The Harvey Wallbanger, aka Vanilla Screwdriver, is an easy mixed drink consisting of a decent measure of vodka, orange juice and Italian vanilla liqueur (Galliano).
INGREDIENTS
- 45mL Vodka
- 15mL Galliano
- Orange Juice
HOW TO
1. Add the vodka & orange juice to your high ball glass
2. Float the Galliano on top
3. Garnish with an orange slice

One of my favorite drinks I discovered back in 1970.
I have not had a Harvey Wallbanger since about 1981 when i was living in South Africa. Thanks for the video. I plan on making it soon, for old timers sake.

I have that nostalgia as well, but perhaps mine is older because I recall Galliano having more anise flavour with citrus and not just vanilla. The Galliano i got today (at that big box retail store) just seems to be sweet vanilla.
Just had this and did one full shot of each with a orange, was pretty awesome!
I met a bartender from NY who made me a Tequila Sunrise New York Style. The ingredients is the recipe for Tequila Sunrise plus a shot of Vodka and a dash of Grenadine. Wow it was potent but so delicious. Don't overdo the Grenadine. Super delicious but drink it slow. Yum, yum.
I miss those.

I love me some HWs. Good session drink to get all gassed up on. :) Of course when we really wanted to get whacky we'd go hogwild on the vodka paralyzers. Now there's fun in a glass. :)

I remember the Galliano. Super sugar lol , that stuff will literally crystallize if you just pour a bit on a saucer and let it set.

All these years later, I have to mention that you used the Galliano Vanilla, which is sweeter and less proofy than the Galliano L'autentico that the original recipe calls for. Probably largely a different flavor as well.
YeH, admittedly I had no idea that there were two “yellow” Galliano bottles available until recently. L’autentico isn’t readily available in Australia..
@@StevetheBartender_ It's probably for the best, the vanilla is what most of the bars around me use. L'autentico is pretty bad, it has a weird fennel flavor to it, not good with orange juice.
Why have I spent the last forty years or so thinking that Galliano was a banana flavoured liqueur? The Harvey Wallbanger was a "Ship's drink" when my Dad was in the Royal Navy, that is it was the drink you would be offered when you went on board. I'm sure they taught me how to make it, float the Galliano like the Whiskey in Irish Coffee...I wasn't even old enough to drink at the time but I could still be hospitable.
I could see how it could be confused.. the colour and soft aroma.. have you drunk them since you were a young bartender? 😂

Yeah, I used to think the same thing when I was a kid, probably by virtue of the fact, as Steve said, the color and aroma.

Think Dreamsicle if you want an idea of flavor.. that's as close as you're gonna get without actually tasting one.
