I love your videos Chris, they are a balm for the soul with the wide open spaces, birds and plant life explained, and the general peace and calm of them. They're essential viewing in todays hectic world (I find anyway). When I can't get there myself it's the next best thing. Reminds me of long walks with my uncle in Calderdale.
Hello Escelle and thanks for the lovely comment. Calderdale is looking particularly lovely at this time of year. I did a very nice walk above and through Hardcastle Crags recently. Best wishes, Chris
Hi Chris - enjoyed joining you for this hike and wild camp! Nice old stone structure. Sure did seem cold and blustery for May. Glad you stayed warm enough. Would have been great for you to see some more wildflowers, I think they’re later than normal in our area too. Lovely to see the Redstart! 👌😄🥾🥾
Hello Jennifer. May is my favourite month of the year but this one was most unseasonal. I do like the Yorkshire Dales though so could put up with it 🙂. Best wishes, Chris
Boggy McBog Face. I'm well accustomed to that. 😂 It's been one of the worst Mays weather wise for a long time Chris. Good use of the stone building for some shelter. I've noticed on FB you like your boxing. 😁
A dreadful May it has been, my favourite month too. Boo! Boxing-wise, I like watching some of the old legends and fights from when I was a lad and even further back 🥊. Thanks for watching and commenting pal. 👍
The bog to end all bogs! Jeeeze it was ominous looking, well done for making it through and around that, the trig said it all! Wise move to move on for a picth, very wise. Bet that was hard work, be neigh on impossible in the winery huh! The old stone building was a great pitch and sock airer! Only so much the Sealskins will take hey, defo time for some new boots Chris, it's been a wet old May and that shows it. Well done you 🤗👍🏕 your efforts made for a very watchable video, thank you and catch you soon, Ceri and Kat ☕❤
Hello you two, hope all is well. I've been meaning to get this one out of the way for a year or two now so at least I have and will never have to venture on that God-forsaken moor ever again 😀! The problem is when doing the Dales 30, the last few I have (6 I think) are the ones I've been putting off, ie the grim ones! My boots have gone at just the right time as I typically wear trail runners in the summer months but will need to get sorted for autumn and winter. Many thanks for watching and commenting. Take care, Chris
That bog reminds me of the Pennine Way as it crosses the Cheviots. Deeeeep bottomless and just wider than you can leap with a heavy rucksack....has been very unusual this year for the weather. Time for some new boots me thinks...atb Chris.
My main memory of the Cheviots was when I did the PW as a lad. Yes, it was grim as I recall. This weather has been dreadful for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris
Great again Chris👍fantastic views from up at the trigpoint The weather this May has been incredibly wet everywhere, felt for you mate going through the bogs!! Keep em coming👍👍
I really liked this one Chris, you like me find the remotest of places 👍 Those moors certainly hold there fair share of water and I think some new boots are required lol . Where you pitched up was very nice with the old building, and as I type the weather has improved but I cant get out till next weekend . atb Dave
How do Dave. My boots have just gone at the right time as it's trail runner season now. I do like the quiet remote places for sure. I've just got back from the North Pennines but stayed on a really simple campsite on a farm. It's for Pennine Way walkers I think. Nice to experience some sun and warmth😎! Cheers, Chris
Looks like tha needs some new boots looking at those Chris lol..an area I've not been to yockenthwaite but my mate has & I remember him saying it were a slog. Nice little spot though there at that little old stone hut & nice to hear the curlew. Tfs mate Andy.
I've booked a boot fitting at Mountainfeet in Marsden Andy but they couldn't fit me in until July (it's like going to the docs!)! I think I've seen your pal's vid when I was researching the place. Still, I've done it now and will never have to go ever again 😀! Cheers for watching and commenting mate. Chris
Good going Chris - that was a good bit of bog bashing. Ordinarily I like to navigate bog for that side stepping fun but this one really did sound like the bog of bogs. You found a a reasonable spot in the end though and with Curlew for company. Enjoyed that one mate. Have a cool week. Mark
Cheers Mark. It was a hill I've been meaning to do for a few years so it was nice to get it out of the way. I doubt I'll be going back😀! Have a great week and enjoy the sunshine. Best wishes, Chris
