    Thank you.
    Yeah I'd have to be careful to test the pocket clip tension... but I can kind of tell how strong it will be due to how thin the metal is and how much it flexes when lifted. I am still working out the finer details of this new system.

      X4CTO The RAT is one very fast and smooth opener. I'd have given it the smiley on the deployment category. :-) The other big factor is that the RAT at half the price still won out. Definitely value for money there.

      old video, old comment, but even 2019 i agree, its the most straight forward and precise review of the two.. in fact its the first video that shows liner thickness side by side.. i always thought the tenacious was thicker.. nope, theyre the same in that respect.. and now with a D2 version out.. rat 1 all the way

    @X4CTO Its been a few days since I recieved my tenacious, and I love it. The feel is great, they deployment is great and im getting better at flicking it. It is sharp, my cuts can attest to that. I have only had two problems, one of them is about everytime I wake up, or leave it for a long time and pick it up again, I see these minoot spots on the blade. I don't know if it is rust but it looks like it. They seem to wipe off easily but has this happened to you? or is my house just humid?

    I am a huge Spyderco fan, and own many including a Tenacious. I adore my Rat 1! Currently a Tenacious sells for $45 and Rat 1 goes for $25. At those prices Rat all day. If Ontario would make a Rat in g10 scales, and milled out those liners to get down to 4.5 oz.... It would DOMINATE the Tenacious. Deployment wise my Rat is silky smooth, and I get it out faster. Biggest beef with Tenacious is that the sharpened edge goes all the way to the handle, which makes for some scary moments when closing.

    I agree... I do wish the scales on the Rats were G10, but I still love it.
    I love the Tenacious too, both excellent blades for what you pay for them, it's a hard choice for sure.
    I actually find the Tenacious (and family) all sharpen a bit easier than the Rats though. I have all of the Tenacious family, lol... except for the Persistence.
    You're welcome, and thank you for watching it.

    Good review. I have both and love them. The main advantage I see, in the Tenacious, is the spine. It is a very sharp 90º and strikes a ferro rod effortlessly, showering HUGE sparks. The spine, on the Rat 1 is a bit softer, but still works for fire starting.

  • @sanfranciscobay
    @sanfranciscobay 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I own both. I like the looks of the blade better on the Rat 1. I like the liner lock release on the Tenacious because it is about 1/4" deep and has a longer serrated lock release compared to the Rat 1 which is about 1/8" deep. I cannot flick open my Tenacious, and I loosened the axis lock on my Rat 1 and I can flick it open easily and fast when you do it just right. With cold and wet hands, the Tenacious is probably easier to open with the large thumb hole and close with the deeper lock release. I think both are potentially slippery and could have a rougher texture. You can now order the Rat 1 with spring assist. Price, Tenacious $38, Rat 1 manual $28 and $44 spring assist on Amazon delivered.

    The Tenacious is a clear winner in blade shape. Good belly and for self defense your tip is on center line. And btw i found the Tenacious to be sharper. And pocket clip is better on the Rat 1 because it doesn't shine so much.

  • @X4CTO
    @X4CTO  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah I wish it was a little more "sticky" like on my Police and Endura G-10... but I do like it better than the FRN on the Rat 1.

    I received an Ontario RAT 1 yesterday after ordering one and I was quite surprised at the robustness of the knife in general. Haven't had the chance to try out a Spyderco , but I will have to see for myself. Enjoying your videos very much. Glad I made the purchase for 25 bucks, I believe it should be worth way more considering the quality of the knife in its entirety which is absolutely superb.The lock up is tight and I dig the open pillar construction. Makes it way easier to clean .If I could recommend a blade you don't have yet, it would be the Ontario Utilitac 2. Runs at about 23 dollars right now on Amazon. Slightly smaller in terms of handle and blade length but, the quality is just as good as the RAT 1. Thanks again for the videos.

    I agree with you about the spine of the Rat 1... very abrasive... I actually smoothed mine down because of that. I do like the G-10 better honestly... but man I love how my Rat 1 flicks open. I think either one is a great knife. I do have a tendency to lean more toward Spyderco usually though. I do prefer thumb holes to studs too. You make very good points which are hard to fault... I should have at least tied them I guess, haha.

    I also have to add that I am a Spyderco fan boy and in my small collection of knives the Rat 1 is one of the very few pocket knives that can stand with the Spydercos when talking price point. Rat 1 is just a very special knife, it's strong and has a blade that screams hunting, fishing, camping and bushcraft. It is too heavy for me as an EDC but it's my go to camp knife.

    I own both, the Rat 1 spends every day in the shoebox with the rest of my knives, and the Tenacious spends every day in my pocket. I find the Rat 1 to be tricky to open. If the Tenacious came in VG-10 or higher, it would be the only knife I own.

    It all comes down to "philosophy of use" for me.
    Rat 1 = Hunting, Fishing, Camping and comfortable heavy work knife.
    Tenacious = EDC
    Blunt Truth has a video where the comfort of the tenacious fails as it was hurting him though glove, this would never happen on the rat 1.
    I also watched another guy field dress a deer with the rat 1 which was extremely impressive... but with that said I think the tenacious is cooler and more practical as an edc.
    If I had to have only one, I'd go Rat 1.

    I like them both, but tend to lean more toward a thumbhole usually. Yeah the Rat 1 is definitely a quick deploying knife the more you work with it... pornstars legs indeed, lol.

    tenacious comes in black, blue, green, and fde in satin or black blade with options of semi serrations or full smooth a total of 10 options... smh. also I own both and i feel for us fattybobattys the tenacious with a slimmer profiles makes pulling out (the knife :) easier. the rat seems to deploy faster for me but hands down the tenacious wins. the rat is great but I feel you get more edge and a "cool" factor with the tenacious. either one is a winner.

      Absolutely it does, but the only color available back years ago when I made this video there was only the black Tenacious available.

    Haha, I gotta have some boobies somewhere in my video ya know!
    I love the Rat1, it's definitely a great looking blade. I don't think the Tenacious looks bad, but I do prefer the Endura look a lot more.
