    I love how the game's protag isn't just talking to himself at every moment and instead has an internal monologue, and when he does speak it doesn't feel unfitting.

    • @janelle9998

      It's unfitting in my opinion. All of the narrations and text noises take away from the lonely feeling that should be in liminal spaces. It doesn't let the player process things in their own mind and I feel that it could be a much better game without a random character's thoughts and speech. That's only really useful when trying to tell a story in a game, or for directions to the player.
      The text makes it seem like the developer is trying to get the player to feel the same as the character, but for anyone who knows what liminal spaces, anemoia, or autophobia is, these commentations are really not needed in order to feel something from the game. There's also an awful lot of noise in the game despite the player being supposedly alone.

    I’ve finally realized why I’m so obsessed with liminal space stuff...The subtle incorporation of horror and futuristic components into an overall retro aesthetics is so captivating in a way difficult to describe with words. Dream-ish perhaps, I mean where parts come from your imagination and parts come from your past experiences. It’s like a brief escape from reality and a prolonged version of my fever dreams which usually don’t last long in my memory. Plus this game has great graphics, would love to try it one day

    People use the word "dreamlike" too often, but this truly feels like exploring a space in a dream. The familiar settings tied to nonsensical layouts really pushes this feeling. You are trying to go to a certain place you have in your mind, but every new corner you turn or opening you come to seems to distract and disorient from that.
    Really, REALLY like this.

    • @scoobydoobydoooo
      @scoobydoobydoooo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      I was thinking that too. Also, how it could be a game with a different type of scare. Rather than the obvious scare of "something is going to kill me" it could be more of a feeling of continuing ease and dread. Of claustrophobia and just a constant churn of unease like one gets in their dreams. Stuff that lingers into the psyche.
      I feel like the developer here is really tapping into that. I've always found indoor leisure centres with the smell of chlorine and the damp air, the weird pools and unnatural slides do all make for a strange eerie feeling. I also love how the layout made no sense and there were things you could look up and down into that had mystery in them.

    Games like this feel like you've been transported to a future where humanity has gone extinct and you're the last one left, stuck in these weird spaces that were built by whatever came after humanity from observations they made of things that humanity had built (like spas and malls) with no understanding of why we built them or what we used them for. im in love with this! this happened a lot in my dreams. you spawned in a big place that many people supposed to be there but you're all alone, gave you the feeling of anxiety. this is totally evokes my childhood fear, fear of being left alone, lonely, and lost.

  • @Kagashimin

    Really amazing. I always thought a lot of other games don't capture the feeling well but this game completely nailed liminal spaces. No monster needed. The environment is more than enough to terrify someone.

    I just want to thanks ABG for playing this right after it comes out, this game encapsulates what liminal spaces is in an almost perfect way, the unusual architecture with the eery emptiness but at the same time something familiar and comfortable, the sound effects where perfect, I almost felt that water falling down over me making me nostalgic about how long I don't go to a pool because pandemic. Great work for a solo person

    This reminds me of those times I spent in this hotel as a kid. It had a water park, and me and my family managed to find this wonderful greece-themed alcove with a small bar, that was completely empty of people but had the water running. A small waterfall, a large but shallow pool and a set of water jets, with some more styled like heads on the wall to the side. All of it was running. It was beautiful. Over the upcoming years, more people started visiting it, and the owners decided to build one of those slide structures for kids slap in the middle. None of the jets run anymore. I hadn't been there in a long time, but this brings back memories.

  • @lazerNeo

    The setting really plays into the eeriness of liminal spaces. It just made me slowly more and more uncomfortable the whole time walking around the spa/pool. And when the monster finally showed up I literally got chills despite the fact the creature was just a shadowy figure. Very nice game with nice graphics and a well-executed build up.

  • @woffydoggy686

    I love this!
    The ambience is incredible, graphics are great, and the first aparitions of this shadow: in the distance, on a partially hidden or dark places where is difficult to see it gives a real supernatural vibe to this entity, not like in other games where the monster/ghost/thing runs to you destroying all possible mistery aura.

    This game reminds me of one of the "Of the Killer" games. I forget the exact name of it, but it was set in a pool, and I think it was one of if not the first "of the killer" game ABG covered on this channel. OBV different games, but the whole "mysterious pool area" atmosphere just gives me vibes of that game. Especially the music.

    Looks really cool. I've been fascinated with these liminal spaces for the last couple of days, so of course TH-cam sends me this video my way. The only little feedback that I have is that I wish the 'ghost' was only a shadow and you would only be able to see him as he's cast on the walls of the locker rooms to give the only threat in the game this extra unique twist.

    The entire setting is honestly just a pleasure to explore, especially with pools and slides and indoor waterpark stuff, and the ethereal music that plays makes it even better. I would honestly enjoy just walking around and exploring more than it being a horror game, not to say that the horror aspect is bad, it's very good and compliments the eeriness. I just absolutely adore how mystical it is and what a vibe it is.

    This was actually a game that genuinely spooked me in a long while; a place that is supposed to be fun for everyone but it's completely abandoned, only you're not alone.... Also, great tour of Epstein's Island underground bunker, I imagine this is what it looks like beneath the surface... Hope to see more!

    omg i'm so glad they removed the audible dialogue! the desolate atmosphere really sticks when there's no voice pointing out things we could already deduce.

    • @ampersandKnuckles
      @ampersandKnuckles 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      of course some of the dialogue is necessary, but incorporating it into text form makes it seem much more like it's coming from us rather than some person we can't see. it's such a little change but it made a much bigger difference than i thought it would

    This game really has some of that “places you’ve never been to but have seen in your dreams before” kinda vibe and the amount of space in that pool made it feel lonely, which makes it all the more scarier. I also enjoy the whole abandoned mall Dreamcore vibe. Hope the guy finds a way out

  • @MrKoffeeKup

    This is honestly how many of my nightmares that have really stuck with me turn out. Strange halls and corridors that don't make much sense but have a distinct theme. Parking garage, warehouse, even a pool complex that looks almost exactly like this, strange floating entities.

  • @HansAlRachid
    @HansAlRachid 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Okay wow, I absolutely adore the art design and atmosphere here, not to mention how it captures that weird, unsettling sense of displacement luxurious places like spas and the like often create. You end up feeling like you should not be there, like the place was not meant for you, you know? Very impressive stuff.

    i love liminal spaces, they're so unsettling, like a dream you're worried will go wrong at any minute and you won't me able to wake up from. it's a lingering sense of unease. the best way to explain it is to compare it to uncanny valley, like the way mannequins, dolls, and things that are normal, but just don't "look right" make you anxious.
