    The biggest compliment and best way I can describe this movie for me personally is that I went in with tempered expectations. I walked in hoping I would enjoy it but thinking I would leave feeling empty and wishing it was Chadwick.
    But this movie did what I thought was impossible - it somehow found a way to give the fans closure right along with the characters while also giving us hope for the future. The growth, emotions, and story arcs the characters (like Shuri, Ramonda, Okoye, and M'Baku) went through were impressive the entire way through.

    I completely disagree about the action - the Narmor vs Shuri fight is way way better than the first film's climactic fight in my opinion. Also loved the Talokan assault on Wakanda. The first film doesn't have much outside if the tracking shot fight for me.

    • @alexlyster3459
      @alexlyster3459 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh agreed. The boat part of the battle felt a little bit like the first film's finale though still better. But the fight between Shuri and Namor was 1000% better than Tchalla VS Killmonger

      going from the nerdy comic-relief little sister in the first film to who she is and where she goes in this film is incredible. she really stepped up to the challenge. they all did, tbh.

    Fun fact! Vasquez from Aliens was one of my role models growing up. I was devastated to learn she was a white woman in brown face, but after struggling with it for years I've decided I still love the character, and as fucked as it was I'm happy things are better now. Tenoch Huerta as Namor is an amazing example of the progress made and I'm really happy with him.

    • @alexlyster3459
      @alexlyster3459 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, ultimately the character isn't a white woman in brown face. That's just how the production filmed the movie. The Character was exactly what you thought of them.

    My ranking is more with Tim on this one. The handful of scenes dealing with loss and grief were great, but the A-Plot conflict motivation doesn't hold up to any scrutiny, and CGI/effects were below average.

  • @teddyholiday8038

    M'Baku was NOT joking. SHuri does NOT want to be Queen of Wakanda, she just wants to be the Black Panther. M'Baku is the new king, and Shuri is the new protector

  • @TheRealGarate
    @TheRealGarate ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Nick was right #Gregsux lol
    Sidenote: I would've accepted anything because Chadwick died in real life, but I think its better that the illness was "undisclosed" because with the things Shuri does in BP1 for Ross, then what they do for Bucky in between films, and then what they attempted to do for Vision in IW, it doesnt seem like cancer would be a big deal in Wakandan society.

    I've said it before and I'll say it again: there needs to be a rehashing of the ranking list. I know they've rewatched things but the fact that Loki and Wandavision are in the top ten and Iron man is 16th is BONKERS. I'm not a huge fan of GOTG but even I agree that they are better than Loki and Wandvision.

    The best decision they made was shooting all the underwater scenes actually under water. They were joking on the junkies about how many minutes they could hold their breath, and when you see the underwater scenes it shows how real it is. Namor deserves an Oscar for actually delivering that speech under water (I guess he mimics the speech and then records it later, but man it looks 100% real). This is way better than Aquaman, when everything looked like a videogame and weightless. Here you can feel the weight on the water on the clothing and hair and skin.

    • @NF_Redux
      @NF_Redux ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Saw it twice this weekend. I think the film is an absolutely stunning story about grief, and the universal pain we all experience. It’s a movie that dares to be more than just a Mickey Mouse product, something I wish Marvel would strive for more.
    There’s a level of sincerity and heart displayed here that harkens back to what Stan Lee said the comics were all about: human stories.
    Ryan Coogler continues to do what he does best: make absolute bangers. It has its flaws like any other movie, but the story and performances truly carries it to high heights for me.

      This is actually why I enjoyed a lot of phase four it seems more then most. Grief and different ways of dealing with it have been a prevalent theme for our “sequel” characters. Between Spiderman with his actions in far from home and choices in no way home, Wanda’s arc in wanadvision leading to her turn and wakanada forever

    • @AlexLove631
      @AlexLove631 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AngelusX92 I agree! I think phase 4 has allowed a lot of mature storytelling dealing with serious stuff. Some of the projects get carried down by other aspects, but a lot of the stuff that works works really well.
      I think of Sebastian Stan’s beautifully acted scene in Falcon and The Winter Soldier when he’s in Wakanda and the Dora Milaje officer is trying to activate The Winter Soldier and then Bucky realizes he’s finally free.

  • @NF_Redux
    @NF_Redux ปีที่แล้ว +4

    this was a beautiful film, even if i coulda done without the whole CIA sub-plot, where they coulda used that time to flesh out some of the new characters a little more, but the themes of processing grief, the choices we make when we're broken & whether or not we give in to fear or vengeance makes this movie a wonderful addition to the MCU. i miss Chadwick's T'Challa, and i love the story they're telling in his absense.

