I remember I was a junior in high school and going through a "rough breakup" when this song came out. Listening to this brings back every memory of all that surrounded what this song meant to me back then. Bittersweet.

    • @ace-x6m
      @ace-x6m 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

The year has no effect on how it sounds. If it sounded good in 04 it should sound good now regardless. If you are true to your personality back then and still are the same person it shouldn't change unless you follow crowds that determine what they think is "cool" for you. This sounds just as good if not better now as it did back then to me.

    Sidewalks
    Story Of The Year
    The bridge is all crumbled.
    The water soaks into rocks
That fell at the bottom of the road (At the end of the town.)
The town that we lived in.
The memories shaken apart from the weeds that grow
    Over the sidewalks,
Running away from the streets we knew,
    Sidewalks,
Like the time we thought was made for you.
    Or
    Out on the front porch,
Watching the cars as they go by
    (Eighteen blue, twenty one grey)
Looking ahead for the first time that we could drive,
    Out on our own,
    To speed away
    From the sidewalks,
Running away from the streets we knew,
    Sidewalks,
Like the time we thought was made for you.
    Or
All of the days have passed us by,
All of the sun is gone away.
    Sidewalks,
Running away from the streets we knew,
    Sidewalks,
Running away from the streets we knew,
    Sidewalks,
Like the time we thought was made for you.
    (Sidewalks)
    The bridges are crumpled,
    (Sidewalks)
    The water soaks into rocks,
That fell at the bottom of the road
    :)

TO EVERYONE TRYING TO FIGURE THIS VIDEO OUT: I think the connection is that our lives were so simple and untainted when we walked on the sidewalks, the places our parents and others controlled us and kept us, but when we could drive out, away from the streets we knew, we could explore and define ourselves. This dude I guess has an affair, which is probably not what he grew up on, and he's pretty much leaving what he knew and what he has now is different, he wishes he could go back to the place where it was simple, the sidewalks.... That's just an idea of how it relates, but if it doesn't then it doesn't matter, just an idea.

    • @thelaw8042

I think it was more about the destruction of relationships (the crumbled bridge and "sidewalks! running away from the streets we knew")and how naive we are in a happy one ("sidewalks! like the time we thought was made for you") and how our memories get tainted over time. (the weeds growing)
The bridge represents the relationship and the sidewalks represent the pathway to the person. Running away from "the streets we knew" is running away from that person and as time passes we reminisce about our past with that person and how we thought we were made for each other, but those memories slowly get tainted represented by weeds growing.

    • @thelaw8042

Even in the hip hop circle in high school (2004-2007) i couldnt help but gravitate directly towards the brand new to me, emo / scene / punk / goth circles..we called then the rockers, didnt no genre shit yet..but those loners, black sheep kids who sat alone, i ALWAYS sat with em n befriended em.
They were exactly like me on the inside but i had that hip hop image to cover my personality completely.
Seein them today, theyre still so friendly towards me, i had a soft spot for the weak, broken and bullied kids, those were my targets to make popular which in time they actually did make mad friends, lil timmy mad popular wit the hottest girls, brian won American Idol..i screamed Make Damn Sure and But Its Better If You Do by Panic on release with a buncha rock kids in an open crib😎some the bes days of my teen years

Is it just me or does something that is supposed to bring back so much nostalgia just remind you of how depressed you used to be and I guess how much you are still holding on to you thought you got over.
