Can we also talk about the overly idiotic nature of new lego games? Children aren’t even allowed to be exposed to death, a natural part of life anymore. In the original games, there was still lots of funny moments while managing to keep some seriousness, showing that characters can in fact, die. Now? Its idiocy throughout the entire sequence of cutscenes and games and its not even well done.
I'm glad that somebody else noticed this. It's been a problem with LEGO games for a while. There was a trope in these games a while ago where the level would basically tell you how to play it without any room for figuring it out yourself, but now we've reached the point where the game literally plays itself while you look on, confused.
Exactly, if you keep babying kids in video games with no consequences for failure, then they won't feel any sense of accomplishment for when they _do_ beat a hard level or complete a difficult task. Like in the story time segment of the video shows, I could _never_ beat that freakin' podrace level in the original Lego Star Wars, and I still can't. I always had to ask my older sister to beat it for me, and she seemed to have zero difficulty with it. The game barely gives you enough time to make it through the checkpoints fast enough while also avoiding crashing into walls and cr@p, it's borderline impossible for the target demographic. They made the level more tolerable in TCS, but the point is challenge is a good thing, just don't make games _too_ difficult for your target audience. Skywalker Saga somehow made things too overly-complicated and too simple, it's a freakin' paradox in gaming if I've ever seen it.
I think the best way to describe the difference between the two games is to use a quote from Fred Rogers. “I feel so strongly that deep and simple (The Complete Saga) is far more essential than shallow and complex (The Skywalker Saga).”
My mom and i always play lego games together, when this came out it was exactly like you said, i understood more so i was bored (plus as player 2, yea that lava part in "The High Ground was so laughable bad) but the UI confused my mom, the enemies blocking because she needed to combo confused her cause it had always been "mash the Y button". It became a chore to play, great video about the worst lego game i've ever played loll.
Yeah.. i had fun while playing the game. But more and more, i noticed how mind numming it is and how many problems it had. The dlcs also only add a few characters straight away, and most of them feel like they could've used something to make them feel a bit more.. special. It wasn't too bad of a game, but it does leave me craving The Complete Saga even more
Having played a bit of both games, I feel like the new lego games don't feel like lego anymore, new health bar styles, mechanics, and small graphical details. Amazing video aswell.
“Subsequent Lego titles would impress less and less…” While Lego Batman is onscreen. That and Lego Indiana Jones brought something new to the table and refined the gold standard set by Lego Star Wars, making up the Holy Trinity of Lego games. They all sit comfortably alongside each other in terms of aesthetics, charm, and gameplay.
@@superkey835 I disagree that was pretty good tbh. Honestly the Anakin boss fight in TSS is clearly harder as combat in general is more difficult in that game.
I agree with this as Skywalker Saga is FAAAR too easy, however when it comes to the cutscenes in it, I don't mind them being more jokey compared to the originals as that is how Lego is nowadays and for the most part the jokes hit pretty okay, at least from what I remember I haven't played the game in a good bit. My main issue with the game honestly is how some level segments take place in the open world causing some replay-ability to be a bit eh considering some parts of the story are lost, requiring the only way to do so being make a new save and play through that way
I disagree, the jokey parts aren’t funny or really lego style oriented, its gotten to the point where its brain candy for children, which is wrong. Children are not idiots, as a child, seeing Qui gon jin die in the game was NOT at all traumatic, having some kind of seriousness makes you feel like actions matter in the universe, otherwise there is no death, how can Vader or Qui gon die when maul was bouncing around without arms and legs, which would spell certain death in the original games? This lack of depth I’m willing to argue just turns games into brain rot for children, like mindless scrolling on youtube.
I feel you dude, TCS was my first videogame ever. It's something I enjoy going back to every now and again. TSS is just another modern corporate piece of garbage. The magic is just... gone.
Ive been on a journey, playing most Lego games made by Tt and Ive noticed a trend of the challenge of these games declining, while the worlds and character rosters expand. I think the newer games lost the charm of the originals and its never been clearer than with the Skywalker Saga. Bigger ≠ better !
For me Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga is a great game and I’ve had hours of fun with it and it was a great remake/reimagining of the Star Wars. Like with The Complete Saga and other games before The Skywalker Saga I’ve had great fun with every Lego game I’ve played, overall in my opinion Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga is a great game and one of the best Lego games that I’ve ever played, but each to their own, though I agree Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga has its faults and it isn’t perfect but it’s an enjoyable experience. 👍🏻
Wow, very articulated video. I did enjoy Skywalker Saga, but Complete Saga (and LEGO Star Wars III in it's own way) is LEAGUES better than Skywalker Saga.
Tbh, it's not that bad. I'm still thinking of getting it. But it's definitely a step down to the originals. Plenty of it doesn't make sense as you explain yes. But at least they are trying something new which I understand. But the thing I noticed, this game is a lot like AC Odyssey, but a little better. Short story missions, huge game with lots of secrets and side missions. Only difference is...the secrets and side missions aren't as repetitive as AC Odyssey. But! Boy I hope they don't take it down that path...if they do then it will be the downfall 💯. This is our future of gaming, including Starfield, and how many other games with nothing but boring repetitive side missions and same secrets copy and pasted with very little story to explore. This is a dangerous sign to our Lego games. What they need to do to improve is give us more level design and trash enemy combat and more puzzles, with all this extra non repetitive side missions and it would be so awesome! But since there's a lot that doesn't make sense in this, I'm guessing our writers didn't do their research which is also a dangerous sign that our new dev staff doesn't give a shiz about our beloved franchise. So gotta admit, we're in the red here... 😨 It's almost as if this game was done by half devs that were there for the originals and huge fans of Star wars in general and the other half were new devs that just don't know anything about it. And as those old devs leave and retire, we're screwed completely. It's almost as if you can really notice that. And I do wonder...
I don't nesscesarily "dislike" Skywalker Saga and you might be right regarding those Lego Star Wars games, my big issue with the Lego games as a whole is how dying is a slap on the wrist, all though this might be a bigger issue with Skywalker Saga since combat doesn't feel too bad but it lacks challenge. You were pretty reasonable here, something throughout my entire playthrough about Skywalker Saga felt "off" and you might've described it. That pod race and the Obi Wan and Anakin duel were weird moments in the whole game of the original where you actually had to try to succeed. The rest of the game had dying be a slap on the wrist, but it's hard to deny that the older Lego Star Wars did have that "pick up and play" feel where Skywalker Saga feels like an amalgamation of so many thing while throwing so much at you. Not a bad video for something the algorithm reccomended me, not bad at all.
