IIRC he played 3 separate sax tracks for this, the solo and two harmonizing backing tracks. Plus he played all the harmonica tracks on all their songs that featured it.
Hi Gary! I just read your comment and I was wondering if you could tell me what collard greens are? Please excuse my ignorance I’m not from The U.S.! Thanks! Stay safe!
@@wendyryder2708 Collard greens are leafy green vegetable like spinach or kale. It can be tough if not cooked properly and it is very popular in "southern soul" food here in the US
@@garygoodman4342 You mean in the South, you left out Black-eye pea's, which during the Civil war, Yankees thought they were hog feed. Also with soul food, cannot leave out yams, cream gravy, corn on the cobb, haven't gotten to dessert yet.
Seeing them live at Woodstock was the time of my life, but even then, you could walk over 40 acres of bodies and camps and still here 8 tracks playing CCR long into the night.
John Fogerty played the sax and electric organ on this tune. I know you're just discovering CCR, and what you need to understand is that John IS the band. Decades after this song was released, 37 years after, to be precise, I saw him in concert on the opening night of his comeback tour in Louisville, KY, after a hiatus of over 20 years from doing live performances. Completely different group of musicians and I defy you to find a single person in that theater that didn't think every song in that 28 song set list sounded just like the original recordings. This was in 2007 and this song dropped in 1970! His vocals and guitar ARE the sound of CCR. It was an amazing thing to be a part of. Once he started playing, no single person ever sat down in their seat again, until he was finished with the whole concert. John had a big solo career and recorded an album called "Centerfield", in the mid 80s, that resulted in 3 or 4 hits and, get this, HE PLAYED EVERY SINGLE INSTRUMENT ON EVERY SONG ON THE ALBUM!!!! You're just leavin' the station on this man and his group, but you have long, beautiful trip ahead of you. Enjoy and Peace.
Absolutely! This was definitely better than John’s live version. The groove, the realness in his voice as he speaks the words in song...man, just takes one to a different - chill. And to an everything is alright place. Going home...comfort - that is the word I was searching for to explain.🙏 Incidentally, they were my first ever concert. How fortunate was I, huh?
My dads 70 this week and he turn me to ccr when i was 13-14, he grew up listening to them and so did i. One of the greater gifts he gave me. You should have a listen to Fogertys solo album Blue moon swamp, some awsome tunes there to.
35 years old, so I’m young for a CCR fan. I’m from an old family, so I grew up listening to the classics. This is one of my all time favorite songs. The raw soul. The way he uses his voice to allude to the coming saxophone. This is musical poetry at its purest and highest form. To this day I have tears forming by the end, every time. It’s a masterpiece. Perfect in its form and creation. Every aspect.
There weren’t many bands that had success that weren’t the “real deal”. By that I mean, it was a time when every band either created their own sound or innovated an existing sound to form yet another new sound. The Vietnam war framed most young men’s lives, and many later wrote songs about their experiences. John Fogerty is a Vietnam veteran. His songs reflect his thoughts, feelings and fears. They were one of the biggest bands in existence in the day. I can still sing along to most of CCR’s songs...but I respect silence and my neighbors enough to keep singing them to myself, where no one else hear.
I've been listening to CCR since I was a kid, because my mom was a huge fan. She passed away in May, and we played this at her memorial service. Thanks for reacting to the original.
My Father's favorite Song ever. And mine as well. This will be played at my Father's and my funeral. Beautiful soul, beautiful song, Fogerty was just awesome.
Creative energy and musical talent and lyrical depth just poured from this band. This is my favorite; the sax, his voice, that cymbal - never has a cymbal been more important to a song.
I walked down the Isle at my wedding to this song in 1988. I love this song, I knoew all the words to this song by the time I was 5 years old.😅 My parents are Boomers and I am GenX. That is one of the beat things my parents ever gave me is my taste in music.. I miss thoae days so much..❤🎶🎵❤
I wore out countless old 8 track tapes in my old truck listening to this group growing up. Never got tired of it at all. It always put me in a mood, whether I was partying or just wanting to be alone and just get away.
how his voice is imitating the sax, Is why this is so soulful. Thank you for diving into CCR, one of the great bands of all time, Now you need to "Keep On Chooglin'" and then "Ramble Tamble".
I grew up listening to this at 2am in the boat with my dad. After listening to other music for 40 years, I realize how incredible this is. Metallica and skynryd is the only thing that comes close for me
