to correct or add ideas tell)
it will be rehashed bs. to say they spent this amount of time is bs. look at how amazing gta 4 turned out in half the time. the trailer of gta 6 all the vehicles looked to have the exact same handling model as gta 5
@@Fusion710 I wouldn't go that far. There's more to a game than just graphics. Beyond what you see around you, there are hundreds of scripts and system at work, to make the world feel alive. It's what Rockstar is good at, and I expect something big. However judging from my experience in the past 10 years with them, the campaign will probably be the only thing worth playing. And I'm simply not wiling to spend 80 or 90 bucks just on that. I'd probably pay that price to play the online component as well, and that (unlike V Online) will be built around the GTA+ subscription. It's not something I'm looking forward to.
Since there is no financial gain for the modders, I don't really understand Cockstar's problem. I mean sure, you can support a modder on patreon for example but that is your choice, the mods are still free, they are not behind a paywall, there is nothing illegal going on. I think the mentality here is : " Let's take these mods down so the younger generations of players will only know OUR versions, OUR games that we give out and not to give them any ideas to bother with modding the originals.
Some recommendations for your success, add some more visual elements, and maybe have less of a long winded intro. Great video you put together, just some work needs to be done for viewer experience
12:30 The developers of the mods specifically asked to not refer to their mod as "GTA LCS: PC Edition" or something along those lines, but to refer to it as "GTA Re:LCS" or "GTA Re: Liberty City Stories". No worries though, but I though I'd let you know that since you always show the upmost respect to GTA modders driven by passion.
@despacheetos1 Honestly there's not much information around about the mod anymore, the GTAForums thread is gone and I believe the Discord is gone too. I remember the mod being called PC Edition, even by the developers. I do know at one point the aim of the mod was to reverse engineer the original game, as part of the reIII/reVC projects, but it was basically a different mod at that point. The mod that was shut down was still called PC Edition on ModDB as far as I know when it was shut down, so I decided to stick with that.
The main catalyst series of shutdowns is GTA re lcs Last updated build got paywalled (containing full game, not upgrade patch), people angry, and also got re3 and revc shutdown because of the name
What one does with true dedication for love, doesnt compare with what these people try to cover with their wallets. You can't live for free, but taking a slice of everything that exists is so sick.
Modders should realize they need to keep their operations out of the territory of the USA and their satellites. This way they could not be shut down - best Take2 could do is block access to their sites, but VPN exists and in time enough people will learn how and where to find the mod they want.

I still work on the project now and then because it’s still a fun hobby remaking things on the GTA 5 engine but I wouldn’t want the risk of publishing it so Take2 can throw me in jail and murder my family.
Shame on Rockstar. Leaving mods alone does nothing and lets people enjoy your games long past their original life cycle. Shutting down mods only causes ill will.
But that's exactly what t2/rockstar fears. They believe that every player who spends time in the older games isn't spending money in the newer ones. quite funny, isn't it? almost as if you can't play both OLD and NEW games on the same computer.
SAMP came around in an era where the gaming wasn’t that mainstream and companies didn’t care that much. SAMP was unnoticed and with the release of Gta IV, it became abandonware. There was a Samp alternative for Gta Iv. Rockstar shut it down immediately.
well, its multiple factors, and the one you said isnt really a true. First its limitations made by developers. The story scripts are too invasive, so a story Total conversions mods, or even simplest mission edits arent possible. Second factor is gta 5 doesnt have that much of interest as 3d gtas has. Hell, even gta 4 doesnt have many, if any story Total conversions mods to this day. The last one i could think of is the thing that most modders out there are from brazil and russia, and most of them have low spec computer to this day. Also there is couple of Total conversions mods similiar to old gtas, fron the top of my head is ragsnriches, las venturas project, and liberty city preservetion project.
If someone asks, why I dont wait the GTA 6, and why I hate the studio, when the GTA SA is my favourite game, my answer is this. It's disgusting what they did.
Honestly, despite whatever Rockstar did and said, fans that were creating those mods could have continue working on the mods silently and releasing them out of nowhere quietly and privately. That way any problems with Rockstar could be avoided. But looks like that people are too scared to do something like this. I personally were waiting for GTA Vice City Stories RE PC Edition but it was abandoned, which is sucks.
all this, i was really following the vice city stories pc port and wanted it finished, sad that it got taken down, meanwhile some modder recreated half life 1 in the source engine in 6 years, and constantly been updating it just for valve to allow them to sell it on their own platform and make mula off of it. thats why valve are the best
And people are praising the ceo of taketwo in interviews like hes responsible for the success of gta, gta devs dont dislike the modders but the ceos and stakeholders who dont do any work but leech of it
It’s a shame how they dmca these cool mods. Like LCS & VCS should got the fivem treatment or probably get hired at Rockstar for their hard work and passion. This is like Activision when they shut down Sm2 & H2m.
It's honestly why I'm contemplating not buying anything related to R* ever again. They don't deserve the money. Luckily we've got Fromsoftware these days. Hopefully they stick to what they do best & don't start DMCA-ing everything souls related.
I had most of these in my PC back then years ago. GTA RE:LCS was my favourite because it helped me finally complete LCS which i couldnt before due to absence of PC port. Underground, GTA III on Vice Engine were my other favourites. I liked VCS PC Edition as well, too bad it always crashed after a few missions back then. now its been a long i retired from GTA gaming, in 2020s R* and T2 take down mods, i suggest everyone to get them from internet archive, it has most of those mods and mor estuff
Despite of Rockstar and T2 actions there are people which still loves them because of GTA VI. Hell, I can even put Rockstar in the same level as EA an Ubisoft which they done similar or even more greedy stuff and yet, people simply don't care

If you think R*, being the biggest, most influential and profitable of the group, has no say in decisions that _directly_ affect their bottom line, you're the one who's never had a corporate job.

