@@josephvalenzuela311 - she wrote it with Rod Stewart in mind but changed her mind and recorded it. The version for Rod would have been different then what we know and love.
If you're a baby boomer who was buying her records, going to the clubs and experiencing that disco culture at the right age. Then count yourselves lucky. We had the time of our lives. I was in my 20s in the late 70s.

WITHOUT Donna there would be NO Madonna and whatever their names are!! DONNA was and is the queen of all beginnings of today's music! … She was the ancestor of all singers who came after her!! ... I first saw Donna on January 10, 1976 in the "Star Parade" when she sang the song "Love to love you Baby"! It was wonderful!!! ...THEN Donna's world career began!! ... A strong melancholy comes up with me again and again that she is no longer there!! ✨💎✨🕯 Thank you
Donna Summer knocked this one out of the park (no pun intended). It was a cover of the Jimmy Webb-penned 1968 song by actor Richard Harris who took his much slower version to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The 60s band The Association actually turned this song down because they felt the orchestration was too complicated. Summer made it her own and it became her first of four No.1's in a 13-month period between October 1978-November 1979. She was on FIRE! For a real treat, check out "MacArthur Park Suite" which runs 17 minutes and 34 seconds. I guarantee, it'll blow you away. Even when I was in the clubs in the 90's, 15 years after this release, this never failed to jam the dance floor. She was one of the greatest female vocalists of all time. RIP, Donna.
Steven Housman you have just made my Day I have been trying to find the Long Version of Macarthur Park for ages and I have literally been googling the wrong thing Extended, 12", Long etc never looked for Suite! Until Today! Amazon £5.99 25 Tracks Including Suite on way!! Have a Great Weekend!!
I always considered Donna Summer’s “MacArthur Park” her best vocal performance, which became #1 on the Billboard Charts. I’ve seen Donna Summer perform twice in person, and her voice is extraordinary powerful that soars through the auditorium. A tragic loss to lose this beautiful talented lady too soon.

Barbra n Donna voices went together like peanut butter n jelly enjoy all her music awesome singer!!! I’m pretty sure Bruce Springsteen wrote a song for Donna! This is the equivalent of watching Donna Summer singing the dictionary: The lyrics don’t matter-and the lyrics to this song are just nuts! But damn she just belts them out and it’s simply phenomenal. Love her so much. She brought it on every tune! A light that shined so bright for way too short of a time. She is sorely missed. 🙏🏻
I read someewhere that the lyrics are referring to a bad relationship that is being washed away, that she put so much into it and can never reproduce it "I'll never have that recipe again".
Thanks y'all for covering Donna, she was THE absolute disco goddess during my bartending years in the late 70's. And no matter what people said about disco, this woman's voice was incredible.
The big hit for this song was the Richard Harris version. Yes, the same Richard Harris that played Dumbledore in the first 2 movies. Explanation for the lyrics. This is a song about lost love. His love fell apart "like a cake in the rain" and he doesn't think he will ever have another one like it. Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it 'Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again
If you had to tell folks about a version of this nobody knows about, it couldn’t have been that big of a hit. The only and definitely version is Donna’s.
Listening to this is so bittersweet. As a kid in the 70s I do remember her voice being everywhere during the last half of the decade. Think of the biggest female entertainer today and that was Donna in the 70s. You needed all three of the Bee-Gees to compete with her. And hers was the celebrity death that hit me the hardest. More than MJ, Prince, Bowie, George, or Whitney. I think the reason for that is that you could see Donna had a beautiful soul. RIP Donna. You are deeply missed. 🌹
I’m lucky I got free ticket to she Donna Summer in 1983 for her “She works hard for the money” tour in the San Francisco Bay Area . Incredible performance and will never forget. Thanks Bill Heart for the free tickets.

Reminds me of my mom. She would sneak out the house and go to the disco. She would tell me “don’t answer the phone don’t open the door, and go to sleep” 😂😂😂
I had the pleasure of attending a private performance of hers at Universal Studios before it was remodeled back in the day, and radio does not do her voice justice at all. I was stunned to hear the perfect pitch of her voice, brought a tear to my eye. I will NEVER forget that event, blew me absolutely away.

Cool that you're listening to Donna Summer. The next one I'd love your reaction to is "I Feel Love." I love the Disco music back in the late 70 s I love dancing to it and I love Donna Summer singing . She was one of my favorite Disco singers
Great Reaction friends!!
Wow! 🎊😀 I'm sure it was fantastic!!
Donna summer can hold a note a very very long time.
The best version of this song !
Her voice is just heavenly ......
Donna Summer's version of this song hit #1 for three weeks in November, 1978. If you get a chance listen to MacArthur Park Suite from her album "Live and More".
Great advice. It's the same level of awesomeness, but for 18 minutes instead of just 4.
It’s fabulous
YES! It also has the gorgeous bridge in "MacArthur Park" that this 45 version doesn't have. The drama in that suite is just so perfect.
Love Donna Summer, always reminds me if my dad, he just thought she was the best ever...our family would always dance to her music during any event. YOU NEED TO REACT TO "DIM ALL THE LIGHTS" AND "ON THE RADIO" PLEASE!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
“Someone left the cake out in the rain”. This song had some crazy lyrics but it didn’t matter. The strobe lights were going off. The disco ball was spinning. And I was in the middle of the dance floor having the time of my life. Thank you Donna for some great memories.
@Doctor. I just hope it wasn't some poor kid's birthday 🎂.
The cake was a metaphor for the writer’s relationship; ‘it took so long to bake it’ being how long they’d been together.
This is the jam. She is missed. Love her
I hated disco but I loved her. One of the most beautiful women to ever walk the earth.
had the double LP when I was a kid and this still is just fantastic 40+ years later.
I ride my back past MacArthur Park in Los Angeles all the time and I sing this song. And when I ride down Sunset Blvd, I sing her song 'Sunset People'
And when I listen to the Radio.. I sing her song On The Radio!
@@ENDTIMEsVideoLibrary Do you dim all the lights?
I grew up near MacArthur Park in Los Angeles. My grandma used to take me there to run around. Now if you go there you gonna get shanked!
*My very FIRST concert was her "Live and More" tour, the double album that spawned this mega-hit. I will never forget it! My choice for #1 disco song of all time! You should really check out the 18-minute extended version, "MacArthur Park Suite!"*