I love that John Fogarty is still out there performing, but this version is so incredible. I just can’t get enough of that grit and growl in his CCR days. It’s too bad that he and his brother had such a contentious relationship; otherwise, we might have had several more years of this totally awesome band. Thanks for doing both versions. Now that I have my morning smile, I can get on with my day. In closing: Linda Ronstadt🌺✌️
Glad you found the original. Nothing like it. That’s him on sax. That’s him on keyboards. That’s him who wrote it, arranged it, and produced it. That’s him who is massively under appreciated today. Every Creedence album was full of classic songs, with that VOICE. Thanks for going to the trouble of digging up this original!
Oh how perfect! I've been up since 3 am, sitting out here waiting for that fox that's terrorizing the chickens. (That means you're up busting it out too!) Thank you for working so hard to bring us a smile!
This was the first rock album that I fell in love with. My parents bought a stereo in 69, moved to Canada in 70, and recorded a few albums off our neighbor, one of which was this. Age 3 and I was absolutely blown away, and to this day, still am. One of THE perfect albums… not a single weak track.
Glad you did the recording with the band. I like it better than the orchestra for sure. Individually, they're each incredibly talented, but as a group is where the magic happened for me. Down on the Corner is another great song! Upbeat.
Poke salad with chopped bacon scrambled eggs and a side of buttered grits with a tall cold glass of buttermilk to wash it all down. Then it's out the door to see the light, as the sun clears these Arkansas hills. Then all day on a John Deer tractor, with a biscuit and cold creek water for lunch in the shade of an old white oak tree. Then home as the sun fades behind Sugarloaf Mountain, the dust dried in rivulets on my skin. I'm close to home when I see the glow from the kitchen window. Forty years now, comin' home to my sweet woman, my own Lady of the Light. Fifty years ago I saw that light from a jungle where I was lost. Yeah, this song is special to me. I was blessed to live through a time of such wonderful music. And I'll keep listening to these old songs till it's time for me to find that other Light to lead me Home. It's seems good to me, that you younger folks can share this song from long ago, that y'all still care to look for the light, even in these troubled times. Take care brothers and sisters of mine, and always stay close enough to see the light.
This has long been my favorite CCR. I first heard it on an old Gottleib juke box, in a little prairie town cafe right around the time that God made dirt. I miss the Sintaluta Cafe, thank you LFR for a brief visit back there, for a minute I smelled those famous burgers frying.
CCR is awesome uniqueness! Glad you found them Brohemian, you have just scratched the surface! Susie Q, is another classic that'll keep ya smiling! Check it out when ya get a chance.
Yes! Been asking for this one. I knew you’d love it. Your reactions when u r really into a song r just a pure joy to watch🙂Loved the live performance but of course the original can’t be beat!
If there is one thing my family shared it was a love of music. This was my dads fave band besides the eagles and Bob seger. My mom introduced me to motown, my bro and sis are 12 and 15 years older they introduced me to the rock of the 70s and 80s. I was an 80s baby that grew up on 90s grunge and hip hop and r&b. I am so grateful for the love of music my family gave me. And i love seeing your reactions to some of their favorites. Humble pie black coffee is another joint you should def check out.
I still have this album from when it first came out in the early 70s. It's called Cosmo's Factory. I used to to play that song over and over and over. I thought the guy in the beard was the lead singer for long time. They didn't have videos back then so I didn't know
OOPS you gonna be down this rabbit hole a long long time! CCR was my go to band all of 70's now you got me pulling out my CCR tunes again. Gonna watch your reactions first. Have an awesome weekend my friend. LOVE your reactions
Guess who played the Saxophone on this original CCR version. No surprise, it's John Fogerty.
King Curtis style.
Fogerty is also playing the Rhodes Piano
Yep, you guessed it, frank stallone.
@Diane Mccrea Interesting...I didn't know that.
I'm sorry dude but it was Tom Fogerty on the sax whilst John sings
Fogerty overall: vocals, guitar, sax, organ, piano, arrangements, composer, producer. hats off. This band was his child.
Facts, Steve! Have you read his autobiography?
@@vernacohen6988 yes
IIRC he played 3 separate sax tracks for this, the solo and two harmonizing backing tracks. Plus he played all the harmonica tracks on all their songs that featured it.
CCR is just like fried chicken, cornbread, and collard greens at Sunday dinner at grandma's. Full of soul and makes you feel good inside.

