Fragile skin has a wide range of origin but the treatments are all the same. It is necessary to find out where the most fragile areas of the foot and ankle are and being careful that the design of the upper doesn’t impinge on those. The style also needs to open up wide so that the foot does not need to slide in past a pass line.
The degree of fragility determines the range of solutions that are appropriate. For milder conditions the strategy of no seams and soft materials may suffice. For severe conditions a full shoe opening is required and a full contact insole covered in soft material and made to the cast of the foot.
A cushion quarter prevents stones entering the shoe and damaging the feet. Sheep skin lining provides a good soft and wicking contact layer.
