Do you know what's worth fighting for, When it's not worth dying for? Does it take your breath away And you feel yourself suffocating? Does the pain weigh out the pride? And you look for a place to hide? Did someone break your heart inside? You're in ruins One, 21 guns Lay down your arms Give up the fight One, 21 guns Throw up your arms into the sky, You and I When you're at the end of the road And you lost all sense of control And you're thoughts have taken their toll When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul Your faith walks on broken glass And the hangover doesn't pass Nothing's ever built to last you're in ruins One, 21 guns Lay down your arms Give up the fight One, 21 guns Throw up your arms into the sky, You and I Did you try to live on your own When you burned down the house and home? Did you stand too close to the fire? When I was around eight, my cousin gave me her old phone after she bought a new one. I remember finding this song on it and I absolutely loved it. Had it on repeat all the time. But when the phone broke, I had no memory of the song title, since I didn't really know English that time. I've been trying to find this song since then, but without success. Today, years after, it showed up in my recommendatios and I couldn't help, but cry listening to it.
Thanks you guys for building a lot of great memories as I went after my divorce. 2009? I was 48, felt like I was 20. My son was only 7. He loves your music. He's 21 now... and acting like he's 14. Great memories! Thanks again guys!
My 7th grade history teacher, Mr. K., played music at the beginning of every class. Nearly 10 years later I still remember him playing this song. He was the most chill, supportive teacher I've ever had. That summer, he tragically passed away in a car accident. They later played this song at his memorial service.

I can’t explain the feeling I get when I hear this song. It’s such a happy/sad feeling. Life was really simple back then, no worries, no depression, just school, being with friends, good summer times, good music, just being younger- happiness. The nostalgia is so real I know I can’t be the only one.
These lyrics took me away from wanting to be in the military along with a lot of everything but this got me to start questioning what I wanted to do. And, that is music. Thank you Green Day I love you all and this is my favorite song of all time, it’s beautiful.

I was 12 when this got released. This song was always blasted by my neighbour almost every day. Now, I can't get this song out of my head and that isn't a bad thing. This song is really nostalgic for me since when we used to play outside during sun set and at night time, this song gets blasted and it reminds me of those memories I had enjoyed with my friends. Good times and a memory I won't forget. Time is nigh, we shall enjoy it to the fullest.

Billie Joe Armstrong is a survivor, a fighter, a rebel, a hero, a genius, a hall of famer and an accomplished and talented and amazing musician. Thank you Billie Joe! Thank you Green Day! Loved you in Pittsburgh and San Diego on your saviors tour! We drove cross country from New York to California to see your last show of the saviors tour in San Diego and had the time of our lives. We did a 28 day road trip from NY to California and back to NY and you were part of it! We love you! ❤ E. Iannielli
I love early 2000 rock. So many hidden messages on politics, on society and psychology .... We don't realize it but we are going through the same kind of events... The vibe is here.

