Ive had my first pair for close to 5 years, went backpacking, trekking, travelling all over the world and the soles are still super new.. hot weather, snow, rain, muddy, you name it, waterproofing is really good. No issues. I can also wear it to town with jeans. Ive the brown one. The insole is the only downside but swapped that out so easily.
Just got a new colour to replace my old ones! Amazing boots

I bought my first Lowa boots in the early 2000's. For me they are the perfect boot. I've had my last pair, the Renegades, for over 8 years wearing them every day, I don't know how many thousands of miles. I only just got a new pair a few months ago, exact same model. I still wear the old ones for yard work.
A trick I use for the top taces is to use my pointer fingers to guide the laces while using the rest of my fingers and my palms to hold the laces tight. That really locks them in.

I'm onto my third pair. They take almost zero time to break in and are lovely. Sole lasts for years.
Last year I had to wade up to my thighs in a river for about 10 seconds. So I made my Renegade boots nice and tight, waded through, and only a very small amount of water even got in!
My only complaint is that the stitching on the front corners has failed a little bit before the sole, letting water in by the little and/or big toes.
Otherwise, fantastic and the inside of the shoe is still perfect even after I finally have to chuck them out.

I picked up their Malta mid boot and find it perfect for city walking too. Same quality, stability, and design as the Renegade but with more of a "shoe" look to it. Really recommend it as a hybrid travel boot for urban and rural hiking.

the Renegades come in a wide foot that may help with a slightly wide toe box . I will be trying these on next month on a work trip out of town that has my size so i can try them on . I have wide feet so i hope to find the right fit . Great review btw , the renegade gtx looks like a great all around boot .

Had my Renegades for several years. Honestly worn as a work boot and occasional hike. Narrow toebox has been an issue, along with the sole separating from the boot being a concern, and that happened way to soon after purchasing. Overall comfort and trust, except for what I mentioned …. 100%

    Great boots!
I wear them on hikes, when i go fishing or doing a city trip.
    They're really allround, love it.

I love mine, but the sole wears super fast. I'm on my 4th pair. I need a new set every 2 years. I only use them for roughly 4 hours a week... And just getting the sole replaced is expensive compared to a new pair of shoes on sale.

I've tried for years to like the Renegade, had almost a dozen pairs, but gave up. The midsoles disintegrate and the stitching gives up long, long before the tread is used up. If you leave a nice pair on the shelf for occasions, the midsole will disintegrate and you'll have to toss them. Even the Made in Germany versions of Lowa boots do this. But I think all my Renegades say made in Slovakia.

I had Lowa Super Camp boots, they were perfectly fine for 4-5 years, and one day while I was walking in a wet grass the sole just started to disintegrate, tried glue, shoe-goo, it kept becoming worse.

You are SO RIGHT about waterproof membrane boots being too hot for summer hiking. I have a pair of Lowa Zephyr Mid TF Desert boots ( non Gore-Tex ) and they are too hot even in mild temperatures. I am very disappointed about that. I have a pair of Erem Xerocole boots en route to me. Maybe they will be the REAL summer hiking boot ! Best regards.

Lowa has a new patented Rayflect® technology. currently only used on Breacher GTX HI and Combat Boot MK2 GTX. maybe over time it will switch to Zephyr. Shoes with Rayflect reflect sunlight so they don't overheat

Hello, I enjoy your channel. I'm glad I found it. I plan on hiking around 1000km, March to Oct (mostly warm weather) mostly on the Trans Canada Trail. I'm looking for a great hiking boot/shoe that will hold up and breath but also provide some water protection. Thoughts? After thought: with a good cushion and stability

Not too sure if this channel is being used, but I was just wondering how the fit of these boots compares to a Salomon boot, please? I use a Salomon Quest 3 (which is now very worn), and was wondering if the Lowa in the review compares to the Salomon’s standard shape fit. Thanks.

I'm in similar place right now. Just worn through a pair of solaman Quest gtx 4D paid £160. Not that happy with them. Developed a squeak with the right boot. And they probably wore out faster than I would have hoped. I'm looking at the Lowa renegade gtx (not mid) as a replacement. Around £156 right now. They have a bigger discount than the Solomon boots

@@utahnick well the salmon element is basically the quest and is 40 bucks cheaper than the quest so price goes to Salomon. But Lowa seems to make a good boot, wish this guy doing this review would answer , seeing as he tried both. I'm probably going with Salomon first seeing as I can find deals a lot easier online for them, Lowa never seems to have sales or discounts ever?

The Salomon Quest is more comfortable, cushioned and breathable. It's the best thing Salomon make in my experience. But if I was looking for a higher end hiking or trekking boot then Lowa has some great options and Salomon doesn't. The Camino Evo GTX is an amazingly sturdy and durable boot for serious mileage. I'd also look at the Mammut Trovat II Guide.

    • @okthen22ok
      @okthen22ok 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@sdemosi ever try the winter quest boots? looking at those hoping to catch a deal, also looking at baffin crossfire or snow monster boots. but if the quest is good in just none insulated, i'm guessing it would be a good for say o or so degrees. baffin making a great winter hiking boot called the borealis looking at that boot also. the borealis boot might be the best all purpose cold boot out there?

I have a pair of Lowa hiking boots, and last week while hiking in Norway the soles of both boots started to fall off within 15 minutes of each other. At the end they were only attached at the front tip. No matter what the cause of the problem, the manufacturer is responsible and ought to replace a faulty product. If they use a material that is inapropriate for the purpose (of hiking once or twice a year), they should not use that material. Period. I will not buy Lowa again!

@@CDNFF82 where did you see that they have a 5 year warranty? On their site I only saw info on a 1 year warranty, which is my main concern since I've recently had a few different pair of boots catastrophically fail just past their 1 year warranty. If Lowa has a 5 year warranty that makes my choice of new boot a lot easier.

  • @radicalindividual7774

Massive disappointment. Use anything other than the LOWA 3-folded t-shirt insoles, and your foot goes from having MAYBE 1 inch of Back Heel space, to 3/4 inch of heel space with any sort of quality insole. Merrell, Red Wings, and another brand I've rubbed the name off and forgot, none solve the issue. IMMEDIATE red heels, and anything other than a small hike results in bad rubbing and blisters. The bottom of the boot starts WAY, WAY, WAY too high up compared to where it starts to hold your ankle. They also designed the shoe to be so thin at the toe box that the reinforced left, and right side for the laces leave the weaker middle to cram and fold directly into your toes. Then, send it out with an insole so cheap it feels like you're walking on hardened rubber. Because you are. This won't be solved without significant wear, because the quality is high, and these areas have TWO LAYERS of leather to soften on the outer sides.

I'll tell you what Ben I bought a pair of Renagade mid in size 15 and forgive me but this hiker is a piece of junk IMO. After 3 years of minimal use the soles are now cracked and seperating from the shoe. Like you I paid just over 250.00, now for me that's the most I've ever paid for hikers. I went online to inquire about having the soles replaced, I was told by the company rep that they have a inherent problem wth the soles detaching, and it cannot be repaired. The rep told me her pair had the sole detach and crack while she was hiking. So my review people... Don't bother get a pair of Colombia hikers
