I used to take my floaters off one leg but without watching or doing much research I started doing them off two and feel much more confident that it's going in and it's actually quicker for me. I say much research because I played against a point guard that did his off two so I started doing it and practicing it and it's a lot better
A runner has a slight pause. Like what you might see in a two motion shot. Most one motion shooters have floaters in their games. Whereas two motion shooters may utilize runners and double clutches, as it is more relevant to their skill set. This obviously isn't always the case, but something I've noticed watching NBA players.
Rose was pretty good at the 10 foot jump floater during his MVP year. Parker is the best we'll ever see. Crazy how good he was at staying under control with it after blowing by his defender.
I have to agree on the 2 footed take off. I've started to find a rhythm in my floaters primarily because I have more control when I gather and take off on 2 feet. I feel the reason why some smaller guards tend to get it off with one foot is because they feel it's quicker so it's less prone to getting blocked.
Jigolopuff was it in 2004 playoffs where in he exploded against the lakers and made a heck of a floater while Shaq attempted to block his shot. Jesus that was good!
I don't understand the people that always disagree with coach. All he does is present facts and everyone can't admit they were wrong about something. I always thought Conley was good at floaters but after this video it's obvious that he isnt
Because people don't want to learn more about the game... He isn't coming out and saying that Conley is trash, but he's offering simple critiques like obtaining better balance off 2 feet will work out advantageously for him. It's analytics vs. blatant ignorance...
Stewart Bowers exactly. I love Westbrook but when coach talks about him needing to improve in certain areas like shot selection it's obviously true and 90% of the comments are just 'he averaging a triple double' I guess NBA fans aren't open minded enough to admit faults in their favourite players
George Daugherty yeah I'm not saying he's bad but he's not as good as I thought and I can admit that unlike most people who just disagree with coach for the sake of it and present no facts in the debate😂
completely agree with you about Conley and how he should shoot the majority of his floater of off two feet but sometimes you kinda have to jump of off one foot to be able to get it off before the big man can block the shot. however I can't really say anything about if it's his decision to take those one footed floaters or if he's forced to take them because I abviously you are the one who go through all the footage and the stats
Coach, I think it’s time for you to do a sequel to this video! I’m a big time Utah Jazz fan. I think Mike Conley is playing much better this season than last season before the bubble
WormChemistry When he said "over the years" I thought he could have talked about Rose because he had a pretty great floater back then (2010-2011-2012). Otherwise i agree with you, this year he is not in the top. That's why I made this comment, calm --"
2 foot floater makes it easier to transfer your horizontal motion (driving to the bucket) into a vertical motion (quick hop for the floater). Better deceleration = better control
Thanks for the video coach. You should tell all your players and viewers that the floater is the most accurate, least physically demanding, least injury prone 2 pts u can ever make among the trees! This is my main shot. Its been blocked maybe 3 times in 10 yrs. I even make em w a foot on the ft line. Took yrs to get it down
Great Vid! Loved these little details that one never thinks about when watching games. Could you do a comparison year by year and the rise of Conley vs other guards for example Kyrie/Wall/Parker/etc. Not just by the numbers, but what really makes Conley valuable enough to get earn him a max contract. Cause I see a lot of people shaking their heads to the fact that if Conley really is worth that much as of a max deal? Thanks and again, great vid. Keep up the good work!
what I want to know is where he gets these stats from. like I didn't know they recorded stats for two legged and one legged floaters. Someone must have a really boring job trying to see how many legs he's jumping off of.
jayelleseven bro I know the NBA records stats I'm just wondering where he got it from. The NBA.com site as far as I know doesn't have these advanced stats
