BROKEN BRITANNIA Is Rescued By A CLASS 37 After FAILING At Carlisle Upperby! (LSL, 37521) | 15/4/24.

- After Britannia had failed on Saturday (Seen in one of my recent videos) it was then rescued from Carlisle Upperby depot by 37521 and taken back to LSL’s Crewe depot for it to be repaired!
Love the 'authentic weathering' on the 37, while the Brit and coach are 'out of the box'.🤣

Glad you made the effort given that wind - they were early too I understand so some I spoke too missed this.
Yes it was actually helpful for me that they were early because the lighting was much better but it’s a shame some people missed it, I saw no one else at Upperby surprisingly!

Very nice, BTW, have you heard anything more about lsl new Upperby depot, if there going to build a shed or !?
Not sure, they brought them coaches up and stored them there in November last year, I think they must have more plans for it but I’m not sure what, hopefully a shed and maybe some locos stored there.

Hi, I think that Britannia was in light steam to keep the cylinders and other moving parts lubricate, thanks for the comment! 👍
@gerardbooth40 ... I wondered that too. I thought perhaps the Upperby turntable was steam/vacuum driven. But would accept TVs reason too.
@@rarerufus8864 Hi, Upperby doesn’t have a turntable it instead has a curve which they use to turn trains so it can’t be that reason, thanks for the reply though! 👍
Steam required for the atomisers to work to lubricate cylinders when being moving. Towing dead means motion must come down and cross heads locked into position

Interesting that they left the eccentrics connected
The eccentrics need to be reconnected as they stop the coupling rods from moving off the end of the crank pin.

Why did it need TWO GOES to get onto the same line that the Brit was on???
I’m not 100% sure but it will have been due to the layout of the track and points which meant it wasn’t possible to go straight onto the line with Britannia on, thanks for the comment! 👍

60years ago, the Brit would have rescued a failed 37!
Not much chance as 37's where and still are very reliable, one of the most reliable of their time, out living all steam engines, an impressive record.
I remember the 1-Co-Co-1 Peaks taking over from the Brits on the Norwich-London run early 60s
