It's great to see a `prinny royal` in full throttle but alas does it need a diesel on the rear and please don't comment with " in case it breaks down", this class as we all know is perfectly capable of hauling a 13 coach train unaided, as being a true steam enthusiast from the 1950s and 60s, I was well used to seeing these locos regularly around Crewe and Liverpool but NEVER with a diesel in tow, the only thing I can think of is the railway companies stipulate this in any contract, another thing of note, the shed code 10A was the old Springs Branch shed at Wigan and I never remember it being shedded there, for a time it was at 5A Crewe, 66A Polmadie Glasgow or the old 12A Carlisle Kingmoor and thanks Phil for the great footage.
Thanks, glad you like the video. I agree the Princess is more than capable of hauling the train alone. It's not just a case of if it breaks down though. These days there might not be a recovery loco, from the same company, any where near. Whereas as in BR days, there would be plenty available at a nearby shed? Network Rail also impose heavy fines to any company whose train is blocking the line. Again unlike when it was all BR. Also the diesel is needed for the electric train heating etc.
diesels on the rear can be use as return service whenever the route ends to a terminus along with giving electric heating to the coaches (if the diesel has one)
Super video Phil thanks for filming on an awful wet afternoon.Plenty going on there and trains getting in shot.Loved the sight and sound as she departed Carlisle.Hope she comes South to Crewe soon.👍
Thanks Rick, especially for you! At least i didn't have the sun in the wrong place :-). Nice variety of trains of all ages.? Taking it easy after a small slip, but soon got going!
Haha, yes I see what you mean, it could have been me, but thankfully not. Glad you enjoyed it. Penrith was the worst bit, plenty of shelter at Carlisle.
Nice camerawork. Why are they using coaches with A/C for steam trips? Mights as well have a class 90 on the front. The mark II with air con have pokey little windows. And don't the Hitachi trains look dreadful with all the clutter on the roof. There is not much point in having a pointy nose with all the air resistance caused by the rooftop boxes, and more from the wide gaps between the carriages. The Pacific and its mark 1 look great, though.
Through Penrith at full belt ,probably done that 1000,s times up to1962 ,the power ,sound and smell of steam incredible ,I wonder what a night time shot would look like with firebox and exhaust glowing ,by the way is it only me that finds the station commentary and diesel on the rear an irritant.!
What was that car on the end of the Train? Was that one of doz new fangled DIESELS? Was something wrong with it? Was it broken? I guess the Steam Engine was being a nice Lady and pulling it to the Shops......... Beautiful video!!! Keep it going,
Was there ever a Margaret, was there many built? I'm Aussie. I lately have taken a interest in these English steam Locomotives, I am going to learn it all.
foolish comment coming from a extremely ignorant people, the diesel does nothing other than being a dynamic brake support and as a shunter whenever the trains ends in a terminus
It was a tongue in cheek comment.. I'm a railwayman of 30 years standing so I'm well aware why a DMU was at the rear Mind you both are time expired. Perhaps they will convert them to LPG or electric😁
Lovely to See Princess Elizabeth back where she belongs and in full steam
Agreed 💯

Wonderful footage of a superb looking loco.
Thanks paul. 👍
What a beauty 👍👍👍
Certainly is!
Best of both worlds, Phil. At speed and shunting! Very good!
Thanks Alan, and no need for an umbrella, to cause trouble! :-)
No, you were in luck, there!
Cracking footage Phil at both locations, looking and sounding good at Carlisle. Added bonus of the 66!👌
Many thanks David. Glad you liked the bonus.
Excellent video Phil, mixing the old with the new like that. Best video this week.
Many thanks for that Philip. Glad you enjoyed it.

Great video,
How you manage to find the time to get to each location is marvellous,
Thanks, the next service train followed 6201😀

Would be a great night time shot. Maybe an irritant, but , to me,just one of those things we have to accept?
well covered Phil.. But what about those naughty trains pushing their way in to the shots. tut tut
Many thanks Keith. I know the youngsters of today have no respect for the older generation :-)?

because it will end to a terminus and you know how difficult it is to run a steam engine on cab forward?

In the same class was Princess Margaret Rose.
Amazing :D
Thanks Connor
At spread with 13 on the draw bar, oh an a useless paraffin can.
Modern trains are faster, cleaner, and more efficient but boring compared to these majestic steam engines
Don't be fooled....All the work is being done by the DMU at the back

@@jowettcars LPG is rididcilous
