How interesting and exciting - to have been friends with such a great artist - how on earth can anyone have been lucky to that extent! Did you also know David Oistrakh? I believe that the last music he listened to on the night he died, possibly was Brahms double concerto, perhaps the one played together with Mstislav Rostropovich and conducted by Kirill Kondrashin. David Oistrakh, King of Violinists - in my opinion: greatest of the greats of all times - and Mstislav Rostropovich likewise among cellists.
He was such a massively impressive person. Even his command of language made in clear how brilliant he was. In the interview he keeps switching between Russian, German, French, and English seemingly without even thinking about it. Subconscious code-switching like that is, I think, indicative of a very high intelligence. What an amazing musician, and an amazing human being.
+Edward Ashton You noticed the fact which so much impressed me too, and i couldn't imagine that people are capable to speak in a similar way. Magnificent man, very animates.
Но я не говорю по-русски очень хорошо, so I have to go back to my mother tongue. I hope I can learn to speak Russian someday, though.
We lost a great motivator for beautiful music. His wife wrote a fantastic book. She was also fantastic. The time is over. Classical music has no future anymore.
I decided not to go to his Shostakovich Symphony No. 13 concert in San Francisco many years ago. My mistake. Even though I wasn't all that enamored of the 13th, I truly believe now that it would have been sufficient simply to watch the master at work in person. My loss.

Probably
The more I know about Maestro Rostropovich the more impressed I am. Absolutely fantastic human being.
Fantastic documentary. Rostropovich has always been my idol. No cellist ever like him. What an incredible genius !!!!
Great to hear from Shostakovich and Penderecki.

The time is over. Classical music has no future anymore.
arjens0 There are still many great players in the classical world, so I don't think classical music will end any time soon.
The problem is not the good musicians but the public!
People will always need great music. We merely await someone who can touch the general public in the same way as this man. It will happen again.
@@VesiustheBoneCruncher I agree but the public has changed!
Great documentary. Throughfully enjoyed it.
