those are a brilliant idea I have one of those tomato looking pin holders and its rather small and i always stab myself poking needles in from the other side but this is a great idea
This is something I first heard about on Nik the Booksmith's channel. Apparently they were something that would be one of the first things a young girl would make when she was practicing their stitches and learning how to sew. They would end up making one of these needle books to keep their needles in. She had some samples of really old ones. She also mentioned that if you use real Wool Felt instead of the craft felt, it prevents your needles from rusting. I managed to find some actual wool felt at Michael's and it's much thicker than the craft felt, and where touching the craft felt feels dry, there must be lanolin in the wool felt still being actual wool from sheep, and it almost feels like it's moisturizing my hands to touch the piece of felt. No need to use it for the entire book, just I think where the needles will be kept in. I haven't made mine yet and I've got some weird needles like curved ones for upholstery and stuff. I was wondering if I should embroider the type of needle on each page before sewing them maybe together back to back so the backside didn't show. Also was wondering about making it large enough to hold my little crane embroidery scissors, or maybe even straight pins, but then it turns into a whole "thing"... When I was younger I made bookmarks out of felt, just a strip of felt maybe an inch wide and some little animal head on top. Like an owl, a circle head with a little padding inside some ears sew the two sides together with a blanket stitch or something and those turned out cute. If you wanted it to be stiffer you could make the strip with a coffee stir stick or something sewn inside two pieces. Now you got me thinking about it again, and wondering about how if I were to put it in a purse I'd poke myself, so maybe I should make it small enough that I could stuff it into an empty Altoids tin or something. At this rate I'll never even start!
I think you have lots of good ideas! 😀 I kept mine really basic but there were so many cute ideas on Pinterest with lots of detail...some including a place for scissors like you mentioned. I wouldn’t like it directly in my purse either for the same reason, but maybe in a zippered pocket in a purse or tote....🤔 That’s a very interesting fact about the needle books being a beginner sewing project. I think that’s sweet. I didn’t know that about the feet, either, so thanks for sharing that helpful tidbit. I think, the new stuff I bought has some actual wool I’m in, but I know what you mean about the feel of the craft felt. Your embroidery idea sounds neat for labeling the type of needle. I’ve also seen people use a fabric marker but the embroidery would be really nice. I hope you like making one if you decide to...let me know how it goes! Thanks for your comments.
so sweet!i’m sure she’s gonna love it🤍
Thank you! I hope so!
A sweet adorable gift 💕💕
Thanks! 😊

There is a saying that every quilt has a mistake because only God is perfect, You have a good heart,
Thank you. That is really sweet of you. I think she liked this little gift and didn’t notice the things I did about it not being “perfect”. 💚