I feel close to the dude tonight and I take some comfort in that and I hope you do too... But I'm gonna miss Donnie
This is a much more rare but awesome lessor know CCR tune. So soulful.
This is the only version of this song that I have ever heard all of my life. I'm going to have to find it with the orchestra now

This song is on the album Cosmo's Factory. My first album from Creedence Clearwater Revival. I will always put the needle on the record to this song.
Reminds me of times by a bonfire, late summerbottle of wine or a cold beer and a beautiful lady . Nothing but stars overhead.
Lodi, Someday never comes, Green river, run through the jungle, Down on the corner.. So many good songs from them..

It's amazing to see someone hear these songs for the first time. They are one of the best bands to ever grace the stage.

Isn’t it great to find an artist or group that just puts a smile on your face and leaves you in a better mood?
Original version, for sure. CCR my all time fav band

Such a great spiritual song. Always reminds me of home.
Ramble Tamble. I am telling you, its great!
John Fogerty plays all other extra instruments in CCR including this Sax Solo.
Just loving your rabbit hole dive into "CCR" and "All In the Family" Van. Keep it up!
Fogerty is very much a soulful person with his music.
how his voice is imitating the sax, Is why this is so soulful. Thank you for diving into CCR, one of the great bands of all time, Now you need to "Keep On Chooglin'" and then "Ramble Tamble".
Best Version 👍👍
Original! Being an old CCR fan, I had forgotten how good these songs were. Thank you.....I believe John Fogerty played the sax, he was very talented.
More than talented.
Soul is more than color!
my favorite CCR tune....just so amazing...John still puts on a great show these days.
"Weeping In The Promised Land" is another great song where John Fogerty takes us to church.
I grew up listening to this at 2am in the boat with my dad. After listening to other music for 40 years, I realize how incredible this is.
Metallica and skynryd is the only thing that comes close for me
Im VNMC STILL LOVE CCR from việt nam,,,back to Vietnam war 😍🙏🧡💚💙❤
John Fogerty Joy of my life & Wrote a song for everyone . I think you’ll like them.

You want to say he sounds like he’s got emotional soul and it pours though you 💙🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
CCR, loved 'em years ago, love 'em now. One of the all time great bands.
Soooo much better than the live version...even though the live version was really good
So much more soulful.
this was one of my favorite bands of my youth. I always rushed out to buy their latest album whenever it was released.

What a beautiful track. Fogerty has called it his favorite ccr tune. His singing here is phenomenal.

John, John, JOHN FOGERTY the best
He has soul , they all do.
No loss for words, you said it perfectly.
Oh...the original for sure. The orchestra was nice, but the original is more raw and soulful.
Totally agree
MUST agree.
I was told to agree, and oh yeeesss. I'm bound to drift a while....
Both versions are great, but the studio version is definitely better IMO. Beautiful and soulful.🔥🔥💕
One of CCR's best songs & a personal favorite. I grew up listening to them.
Hearing this again reminds me of how good this song is. I just looked up the original & sent it to two of of my girlfreinds.
That smile on your face is exactly how this song makes me feel to brother! Much love and respect!
Glad you did the recording with the band. I like it better than the orchestra for sure. Individually, they're each incredibly talented, but as a group is where the magic happened for me.
Down on the Corner is another great song! Upbeat.
What group? The only person playing anything on the studio version is Fogerty.
Grew up on CCR and at 62 still one of my favorites. Listen to them on 8 track and LPs. Every time I travel I got my CCR collection.
I love that you love CCR. And that perma-smile! ❤️
This is the one !!!! If I had a crush this song would be it ❤❤❤❤❤❤
My kids better play this at my funeral. I’ll be 72 in June, may be playing it soon.
You were right. John sings from the heart and soul. He makes the song personal.
What a band. Keep it going, Van. You won't find a bad song.
Fogerty sounds like Fried Chicken, Collard Greens, and Corn Bread. Just comfortable souls food.
Haha! Love your description!

A year later and iv never see a music reaction.
One of the greatest songs ever.
Y'all know what it is to be home.
Others will never
I've been requesting this one since you started doing CCR. It's one of my favorite songs ever! 👍
This is my fav song by them and "some day never comes" another great song
We had a band about 20 years ago where I used to sing a lot of ACDC and CCR, This was my favorite CCR song to sing and play.
Fogerty is a California boy that sounds like his vocal chords were raked on alligator back scutes in a Louisiana bayou for 25 years.
My absolute favorite version. Like young Elvis, Fogerty had a different snap to his voice then, plus the band was tight.
I guess I'd describe John Fogerty's style as - "Fierce Soul".
CCR is awesome uniqueness! Glad you found them Brohemian, you have just scratched the surface! Susie Q, is another classic that'll keep ya smiling! Check it out when ya get a chance.
I had the 45 of Susie Q❤
Always had to play both sides.
That smile says it all.👍😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Electric light orchestra.. ELO.. won't disappoint.. many great hits 👌
This song makes you sit and listen to it! Thank you for sharing this one💖
One of my favorite songs for sure
You are most certainly right!! This is the one!
I couldn't convince my girlfriend to see Fogerty live while in Vegas. Now I'm glad, seeing him there with strings would have crushed my memories.
One of the truly great bands.
Someday Never Comes. It’s a deep song
CCR is in my top 10
Told ya, MUCH better!!!!!!!! The album version kills the live on this one and that’s John Fogherty playin sax 😉
He sounds like a sun shining day
😍😍, this is one of the greatest blues feeling!
Lookin' Out my Back Door. Makes me dance 40 years later... Enjoy.
I grew up listening CCR BEST BAND FROM 197O TAPE INCAR TURNED OUT REALLY GREAT
Yes! Been asking for this one. I knew you’d love it. Your reactions when u r really into a song r just a pure joy to watch🙂Loved the live performance but of course the original can’t be beat!