although that all star game wasn't that special, i decided to watch it, and there was something that caught my eye: steve kerr was mic'd up, and during a stoppage, they showed him talking to the players when huddled, and asking what plays they ran on their teams, and how he could put out certain 5-man lineups so that they would feel comfortable. ie, he knew harden ran the spain pnr, and so he was drawing on the clipboard and asking harden who they should screen the 5-man for him instead of eric gordon. for russ, he knew russ liked spreading the floor, so he asked who russ wanted on the floor for him. thought that was a cool moment.
Very timely advice, thanks coach! Also do u make a distinction between floater and runner? The runner is off one leg while the floater is off 2? If so then does that mean u don't recommend runners at all? Maybe a follow up video on who shoots the runner well and why?
I find that this is like a jump shot as in form comes to personal preference. I shoot floaters off one leg because when I try of two there's just two much of a jolt in my movement whereas off one leg my movement is smooth and I don't have to adjust as much
This kind of shot is usually difficult because it's so different than all the other shots players practice and use in games. It's short-range, high arc, one-hand, no smooth shooting motion or back over head and it's while running so there's momentum. It's got a lot of variables. What could go wrong? Everything. However, practicing the mid- to short-range shot and the high arcing shot and the high high release could help all your other shots too.
proshot did a rundown saying the floater and runner were different things. What steve nash did was use a runner, off one leg and looks more like a jump shot. And the floater is off of two feet. What would you say to that?
Great video, but disagree a bit with you on one thing. From most of the highlights I've seen, Steph most often uses the one foot floater as shown in 1:07, because it is quicker.
To learn and study how to release properly, time the jump and use the body in an efficient way - i recommend to watch Joe Johnson. He really mastered the art of floaters.
You don't want to go off 1 foot because if the defense reacts accordingly you will be in a difficult position the either make the floater or pass the ball while you are in the air. If you plant both feet you can ball fake, hesitate, etc. and throw the defender off guard or make a pass while you are still on the ground.
Best floater to me is Tony Parker. He has perfected his floater with consistency. Best runner is Steve Nash. Something about his one legged runner is beautiful, same with his fadeaway 3 off a screen.
How melo would work in the cavs?? Does KLove and kyrie still sucks on defense? Should they look for a center in free agency? They dont have any one(apart from tompson) that can defend the rim and is sizefull enogh
Diego Amorena I don't think they should go after a defensive-minded center. Golden State doesn't have one, San Antonio doesn't have one, Al Horford is not a rim protector for Boston etc. Having a big man who can defend the rim is not a requirement anymore for championship conteders. They should not trade for Melo since they don't need another ball-dominant iso player.
Memphis is one of my favorite teams but i feel like theyre missing something. Man if Green was more aggressive they could be a serious contender for the title. If the league wasnt so soft with the rules they would probably have a better shot. Love that Bullyball fellas.
Warriors still won't win it shows he is having a career low in floater fg pct this year, other years he wasnt actually that bad, shooting in the 40s every year until now, not to mention he has been hurt many times in all of the years mentioned
Do You Think Conley or any of the Grizzly coaching staff is aware of this??? BLOWS MY MIND THAT A PLAYER MAKING MILLIONS AND AN ORGANIZATION WORTH CLOSE TO A BILLION WOULDNT BE ABLE TO FIGURE THIS STUFF OUT
I used to take my floaters off one leg but without watching or doing much research I started doing them off two and feel much more confident that it's going in and it's actually quicker for me. I say much research because I played against a point guard that did his off two so I started doing it and practicing it and it's a lot better
+Ryan Lowe awesome, glad you've seen the light!!
This is more entertaining than the All-star weekend
Vishal Aadinath Arunkumar lol W
Ikr
right the dunk contest was better last year than this year
Vishal Aadinath Arunkumar I stubbed my toe and had more fun than watching all star weekend
Floater and Runner are NOT the same move. Tony Parker does the Floater, Steve Nash does the (one-legged) Runner
+CookieJoe Lp they're cousins
BBALLBREAKDOWN true. just wanted to point that out. great Video anyway. keep it up
BBALLBREAKDOWN don't give me that boogie trash
BBALLBREAKDOWN Damarcus too

