Actually, economic esearch (research, not anecdotes or claims) points at modest minimum wage increases having negligible effects on employment. There are studies pointing at positive and negative effects, but they tend to be inferior methodologically and/or much smaller than the ones which point at negligible effect.
Economic science - even its basics - has a simple explanationf or why an increase in wages often doesn't reduce employment: The employees were underpaid compared to their productivity or their productivity is not measurable (such as gate guards at an oil refinery, for example). They were underpaid because of a power asymmetry between employer and employee which forces to potetnial employees into a race to the bottom. After all, the labour market isn't cleared.
Health insurance being mandatory is meant to defeat the economic problem of "adverse selection" that inherits msot insurances. It's particulalry troublesome for health insurances, and someone who doesn't understand "adverse selection" is incompetent in regard to policymaking about health insurances.
Many right wingers who sounds crazy at times (Huckabee, O'Reilly, Norquist etc.) can and do turn 'intelligent' when they're talking with the likes of Maher, Stewart. It's a selective exposure of their opinions, and in part an act.
Gotta respect Huckabee for having a sense of humor.

He's got a good point on small towns vs. big cities. I was raised in a farm town with a population of 85 people. I lived in California for awhile, and while the people weren't usually rude or overly crass, you didn't feel the same genuinely empathetic response that you feel 'back home.'

Never thought I'd see this. They almost seem to be friends! It's awesome I love it! Wish there would be interviews like this. But it's also a great interview because they are two good people to be interviewed (or in bills case do interviewing). I mean bill is hilarious and though I don't agree with him he's very sharp. Mike is brilliant politically and a down-to-earth and sensible guy. I love the honesty between the two.

Rulluan Dot i know this verse. where does it say "for the protection of yourself and your loved ones", you seem to have added that part. this is one of those hypocritical things that show that christianity is violent and not this "religion of peace and love" that people always say it is. this also contradicts jesus' other statements such as: "put your sword back in its place, for all who live by the sword die by the sword" and "but i tell you, do not resist an evil person. if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also."
so you have some one verse saying "if you're attacked or hurt, let it go". then another verse saying to "buy a weapon in case you're attacked, so you can attack back."
these are contradictory verses, just like the bible is full of.

Governor Huckabee has a proven record of getting the job done in Arkansas, was voted as one of the 5 best governors in the US and is a man of integrity, wit and charm. He can get along with anyone and find common ground. THAT is the kind of president we need.

The fact that Mike is referring to America's "heartland" as "often called flyover country", who is he hanging out with? I'm born, raised, & happily live in the Northeast and have never heard "the middle" referred to as "flyover" part of the country shows how out of touch he is. Shouldn't the popularity of country music tell him the South, the Midwest of this country are celebrated, not thought of as being moral or intellectual people but ones that can create a snappy tune none the less. He does good work for Wounded Warriors but he's too emotional to be President.

Bill Maher will tell you he dislikes "religion". But he overlooks the uniqueness of Christianity in that it is more about relationship. Religion doesn't bring me to church, a relationship with God through Jesus Christ does. He obviously had a very bad experience with the Catholic Church growing up and therefore hates religion. I would encourage him to seek relationship instead.

Watching made me almost want to believe that Huckabee is a reasonable Republican...but he's not. And as a working class woman, I just can't get behind him. I don't really care what his roots are.
Social media is a public space. A public space should be a civil space. If you want to engage in coarse language or hate speech then build or go to social media sites with the appropriate user policies, security and privacy protocols that make them common space or private space entities. Twitter, TH-cam and Facebook are not privately manage by the consumer nor are they crafted as common spaces for discourse of a particular social group. When you sign up for an account you sign a user policy that puts restraints on your free speech, and for appropriate reasons. If you want to say anything take it to Reddit or make your own Tumbler blog.
I wouldn't vote for Huckabee even if I could (I'm not an American and I don't live in the US), but I have to admit he seems a lot more enjoyable as a person than most conservatives I've ever seen. Still, I wouldn't vote for him.

Jeez he has put on again. I am so disappointed. I am a liberal and even though Mike is a conservative, I was happy with his 100 lb weight loss and thought he will now set an example to millions of Americans struggling with weight but I am sad to see him become obese again.
