I had a martial arts master and his children that taught taekwondo, and also trained hapkido and hanguldo. These days he’s 9th dan in all 3 so he’s a pretty traditional fighter. He however knew that allot of kids learning there were also there to learn to defend themselves. Because of that he always showed us the way it’s officially done for matches, and the way you should do it in case of self defense. The roundhouse kick is one of the first kicks we learned, and the first thing he said is if you’re in a bad situation kick with your shins. He told us to put all our weight, and force behind the kick. That’s because you want to disable them with the first kick so they aren’t able to fight back. Tbh because he taught us how to fight harder we definitely got some extra wins.