+Harry Mak great to hear. And it's too bad people think 1 foot is quicker
I personally love and teach both. Some players have amazing control off either.
Me too. I do both, but I'm starting to become a 2-foot floater
Harry Mak 2 foot Definetly gives you more balance
Tru it gets the shot off faster but there not going in most the time therefore it's a waste of time
So some times a short cut can take u off ur path
Would like to see this analysis updated in 2019-20
Same
He ain't Tony Parker baby. TP has the best floater of all time
Jigolopuff yasss
Jigolopuff was it in 2004 playoffs where in he exploded against the lakers and made a heck of a floater while Shaq attempted to block his shot. Jesus that was good!

Richard Saxon cuz Coach Nick once said Steph Curry was an elite defender....
completely agree with you about Conley and how he should shoot the majority of his floater of off two feet but sometimes you kinda have to jump of off one foot to be able to get it off before the big man can block the shot. however I can't really say anything about if it's his decision to take those one footed floaters or if he's forced to take them because I abviously you are the one who go through all the footage and the stats

is that % differential of 1 foot versus 2 foot floaters typically that high? Do you see any players that shoot 1 foot floaters better than 2 foot?
Wow wow wow. Good work, coach. Do you have many requests from players and teams to scout themselves?
+Mike Kearney Thx! I've consulted a bit 🏀💪
BBALLBREAKDOWN #HumbleBragging
like nba players?
Absolutely.
How can you not talk about Rose floater at the beginning :p
+Romain Apers because its average, right around Conley
Romain Apers cause he's not in the top. why else? maybe check the stats before you comment
BBALLBREAKDOWN COACH U GOTTA DO A VIDEO ON THE DEMARCUS COUSINS TRADE! HOLY CRAP HOW DOES HE FIT WITH DAVIS???
WormChemistry When he said "over the years" I thought he could have talked about Rose because he had a pretty great floater back then (2010-2011-2012). Otherwise i agree with you, this year he is not in the top.

Your videos are stimulating. Keep it up coach
+jojo tho 💪🏀👍

Excellent analysis, Coach.

+jayelleseven bingo. Except the 1 footed Floaters usually leave the guard slamming into the big guy. Hard.
Coach always brings the facts, another great video
Great Vid! Loved these little details that one never thinks about when watching games.

what I want to know is where he gets these stats from. like I didn't know they recorded stats for two legged and one legged floaters. Someone must have a really boring job trying to see how many legs he's jumping off of.
Aaron Green That's the job of a video man
Aaron Green stats are everything to the nba. Someones always recording everything
jayelleseven yeah and all he asked was the goddamn SOURCE dont gimme that stats are essential bs.
jayelleseven bro I know the NBA records stats I'm just wondering where he got it from. The NBA.com site as far as I know doesn't have these advanced stats
Great video coach, and can we please get a breakdown on the cousins pelicans trade ASAP and how it will affect both teams?
+GEON KIM hopefully today
although that all star game wasn't that special, i decided to watch it, and there was something that caught my eye: steve kerr was mic'd up, and during a stoppage, they showed him talking to the players when huddled, and asking what plays they ran on their teams, and how he could put out certain 5-man lineups so that they would feel comfortable. ie, he knew harden ran the spain pnr, and so he was drawing on the clipboard and asking harden who they should screen the 5-man for him instead of eric gordon. for russ, he knew russ liked spreading the floor, so he asked who russ wanted on the floor for him. thought that was a cool moment.
ReCharredSigh cool moment but the game was complete trash
+ReCharredSigh yes! I shared the video of that in twitter!!
Great analysis coach! Thanks for the video!
+Javier Arguedas 💪🏀👊
Very timely advice, thanks coach! Also do u make a distinction between floater and runner? The runner is off one leg while the floater is off 2? If so then does that mean u don't recommend runners at all? Maybe a follow up video on who shoots the runner well and why?
I do the same thing as Conley, I'm ambidextrous and my right handed floater works very well and honestly I prefer my right hand around the basket.
Great perspective. Keep it on
+Zhang Tianxiao thx!
I find that this is like a jump shot as in form comes to personal preference. I shoot floaters off one leg because when I try of two there's just two much of a jolt in my movement whereas off one leg my movement is smooth and I don't have to adjust as much
hey coach, ol' school here... What would u consider Mark Jackson's famous teardrop? A runner, or a floater?? Thanks!
I never thought of one or two footed floaters being preferential over the other. Going to practice off two feet more. Thanks!
+LazerC4 let me know how it goes!
Thanks for the tips Coach!!!
Coach, thanks for the vid. I am wondering when it is appropriate to shoot a one foot floater instead? I see Curry does both quite a lot.
Video request to revisit this? I feel like he fixed this since this video.
proshot did a rundown saying the floater and runner were different things. What steve nash did was use a runner, off one leg and looks more like a jump shot. And the floater is off of two feet. What would you say to that?
Great video coach!! I always thought that one hand was better :O
Coach Nick, the last thing I thought you would do was break down "that darn righty-floater".
Great video, but disagree a bit with you on one thing. From most of the highlights I've seen, Steph most often uses the one foot floater as shown in 1:07, because it is quicker.
+Mushrif Ahmed it's not quicker believe it or not. And I can show u more 2 foot jumps from Curry
To learn and study how to release properly, time the jump and use the body in an efficient way - i recommend to watch Joe Johnson. He really mastered the art of floaters.

