He also studied it along to the cello.
Nevertheless, its still depressing for those who only play a melody instrument.

Quite a personality, combining impresario self-assurance, and a type of otherworldly sweetness and detached humility.

What he said at 7:30 is exactly what every other cello players do, including YoYoMa. I'm glad to hear from Rostropovich himself the same conclusión I made. Why do they try to alter the rythm and the cadence of the piece? If you hear Rostropovitch's interpretation, it's full of dynamism, modulation and dynamics, but the cadence is pretty steady. Is a thing of beauty.

Yo-Yo Ma does not play that way, at least in the prelude. However, the rhythmic distortions ARE very prominent among all Bach musicians but it is not usually to emphasize a melody that dose not exist, rather I would say it is usually because these players have technical difficulties or a need to maximize tone production by lingering on a note more than they need to. By doing so, the clarity of the music is compromised.

I agree. simply; procastinating is romantic/dramatizing and hiting the tempo is dynamic/joyful. This piece is so beautiful that i think most cellists (yes including Yo Yo Ma) understands it, as a romantic, lovely beauty and they do that swinging motion. i find those long first notes very interrupting. The first time i heard rostropovich plays this piece with cello, i thought 'whats the rush'. But then i understood that this is young, joyful, energytic, very morning, very spring lets say.. Now its my favorite interpretation.

Bach lives! My brother once named his orange tabby cat Fugue! She liked to walk across our piano keys, creating her own songs! She also chirped her own cat songs!

Nunca me deleitei tanto com alguém falando e tocando música. Se deus existisse.... não seria muito mais que isto...
    It´s raining.
But it´s time to get ready and go to the church and start playing... como começar melhor do que isto uma interpretação... ele toca e a imagem não some. indelével, seca.

"Bach's works are written with a concept of beauty, clean textures and tonal coloring. I don`t like them made tragic by trying to emphasize a non-existent melody. It`s a silly idea. Bach himself could have composed an infinitely more beautiful melody, if he'd needed it." - Rostropovich, at 07:17

Interesante análisis. La música d Bach es ta hermosa, pues intenta imitar los canones o leyes que rigen la Naturaleza