    While I enjoyed the movie, the only thing that is preventing me from loving it is that it feels like there's an entire subplot missing from the movie. Guessing it was cut for time, but I felt like the whole CIA subplot with Martin Freeman and Julia-Louie Dreyfus should have played a bigger role in inciting the conflict between Wakanda and Talokan. Like the CIA should have been planted more seeds that caused more tension between the two nations that justified why things escalated so quickly. To me, that would have made Ross's inclusion in the movie make more sense and make Namor's aggressive actions later in the movie more justified.

    Shuri didnt take the hearth-shaped herb to take up the mantel at the beggining: she knew that the people were going to go for it because they needed a protector, but Shuri took it at first because she wanted to kill Namor herself, she was never giving it to someone else. Only afterwards she took into hetself the real meaning of being Wakanda's protector and the legacy of T'challa, that's why it even looks like someone else will be king

    You could call this God of War Ragnarok: The Movie. It's a 2022 sequel to a 2018 original that I loved, though not as much as the first one. The story, while having some undeniably fantastic moments, is kind of sloppily put together and overly long. It introduces some new characters that the story spends entirely too long with. But overall still a great product.

    I love every performance in this movie and everything it has to say about grief and loss. That being said, Namor's motivation, and by extension most of the reasoning for the plot really don't work for me.
    He wants to kill Riri for being a gifted scientist rather than the people who stole her work and are misusing it. He perceives undersea mining as an open threat despite the fact that no one knows there are people down there, so he murders a ship full of Americans (which Wakanda completely forgives, mind you)
    He assaults and kidnaps the royalty of their only potential ally, and then kills their queen. Then, when he completely fails his invasion on multiple fronts, he is shoved back into the ocean and assures his people "trust me, the Wakandans will DEFINITELY be our friends when the time comes" Like... no? They definitely don't care for you my guy

    • @Orson_Welp
      @Orson_Welp ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @William Tatum
      1. Killmonger had his father murdered by a foreign power and then grew up in 90's Oakland watching his people get murdered in the streets his whole life ("Everybody dies - it's just life around here"). He then spends an entire military career trying to become strong enough to return to his ancestral home and (in his mind) save his people.
      Namor saw awful things happen once to people he doesn't even know while on a day trip, got mad and f*cked off into the ocean to be king, selfishly isolating himself and helping no one in need
      2. Shuri knew Riri didn't give her device to the government by the time she was kidnapped. We can assume she told Namor because if not, that's a BIG oversight. Regardless, Namor should know that killing Riri doesn't change the fact that the machine can be made without her now. The R&D phase is done, they are producing these things. Killing Riri would be a vengeance play if anything
      3. Kidnapping a foreign dignitary, attempting to kill their security, and ACTUALLY killing their royalty is a war crime of the highest degree, regardless of intent. I don't care what conversations they had; the people of Wakanda would be LIVID
      4. Wakanda not caring about Talokan killing Americans would be normal. They are historically neutral. Actively hiding and protecting them is an act of war

  • @igweugo
    @igweugo ปีที่แล้ว

    They were able to get up because they ingested the Talokan plant drawn from their vibranium.
    They got killed because, similarly to how Shuri uses sonic stabilizers to make vibranium inert for high speed transport, the sonic weapon overcame whatever protection drawn from having the active vibranium in one's system

  • @MelodicQuest
    @MelodicQuest ปีที่แล้ว

    There an interesting thread plays out in the background. Someone mentions that Wakanda needed to be cautious because they never had to deal with an entire nation that also had Vibranium. How does Wakanda deal with the fact that they are not the strongest nation in the world anymore? That's a good storyline for future projects.

    • @igweugo
      @igweugo ปีที่แล้ว

      Who said that they're not the strongest?
      Having an entire nation if Vibranium -enfused people is definitely a problem, but Wakanda's best warriors can still fight to near even terms against Talokan's best, and Shuri, in figuring out how to better carry Vibranium from their own minds, has already figured out the sonic weapons that make Vibranium beings vulnerable.
      Ear plugs negate the syrens, and you now know that being on land without the breather is a short term thing... it's not as lopsided as you may think

Namor had a plan and explained WHY he left at the end because he knew that having wakanda be the one to eventually have to come to them for help will give him the upper hand. The turn for shuri was a little sudden and convenient imo to spare him but I understood why she did.