Game 4 against Spurs. He scored so many floaters lol
Mathias C fr fr
I love floaters. thanks for the great video.
Best floater to me is Tony Parker. He has perfected his floater with consistency.
Best runner is Steve Nash. Something about his one legged runner is beautiful, same with his fadeaway 3 off a screen.
Sounds like coach needs a job as Mike Conley's trainer. He needs to watch this!
Is a floater a push or shot without the guide hand?
J Money yes
E'Twan Moore's floater game is legit, his bread and butter move
drose's floater >
I think he should put more arc on his one footed floaters
You made me realize I've been jumping off 2 feet my whole life lol thanks coach
great vid
well now I just feel more bad for the grizzlies :-( how can we get Conley to see this and take heed??
I shoot most floaters off of one leg, and I'm pretty good at it. Shooting two-legged makes my shot better, but I almost never find a spot to do it.
Conleys floater got him 153 million I think he fine
Hmm. I always thought off of one foot was called a runner and off two was a floater. Must be semantics.
Hey Coach, remember how you did those vids that cost 99 cents to watch? How about turning those vids into TH-cam Red? Just an idea. :)
+Leo Lei how do I do that?
very very nice
Why don't more guards try to bank in their floaters?
Dameatis Smalls that's what I do. works like a charm in any situation
personally I think it just adds to the degree of difficulty
Dangelo Russell is lowkey pretty good at this
I use one leg for floaters and it works but the two legged floater is good to know
Who keeps track of which hand conley shoots each floater?
being good at floaters isn't the only move or even the most effective around the hoop
Nor did this video claim that
He said that McCollum having a floater made him the best in the league around the rim
How melo would work in the cavs?? Does KLove and kyrie still sucks on defense? Should they look for a center in free agency? They dont have any one(apart from tompson) that can defend the rim and is sizefull enogh
Diego Amorena

They should not trade for Melo since they don't need another ball-dominant iso player.
Someone @ this to D'angelo Russell please! My dude needs to get his floater game back from 2015 where he was the 2nd best.
Memphis is one of my favorite teams but i feel like theyre missing something. Man if Green was more aggressive they could be a serious contender for the title. If the league wasnt so soft with the rules they would probably have a better shot. Love that Bullyball fellas.
waiting for Cousins/Davis video
+Jon Snow knows nothing just got up and already thinking about what it's going to bee
Mac mac cardona hook shot is the floater of all floater
i agree that his floater needs better timing and accuracy.
This man just said George Hill and Seth Curry are brothers lmao :53
Juan castro he said "The not as famous as his brother Seth Curry", meaning Seth isn't as famous as Steph
Lol, he can hit the floater everytime now. I think he watched this video.
Rose got the best floater game.. he makes it look better than everybody else lol
+shady shady unfortunately Rose's FG% is average like Conley
hes been playing with a broken back....
BLOWS MY MIND THAT A PLAYER MAKING MILLIONS AND AN ORGANIZATION WORTH CLOSE TO A BILLION WOULDNT BE ABLE TO FIGURE THIS STUFF OUT
Thanks I'm going to assume thus is why my floaters are garbage I shoot them off one foot
Rondo has a good floater
D Rose has the best floater of all time
I didn't know Seth Curry and George hill were brothers lol
This is yet further evidence that Mike Conley's contract is the second biggest joke in the NBA history.
Bullshit bruh.
⚡️
Also known as the tear drop lol
Wtf are u talking about mike can finish with both hands on floaters
Kyle Lowry's floater?
didn't know George hill was a curry bro
And if u look at it he he makes 60.9% of his drives
Ha! Responding to critics with (non alternative) facts and analysis. Some certain leaders should take a page out of this book.
derrick rose had a disgusting runner the way he used to get up so high
warriors getting swept by pels in first round
Derrick Rose?
for every year of your data he's been hurt... www.foxsports.com/nba/mike-conley-player-injuries
stick to the right hand mike
So ummmm I think he fixed it
Not really. Last year he was really good but he’s been really off this year 🤷🏻♂️
Anthony Davis has the best floater game in the league. don't believe me? look it up
this guy hates DeRozan
This is bs lol if u look at his hilights now it's nothing but floaters
Damn. Always thought he was beast at floaters. Coach making me realize. He's woke!
hater.
conley is overrated. hes a good player, but is way too talked about for a guy who cant make the all star team
Tresor Masengo he's never talked about wtf u talking bout
