Nice take on the product. Love it as we do sometimes spend way to much time out there and this definitely makes a session way more productive 🎉

    Fantastic video Mark.
I had the pleasure of borrowing some kid from FD to learn foiling from scratch and I was hooked from the start.. Now I just have to get good enough to go foiling with them!

Nice video and comprehensive message! I can identify with everything, to the point that I almost wish I didn’t watch it. The reason is I am on similar thoughts but reaching almost the opposite conclusion, which I am now hesisitating about might be wrong. I bought the FD+ gen 1 two years ago and it’s got me into foiling, pumping and practicing downwind on a prone board at a convenient distance from my house on a convenient time schedule. I am by no means proficient which I perhaps should become before ditching the FD. But I am also not fully enjoying the sport with the FD. I don’t like thinking about the battery running out, I don’t like thinking about charging and maintenence and that water might leak in and break such an expensive piece of gear and I don’t like the whole aspect of relying on a motor. So I ordered a custum downwind board. I look forward to the exercise and the feeling of ”doing it on my own” but perhaps I am kidding myself and there will just be a lot of suffering and very little time on foil. Perhaps gen 2 solves some of my issues with gen 1, e.g., not being strong enough to go upwind and running out of gas too soon and worrying about breaking (maybe). I will strech my economy and keep the FD+ gen 1 alongsidw my new downwind board and prone and try to evaluate what I prefer, but perhaps I should’ve just splashes out for the gen 2. Although in the end. What does other’s youtube videos provide us? I think most need to figure it out on their own in the end anyway because we’re all different.

I feel like dw sup and dw fd are two different sports; I still love the freedom of being on sup knowing the more effort I put in the more I get back, but the fd is equally cool in the options it opens up for getting straight into the bumps with almost no thought needed. I never used Gen1 so can't comment on upgrading, but sounds like you're on a path of learning to paddle dw and the newer dw boards and efficient foils will speed up your learning curve significantly - hopefully you won't go through the 18 month grind like I did! In the end you'll be better off knowing how to paddle dw as well as fd dw, there are too many options in this crazy sport!

@@mark.tipple Makes sense. It’s probably the best of two worlds if one can afford to keep both FD and a DW specific board in their quiver. I do think that contemporary gear will make things easier. I’m getting a rounded hull custom DW board at 8’10 length and a 13.4 AR front wing (Sabfoil leviathan pro) with specs similar to the Art pro 1401. Wish me luck! 💪💪