      @@aoe41015 no im not talking about the ending i understand and like that, im talking about Namor seem like theyre decent beings who just dont want to be found by surface dwellers so when Riri makes this contraption that can possibly have them found out about the surface dwellers, his plan is immediately to kill her no matter what. It would of made a bit more sense to me if they were already found out publicly and to send a message to kill the one person that can find them. But to jump from who they are to just being murderers, even when Shuri explains to him they will make sure she doesnt make that machine again and they will be safe, Namor still insist on killing Riri.
      And if youre insinuating that i only like the male roles because im sexist, just because i said in a youtube comment i really only like Namor from this movie, and btw the other male role you point out is me saying i liked Chadwicks tribute in the movie, thats literally not even a role so youre the one thats "telling" here , then to that i say LMFAO. If its just a simple confusion then to that i say LMFAO.

    Placing Namor is easy. Number 2. And I hope they do him right in the future. Surprisingly he could be one of the more popular MCU characters. I didn't think he'd translate well from comic to screen. But they changed him well enough. Same goes for Aquaman.

    I really liked this movie. But I gotta disagree with Tim on Shuri, no we didn't ever see her fight. We saw her blast people with her gauntlets. That's not fighting like Tchalla or cap would, that's like Tony would. Also, the underwater stuff to me was mostly not good. The flip into the throne and the sun were, but in general it came off as cloudy and hard to see. Reminds me of the fog in silent Hill being used to hide bad graphics.

  • @zmj1799
    @zmj1799 ปีที่แล้ว

    No idea how you guys got "M'Baku is joking" from that. He was Shuri's advisor and T'Challa trusted him so she probably asked him to take on the role of King and she will be protector as he is a great leader and she does not want that responsibility as that is not who she is, and M'Baku does not seem to want the BP Mantle either. He is putting his hat into the ring for king at the end and while it seems lighthearted he is serious.
    But overall, I enjoyed this movie a lot, especially Shuri's journey and I love her as BP. I think a lot of the action sans the Shuri/Namor fight is bad and there are some laughable CGI and what not. I didn't see it in IMAX but my partner and I agreed that we couldn't see anything at night and all the underwater stuff looked bad. I will also say that while Tenoch is charming and compelling, I didn't find a lot of his scenes to be good or believable and found him to be quite cookie cutter cartoon bad guy most of the time. Like the surface world destroys the ocean for centuries and you only want to kill a teenage girl became she made a machine out of spite that may find you and your people? Come on. I was hoping for more out of his character and its a Killmonger situation where the villain isn't that great but they are so freaking charming it makes everyone think they are a better villain than they are.
    Seriously the best stuff in this movie was Shuri/Okoye/Ramonda/Nakia and a little bit of M'Baku. When they hyper focus on Shuri in the last hour it really nails it and its a great time.

      @@lex_rodriguez unneeded? Riri is the catalyst for the entire plot, Ross and his subplot are thematically integral for portraying how little colonialism has changed and how justified Namor’s fears are, and becoming a Midnight Angel represents the end of Okoye’s character arc, finally letting go of her pride.

    Marvel, Ryan Coogler & the entire cast did such a wonderful job with this film. Chadwick Boseman definitely would be proud with what this team accomplished & how Marvel continues to build this universe.
    It was a questionable decision as to why Boseman wasn’t recast - especially with having Namor now in this world (seeing T’Challa & Namor onscreen would’ve been special). However, after watching it in its entirety, I’m okay with almost every decision made. I also understand Riri getting her own series as Ironheart (that’s probably my only complaint on the top of my head at the moment, as they could only focus on so much with 2-3 hours) as her story needed to be fleshed out alittle better, felt rushed - but all in all, this was a fantastic film...
    ...but, this was a “HARD” film to watch at times. I mean, there were scenes here that can just break you emotionally. In those regards, this isn’t a film I will be watching multiple times, but with what they have planned for Black Panther & its universe in the future... I’m so ready.

    • @lboog081284
      @lboog081284 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can’t stress how much I loved this film. I’ll keep the things that didn’t vibe with me about the film to myself for now because they were “minor” but still somewhat “spoiler-ish”, so I’ll wait a bit to share that. Other than my thoughts on how Riri was handled because we all knew she was in the film.
      But again, at times, this film is “hard”, heavy emotionally weighted at times that hit home in certain aspects. Dealing with loss… grieving. I have to be in the right state of mind to watch it again, but I did enjoy it sooooo darn much. When it was lighthearted, funny and action-oriented, it truly felt like a Marvel film. A Black Panther film.
      And Namor… my god… give me that solo film today & start building his universe ASAP. He was handled so well, and I understand why characters (Riri) were somewhat overshadowed because this film is as much an origin story for Namor as it is for honoring Boseman, Wakanda adapting to life without their King, grieving, world building for Phase 5, etc. It had a lot on its plate but Ryan Coolger, Kevin Feige, the cast/crew… Marvel did it again.
