      @@johnnysweekendsif you're using your generator that much, then the 100 hrs is fully justified. However, my generator recommends oils of API SE OR HIGHER category. I've been using Shell Rimula R4X 15w40 diesel engine oil API CI 4/SL , great stuff

    Really good video. Just bought a eu2200i a few days ago after enduring 20 years of Anchorage winters without a backup for heat (boiler/baseboard, no fireplace here) when the power goes out (which it does frequently in this neighborhood). Big windstorm this past Wednesday night knocked us out, and with the house temp down to the mid 50s after 12+ hours without heat, I'd had enough. Now learning all about how great generators are and how to maintain them. You make servicing it look kind of fun! Cheers from Alaska!

    Fantastic job as usual. I was scared of those exhaust bolts but mine went just like yours. I have about 70 hrs on the genny and 3 years old. The screen looked pretty darn clean but I gave it the old propane torch touch. It seems to run a bit smoother at idle too but I didn't even see any blockage. Thanks for taking the mystery out of maintenance. I still think the valve clearance check schedule is nuts for these machines but that's just me lol.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Back when I used to work on dirt bikes and jet skis and boats and more, when it came to certain things like valve clearance checks, sometimes the old saying goes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
      When it becomes hard to start or maybe backfires then it’s time.

  • @Trump985

    I wouldn’t change the spark plug every 100 hours that’s insane in my opinion but my Honda is running 12-18 hours a day so that might make a difference. I personally change the oil once a week and generally the plug every 500 hours or so. I change the spark plug on condition not hours. But generally it’s about 500 hours. The air filter doesn’t need to be cleaned but every 500 hours or more unless your running it in a dirty environment.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I wouldn’t change the spark plug if it didn’t need it either.
      But hence why I said and stated in the manual “I/R” “Inspect and or replace”
      Same with air filter “inspect and service “
      The 100 hour service is a oil change and inspection and replacement and or service of the other items.
      But in reality keep a spare spark plug and when it becomes hard starting and running a little rough at idle or varies rpm then a good idea to inspect and or replace with new..👍🏼

      @@Trump985 I love these generators I was told by a friend that's a vendor that uses them, change the oil every 24 hours, it's not very expensive. Doing that he is getting 5,000 hours plus before needing any serious work

    • @Trump985
      @Trump985 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@winstonsizemore2385 That’s the best thing you can do. There isn’t any excuse not to change the oil in one of these things it literally only takes a few seconds to change it and holds considerably less then a quart of oil. However you’d be shocked at how many people can’t be bothered to take a minute or two to change it!

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I only torqued plugs when i was in my teens after doing this for decades no need. Tighten till you feel it start to snug on the crush washer then a good 1/4 turn and done.

    Can u show how to clean fuel filter and tank?

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You typically wanna replace it if you get there. Because you have to pull the front cover and split the case to move the tank. So if you are there might as well change it. At some I may be able to.

    Just wondering, I have had 2 2200i for about 3 or 4 years. Should I change the oil. They only have about 10 hours.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oil does loose its protective properties once installed and used some. Even the metal can wear it down just sitting. Not so much with these newer oils but I would at least change it. Super cheap to change and worth it to keep the little Hondas going 👍🏼

    Is it really necessary to buy the Honda branded 10w-30 oil or any 10w-30 would be fine

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Defiantly not as Honda doesn’t even make oil. They do make nice stickers though.

    • @Loki_Lou
      @Loki_Lou 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thabks! I thought the oil with Honda sticker was made by them. Any recommendations on what brand of oil? Also where did you get your clear plastic cup? Seems like a really clean way to get the oil out without having to deal with a messy oil drain pan.😂

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @Loki_Lou no most brands are not made by them just manufacturers or the actual oil companies then get distributed from there. But companies do ask for certain blends or ask what the companies recommend. Some have more friction modifiers or zinc and more.
      The best oil period is amsoil. The next would be pennzoil platinum. After that the rest get very close. Remember it’s an outdoor engine that has no oil filter and holds a small amount of oil. Change it frequently with any name brand or heck I have been using Kirkland,Walmart and amazon basics now because they are so close and I believe all made by warren distribution

    I have this generator and it won't start.. it was working only with the choke on recently. So I tried doing a carburetor cleaner that didn't work. Now I pulled out the spark plug and I noticed there's a bit of oil on the tip. Is that the problem?