I remember when I was a kid, everytime my dad and his friends get drunk they would always sing this song on a karaoke. They would sometimes mess up some words but they still kept on singing, my father introduced this song to me and I come back to listen to it once in a while
When I turned 10 I suffered from extreme bipolar and anxiety and whenever I had a anixty attack at school, I would leave the classroom get a mp3 and turn this song on. I thought it was meant for me representing my extreme anxiety. I always was suicidal and even then I would turn green day on and just sit down singing along to the lyrics. Thank you Billie Joe
How did I find Green Day so late.... Well, I heard about them about 3-4 years ago. I didn't start listening until now, and they are great. Billie's voice
I heard their songs in the radio, but never thought much of it (I didn't even know the songs were from them, it's still always a surprise when I listen to a song that I thought I didn't know, but I actually know it xD) and I started looking them up three days ago. Now I'm literally in love with Green Day and their songs:D
I remember when I was in 5th grade, one of my classmate/friend, who is already in heaven right now, said "this song is my ultimate favorite song." I always listening this song because of you buddy🤚😊. Thank you for being part of my childhood life 🫂🫂.
They played this song 4 times in Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, the first time was during the scene when Sam is packing for college while talking to Mikaela on the phone, the second time is when Sam meets Leo, the third time is when Mikaela tries to video call Sam, and the fourth time is during the end credits after New Divide is played
this video explains a lot about depression and suicide, the beginning is about your scared and worried, the middle is you don't care, the end is there's one thing that keeps you stable, the example in the video is this girls boyfriend or crush, for some its video games, for others it driving, its the ONE thing that keeps you stable
Everybody has the right to interpretation. Whether or not the writer intended it to be about depression, PTSD, or something else, doesn't mean that it has to be whatever intended.
+insaneisaac Ik it actually is about that. At least that's what I think. I hate people like this who say it IS about depression. Like damn emos amirite xD
+dontlookatender true for me its driving that keep me stable but sadly i lost my car 4months ago and couldnt buy any so hard to keep stable whitout that
2009, when we were in high school, I remember being with my cousin (best friend) sitting on the ground on the sidewalk. A girl had broken his heart, so there we were listening to this song, that day I found out that my crush was dating someone else, so there we were trying not to cry. We hardly speak anymore, when I listen to this song I want to go back to that time when everything was easier. Our teenage days had the best soundtrack.
Different people with different thoughts, some here because they got recommended, some here for the first time, some here because their favourite artist listens to this song and some just to relive their memories they had attached to this song.
+Michael Mitchell the words 'do you know whats worth fighting for, when its not worth dying for ?' its the words that come into my mind when i fail at something
This feels soul crushing, really worth it. Green Day is an example of how you can sound so diverse with limited resource of only 4 different groups of instruments when you expand with scales, pedals (tremo, leslie, autowah, acoustics, percussive riffs, power chord chugs, fingerstyles
I will never forget seeing this tour back in 2009. One of my favorite parts of the concert was the part at 3:17 when the solo starts. They had this video playing in the background and the whole thing was just so mesmerizing. I will always cherish special concert moments like that. 🖤🖤🖤
lol i was born in early 2002 so i dont remember everything about green day and im sad that i couldnt enjoy them while they were still together :( still great music tho
I'm 16 and have loved this song since I was ten. I'm a really cheesy, romantic person, so it always struck everyone that I liked Green Day. It's one of my favorite bands and I've now come back to this song when writing each part's score for my junior high talent show. Me and my friends are gonna love playing this
Me too!! Considering I listen to "if you're going to San Francisco" and "Telephone Line", we can ALMOST say I listen to this song every day lollll what a bunch of posers
I know right? I heard this song in my 7th Grade, and Still can't comprehend that I'm in College listening to it again. Time flies like Nobody's business.
i'm born 2004. grew up with a dad with very good music taste. today amlost all the friends i have likes the same kind of music as me and i am happy that my dad passed down this good kind of music to me.
I was 11 when this song came out. I just turned 24. I have a vivid memory from when I was about 7 years old of being in my bedroom about to go to sleep and my dad gave me the American Idiot album saved on an mp3 player to listen to. That memory will always have a special place in my heart and I have loved Green Day ever since. They just seem to always fit in any period of my life whether its a happy or sad time. In 3 weeks, I will finally watch them live for the first time in my life. I will never stop listening to Green Day!
I was 15 years old when this song came out. I was already obsessed with Green Day since my 12/13 years old. I am having the same feeling as you, since I think one year later of the release of this song the came to Brazil but I was too young to travel to Sao Paulo to see them. Now I can't believe I am going to see them live after 15 years. It's more than a dream coming true.
@@crackedmyipad2122 The best concert of my life. I loved every minute. It was amazing. I got emotional during time of your life to be honest, what a fucking band.
What a beautiful fucking album, I love the variety of rhythms it handles, I love how this specific song has some moments with tremendous calm and then something a little more lively
This is why i found this song because it's been 8 years passed since i started to find this song and i found this song because of the phineas video singing this song i just saw on facebook
The year is 2010. I was sitting in the school gym. We were having an assembly and at the end of the assembly some guys walk in. One with drum sticks in his hands one with a guitar and they just walk on to the stage in the gym. The rest of the band is sitting on the stage. Then they played this song. I was 8 years old. I'm 16 now and Everytime I listen to this song I think of that day when green day performed at our school. Oh how the good ol' days are behind us. If I could I was go back in time just to watch that performance one more time.
hey everbody productions haha well you can't control what people say to you but you control who you get to talk too:) I'd say look up Jordan Peterson (12 rules for life) if your feeling abit out of control he's helping thousands right now.
I grew up with this song and greenday as a whole. Now listening to it for some reason it makes me think about my life ahead. how we are all gonna grow old and hear this song and then blast back to the good days lol.
2019: Me and my father is riding on a bus on our way to our home... When i was about to fall asleep, he removed his headphones and put it on my ears so i can fall asleep peacefully because my dad knows i love this song That has got to be the most best memory of me with my father, im about to turn 17 in 2 months thank you so much for the memories...

Do you know what's worth fighting for,
When it's not worth dying for?
Does it take your breath away
And you feel yourself suffocating?
Does the pain weigh out the pride?
And you look for a place to hide?
Did someone break your heart inside?
You're in ruins
One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky,
You and I
When you're at the end of the road
And you lost all sense of control
And you're thoughts have taken their toll
When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul
Your faith walks on broken glass
And the hangover doesn't pass
Nothing's ever built to last
you're in ruins

Give up the fight

Now they can't talk bout politics any more 🤐
the chainsmokers' sick boy has many meanings and messages of those kind. There are so many fan theories about their music

Lyrics:
Do you know what's worth fighting for
When it's not worth dying for?
Does it take your breath away
And you feel yourself suffocating
Does the pain weigh out the pride?
And you look for a place to hide
Did someone break your heart inside
You're in ruins
One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky,
You and I
When you're at the end of the road
And you lost all sense of control
And your thoughts have taken their toll
When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul
Your faith walks on broken glass
And the hangover doesn't pass
Nothing's ever built to last
You're in ruins
One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky,
You and I
Did you try to live on your own
When you burned down the house and home
Did you stand too close to the fire?
Like a liar looking for
Forgiveness from a stone
When it's time to live and let die
And you can't get another try
Something inside this heart has died
You're in ruins
One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky
One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky,
You and I.....

I thought it was meant for me representing my extreme anxiety. I always was suicidal and even then I would turn green day on and just sit down singing along to the lyrics. Thank you Billie Joe

+dontlookatender It has nothing to do with that. This song is about veterans sufering from PTSD.
ptsd can also lead to depression and suicidal thoughts

This feels soul crushing, really worth it. Green Day is an example of how you can sound so diverse with limited resource of only 4 different groups of instruments when you expand with scales, pedals (tremo, leslie, autowah, acoustics, percussive riffs, power chord chugs, fingerstyles