This has been an issue since Rockstar removed the Hot Coffee Mod of GTA San Andreas and blamed the PC gaming community for them including cut adult content in their game files. They threw us under the bus, when they should have simply said that it was already an adult game and the content was already cut.

Just like the GTA games, once a close friend, now an enemy.
And Valve, even their games like Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat and Team Fortress were started as a Half-Life mod
They even paid tribute to a Filipino GTA content creator called Fernando "Yeardley Diamond" Agapito who made a lot of viral GTA machinima videos in the early 2010s before his untimely passing. I doubt they'd care as much about him these days.
@@blakegriplingph I used to love watching YD. Has it really been ten years?
For Steam Deck users not only did Take-Two take down the original versions of the trilogy, they took down mods that made the games work on linux.
I found the GTA III linux mod and it makes the game run at a locked in 30fps (GTA III wasn't made to go higher) and fixes all of the issues proton causes such as the opening not playing.
You can use the ps2 versions of original trilogy on steam deck with the PCSX2 emulator since you have a build-in gamepad. However, native linux mod can give you much better performance and mods possibilities
Remember this when the GTA VI hype will start again.

@@Հովհաննես wasn't saying that it was their fault since Rockstar left those animations in the files.
It's worth noting that GTA modding didn't start with GTA3. It started and was officially supported back in the earliest days with GTA1/2. GTA1 had a scripting guide by DMA Design released for it. And GTA2 had an official level editor that DMA Design released.
Rockstar themselves even bought licences for GTACars when they developed the London expansions and thanked the author in the credits.
Gta 5 was a slop, and 6 will be a bigger slop full of predatory micro transactions crap

Take down inoffensive and well made mods that people made without gaining a single dollar with it: ✅
Take down expensively paid mod menus from GTA V that ruin people's experience: ❌❌❌❌❌❌
Thank you and I'm glad to have helped!
They say it's all about money, but I bet those modders would work for a bag of crackers. That's how passionate they are.
tbf to rockstar the LCS RE PC port literally was packed with the exe file and everything else needed to run, the game was built upon the VC engine and included all that is needed to run the game without owning VC, So it was literal piracy no matter what way you slice it and the creator Ryadica also had their own patreon on top of that, where one of their VC VCS style mod was behind a patreon paywall, basically all that was was a VC reskinned to look like VCS with VCS assets and to top it off it also had a full version of VC again, exe included with it so i mean.. he was kind of asking for trouble by re selling a copy of VC too his supporters, In fact i am sure a big reason Raydica in particular got hit so hard that he disappeared from the internet was because he was making money off of their assets, And it would have been a matter of time that rockstar or t2 would have gotten to him regardless of DE.
Rockstar now becomes a joker after the failure of GTA Trilogy DE 🤡
Respectfully, in my opinion GTA Underground has a better equivalent today called GTA Stars and Stripes but I was real mad and depressed about it originally getting taken down.
GTA Advance, Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories PC Edition mods getting taken down is still making me mad. They won't give us a port and won't let us have our own version either?
And as for the rest of the nods, thanks to GSG we have the source codes of all 3 trilogy games. Nice
Always pirate from corporations.
I think what prevents Vice City Stories to be ported to other platforms would be copyrighted music or likeness actors, like Phil Collins who plays his own role in the game. But then again, Vice City and San Andreas had the same issues but were ported just fine...
Even with how insanely stupid pricing is for licensed music, doesn't make any sense for rockstar to refuse to make a pc port of VCS
they're not more poor than they were back then, they can afford to license more music, hell they could probably hire people to make custom tracks to mimic the original soundtrack
They're just that cheap.

It was very advanced in many other ways however, the team were mainly focused on the backend of the game and VCS PC Edition led to so many more developments in the San Andreas mod scene, so it's a pretty significant mod.
yeah it‘s one of the major reasons why they are skipping PC at launch
Im part of a somewhat small community related to a mod for assetto corsa, and the amount of people that show up on discord saying that they bought the game just to play the mod is actually impressive considering the size of this community so rockstar is juat being dumb when it comes to killing these mods as they all require a copy of the game, even the reverse engineeared versions of vice city and III require the original assets, and you install it on top of a legit copy of the game, it's mostly just an .exe and some complementary files, liberty city stories for PC was nuked because they actually distributed the entire game folder and therefore could qualify as piracy, but the game also is a total conversion of vice city so it kinda requires everything, i played it and it's basically perfect
it's honestly not worth it for R* to put their time in taking down the mods instead of improving and enhancing their games they never learn
I lost a lot of respect for rockstar just from the GTA underground being taken down because rockstars shitty remake
I wish everyone would abnegate GTA 6 in revenge, but I'm afraid that won't happen.
Not this.
Luigi should've gotten Strauss Zelnick instead.
Question: when modders release a GTA similar by themselves? So they do competition to these not deserving teams for their communities? They want the community to end bad, then community react.
