Dad, what did you specifically do? I’ve been trying almost the same thing to include backpack sprayer ammonium sulfate, Lowe’s version of Milorganite, real Milorganite, premium seed (hundreds of dollars worth ), starter ferts, Humic Acid, Iron, Nitrogen, and a shit ton of top-dressing which is where I am now. I mixed pre-germinated with premium regular seed. Been watering. My first attempt was premium seed, top dressing but a two week 90 degree drought in the Rochester NY area near Lake Ontario. Waiting on results. Got some growth, but man! I’ve put over a month into this and a grand. New equipment too, new commercial broadcast spreader, Scott’s Wizz. Geesh

Very nice, Yes I did preform a soil test but it was a very cheap soil test from HD… I know I know. Now I just use our local nursery “The Grass Pad” and highly trust their products. Thanks for your support Kkevinj1.

    Did you aerate beforehand?

    • @petedetraglia4776

The majority of regular lawn care people don't have the money to aerate. Dethatching whether you do it with a rake or with machine is a cheaper and effective way to get seed to soil contact. Dethatch, cut lawn short, use manual or mechanical cultivator to loosen the top of soil, seed, thin top cover with soil or peat moss, and keep the seed moist but not saturated at least 3 times a day if possible for best germination. Starter fert and a safe pre immergent for seeding will help keep new weeds from causing havoc in your new seeding...Soil temperature is very important and must be atleast 55 degrees for seed to germinate...Good luck if your seeding this year!

Dude… I had a rental aerator all setup but we sold the house quickly and didn’t think it was worth it but I will definitely detach and aerate at our new property just need to hurry up and wait for fall.

Pregermanation is a waste of time.

Verified! I had to learn the hard way, plus I never got to see the full results! because we bought a new house. Thanks for commenting SVW1976.