Hi Chris. What a landscape! May has certainly been lousy weather wise, hopefully it hasn't had too bad an effect on the ground nesting birds. Cracking video, as always!👍 All the best!
I love the bleakness of the moors, what a great spot to pitch up. Looks like a visit to the boot shop for you then. I bought a pair of Altberg's a couple a years back. The lightest leather boot I've had. Ideal. I do envy your bird identification skills atb Grant.
Hello Grant. So many people tell me to check Altbergs out. I have a stockist not too far away too and will check them out. I'm a bit of a bird nerd really, as was my dad. It must run in the family! ATB, Chris
Allways fancied camping near that old shepherds retreat, found it on the Geograph website a while back, looks really tufty/lumpy though. Lovely place Wharfdale.
Great area Chris, Ive heard the reputation of the bogs up there. Similar experience on my last Lakes one, stretch from High Tove to Armbouth Fell. Should have taken my boots off and waded it 😂. Know what you mean about the weather. A good one I use for the nose is fold your beanie down over your eyes and just have the bottom of your nose poking out, works well for me 🙂 TFS 👍
I'm glad it's not just me who gets a cold nose Dave. My pal Lee really takes the piss and reckons there's summat wrong with me 😁! I'll try the beanie technique. At least I've bagged in now so never need to go again. Good to see the weather perking up these last few days for sure. Cheers, Chris
I see you been back out bagging in my back yard...lol :) You found the bog then...lol, I hate that place with a vengeance I done it in 2019 in the early spring & it was knee deep, one i wont be returning to in a hurry.
How do George. Yes, it was a bit grim on the moor, though Cray Gill was bewitchingly beautiful. It did seem weirdly wintery though in the valley with many of the trees still bare. I'm glad that one is behind me for sure! Hope you are well mate. Cheers, Chris
Another good un Chris, HubberHolme church is fantastic, mousy Thompson everywhere, if you look at my Outershaw Tarn I touch on how terrible that trip is to Yockenthwaite Moor, one thing I will say it’s probably the reason most people don’t bother which probably means you would normally get it to yourself. Treat yourself to some new boots pal and take care 😊👏👏👏👏👏
I think your Outershaw vid was the first of yours I watched TIto. I was researching the area as I recall. It's a shame the church was shut because it is a real stunner, my favourite in the Dales I think. Yes, new boots definitely in order. Best wishes, Chris
Some lovely scenic views at start of your walk, but looking overcast weather later on. At least you looked well wrapped up for the occasion. Looks a lot worse than our boggy walk over Holcombe Moors, but I enjoy sharing your adventures on route. p.s. are you going to invest in some new walking boots?🥾
Thanks for watching Shanita. No hurry for new boots at this time of year as I often walk in trainers in summer. Will definitely have to get some for autumn though 🙂. Cheers, Chris
That looked a very boggy path. May has been absolutely garbage hasn’t it? Even the last few days won’t redeem it! The actual pitch looked good with the makeshift washing line 🙂. I’m definitely not ready for those conditions you walked in there and camped in. I think it’s fair weather camping only for a bit for me until I’m more confident
Hello Anthony. It's taken me a good while (and expensive gear 🙄) to get to the stage for gruellers like this and winter camping. I should add, that I am no masochist and much prefer fair weather spring and summer camps as I love being able to sit out and relax. I think your approach is spot on. Imagine going out when conditions are hideous in the early days, it would put you off for life! I'm looking forward to seeing where you go next. 🙂
Yes, the boots seem to have split all at once, no warning. Saying that, I am a bit rough with my gear and because the fit suits there is a fair chance I'll get some more. Cheers, Chris

Cheers Des'. Yes, can't recall a spring like it. I normally love this time of year so am very disappointed! ATB, Chris
Wharfdale is amazing, I love it up there. We had the same boggy ground on Sunday up on Stonesdale Moor.
I'm glad you confirmed it was up at Stonesdale Mark. I was trying to work out where it was and between Keld and Tan Hill was my best fit! 🙂

Hey Chris, great walk... arrgghh shame about the wet feet and boggy ground 🙈 glad you found a spot to pitch though 👌🏻
Hello Kerry. Yes, I've had to retire my boots! At least the weather has bucked up so I can walk in trainers over the summer. Best wishes, Chris

It was a pure chance find pal, but yes, a bit on the lumpy side. Thanks for watching and commenting. 🙂
