  • There's two basic ways to catch catfish, either fishing on anchor or drift fishing. Sure, there's lots of different variations of these techniques with different names but in the end you're either sitting still (anchored) or moving (drifting).
    If you're going to fish with your catfish boat on anchor and sitting still then learning how to anchor your catfish boat the right way is critical to your success. You'll catch a lot more catfish, spend a lot less time fighting your catfish gear and trying to keep your lines tight, and have much less frustration when you're out on the water.
    In this week's catfishing tip video Chad Ferguson from Catfish Edge walks you through everything you need to know to learn how to anchor your catfish boat in lakes and reservoirs. This anchoring technique will hold your boat perfectly still, allow you to place your boat exactly where you want over or near the catfish, and will keep your boat from moving with the wind.

    You might mention that rear anchoring in rivers with strong current is a bad idea. If the front anchor breaks loose your boat could swing around causing water to quickly come over the transom and sink the boat. You mentioned that this was for lakes but I saw a few people talking about trying it in a river so I thought id chime in.

      +Patrick Muehling Yes the article specifically mentions not to use two anchors in rivers and I've responded to people as such as well.

    Good info Brother. I put 3 to 4 times the depth of rope out the front and do the back line you do. How do you like the box anchors. I have a friend that makes them and his collapse for easy storage.

    Do you have issues with getting caught up on the back anchor line? I’d almost figure with catfish being known for diving and running under the boat if you ever have issues with them getting caught up in the anchor line

    Do this method only work while cat fishing? My bass boat spins around the anchor on the lake Need the tail end to stay put when I’m just laying back and bobber fishing.

    Good tip or most time we are fishing with a catfish buddy so have him toss the back anchor out then drive up a bit till the line is tight, then have him toss the front anchor out and float back down a bit while the front anchor line gets tighten up then readjust back anchor rope. saves from pulling the anchor line.

    • @Catfishedge
      @Catfishedge  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fighting wind you want to anchor the front first, especially solo. Anchoring the back first is a good way to get a prop foul

    I have the worst luck on catfishig and I try so hard, truth be told I can't catch a blue gill for bait. But on the bank I land good fish. On the boat whole fishing, I can't keep it from swaying back and forth to where your line tightens and goes loss depending on the wind. No luck on the boat and it sadings me cause I put so much it to this boat. Any help would be so helpful. I'm new to boating but I'm putting all effect I can into it. Litterly, I can catch a blue gill and I've caught huge fish from the banks. Just ready for my first big Kentucky catfish

    Flute anchors skip on the hard clay bottoms in Tawakoni. Flute anchors have worked for me in the silty bottom near the dam. Plows have worked in both locations. I really want to try the box anchor to see how it sets on clay bottoms. At fork the submerged timber is brutal.

    I feel like I've heard you say it before but, if I'm using a 19 lb box anchor at the front and it holds me steady would it be safe to say to do the to make her system I would be okay using a 13 or 14 lb box anchor at the back end or what I want to stick with two of the same size boxes? The 19 works overly well now but I do not want the back end of sway when anchoring and fishing as we all know.

    • @Catfishedge
      @Catfishedge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Catfishedge I'm surprised to hear you say that on catfish edge.com when looking at the part that you've typed up for anchoring and talkin about box anchors you clearly state that you couldn't use a smaller one at the back to prevent this way so I'm curious why you're going back on that quote?

    • @Catfishedge
      @Catfishedge  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +scott walton May not be the best option for anchoring in current. We use the same technique in our rivers but they're small with very little current. In heavy current anchoring both front and back can be a serious safety issue.

      @PLAYERSLAYER_22 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Catfish Edge yeah you are probably right, here the current is slow but powerful

    • @jamestruitt3393

      Get a bucket(with 1"holes drilled to allow water to flow through it), or drift sock and tie it off the back of the boat about 5". The current will pull the sock and help a lot with keeping the swaying out from side to side. I used it a lot on the Cumberland river in TN.

    Mickey Mouse box anchors with tiny chain and a short rode-typical catfish guy. You all need to research boat anchoring and rethink this. Why the hell use this junk when all you usually need for this little boat would be a 7 lb fluke, 4 ft of proper chain and a minimum 7:1 rode. I use 200-300 ft of 3/8 nylon all the time and no it is not difficult to keep organized in a neat pile. Picking up two (2!) of these crappy box anchors is much worse and frankly dumb especially anchoring the stern. Some day you may lose your front anchor hold and swing on that back anchor. Then you’re in big trouble. For anyone who thinks I’m wrong, please consult the coast guard-you’ll see their recommendations for anchoring and you’ll find it easier than this mess....

    In a lake ok. But DO NOT USE two anchors in any kind of current. Front one comes loose and next thing you know you have a boat tied off to only the back. Next thing you know there’s water filling the cockpit over the transom or worse.

    NOT GOOD ADVICE! I would just recommend never using two anchors. All it takes is one big boat wake to swamp you out.

    • @Catfishedge
      @Catfishedge  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is 100% spot on advice. If you’re getting swamped by boat wakes because you’re using two anchors you have bigger problems than your anchor.
