Stoicism differs from most existing schools in one important sense: its purpose is practical application. It is not a purely intellectual enterprise. It’s a tool we can use immediately to become better in our craft, better friends and better people.
    00:00 - Intro
00:50 - Remind yourself of all that you've endured
01:41 - Look for beauty in the ordinary
    02:49 - Be courageous
    03:21 - Be less reachable
04:06 - Ask yourself "is this essential?"
05:04 - Take your time to respond
05:54 - Take a second to zoom out
    07:08 - Ponder big ideas

I read your book 'The Obstacle Is The Way' each day, highlight passages, take notes, put tabs all through it. We're now in our second full lockdown here in NZ, and although I cannot change what has happened, I've sought to look for the opportunities it presents. I'm not worrying about what I can't change, only focusing on how I choose to respond. It is life-changing wisdom.

I found your channel and have become a daily stoic member a few years ago. In the absence of a father and a true male role model, I often found myself looking all over the place to find ways of being a good husband to my wife, doctor to my patients, son to my mother, friend to my friends and man to the world. I will never forget the day I came across stoicism, your channel and your books. Thanks for changing my life as I have finally found the path in life I've been looking for, after all these years.

I read your daily stoic email and daily calendar. Your work has helped me get through a the darkest time last year during the pandemic and have felt better with practice. Though I freely admit I am still struggling but not as intensely. Stoicism continues to help me with every aspect of my life. I am so grateful to you Ryan. Im going to look at your books next. I have books of two Stoics. Mediations, Marcus who I love best, and Discourses, Epictetus.
Also, 2 Greek philosophers, Plato, Socrates. Even Viktor Frankl. All read in college long ago. That said, all that knowledge accumulating dust, Im embarrassed.
It was YOU who inspired and motivated me to take another look at my books. This video rocks. My husband and I have watched a number of your videos. Matthew McConaughey’s interview was really good. Many blessings to you and your family and may you stay safe and healthy 🌺

I remember awakening; when I questioning why there is even existence; then, I realized I was part of the entire universe.
I was the same energy, the same essence & made of the substance from the beginning of time.
We are all one with everything and will transform back into everything. People, trees, squirrels; We are all but stardust; part of the eternal beauty & oneness of the universe.
It is all so magnificent; that I am humbled and honored to be a part of it all.

Ryan, thanks for changing my perspective with your books via Stoicism. I used to feel a lot of anxiety (and occasionally still do) when going to work and facing colleagues (due to potential steep authority gradients). It’s company culture (unfortunately). However, I’ve learnt to look at it from a different angle and no longer feel much anxiety; and look for what I can gain from such interactions. Thanks buddy

This is a quote from Conn Iggulden's '"Conqueror"', the 5th book from his Genghis Khan series. When Batu (khan) goes to see Genghis' legendary general Tsubodai to ask him for advice, Tsubodai says: "...We will all die. I will, you, Guyuk, everyone you have ever met. Others will walk over our graves and never know we laughed or loved, or hated each other. Do you think they will care if we did? No, they will have their own blind, short lives to live". And then he continues: "...There's a good chance there are bones in this valley, men and women who once thought they were important. Do we think of them? Do we share their fears and dreams? Of course not. They are nothing to the living and we don't even know their names..."

I so hope that doesn't sound weird or strange but I am nearly 60 and so wish I had come across a teacher like you when I was younger. My life would have been so much more fulfilled and productive. I am going to share your videos with my adult children who still have time to apply your teaching to their lives and do something amazing with it. Wishing you all the best...

I remember few years ago I had a problem which was weighing me down. Well, it was not actual problem yet but a possibility that there may be a problem. I went to a planetarium to see a show on a dome shaped screen. It started on the ground and then the camera started moving away from the ground, we went past the moon and other planets and soon we were so far away that I couldn't see our Earth anymore. Instinctively I understood that my problems are so small and do not matter. And I stopped worrying.

Most untested people believe to be courageous is to be "fearless". To be "fearless" is to be untested or mentally underdeveloped. Fear is a natural response, it's how you handle yourself in the presence of fear that defines courage or cowardice.

Why do something? Cause if you do nothing, if you don’t live by high standards, you’ll bring the average value of humans down, but if you become 1% better everyday, you’ll bring the average value of humans up, and you’ll probably influence others along the way.
