When they were eating dinner it reminded me of the scene where Naruto & Sasuke were eating trying to see who can eat the most and they were both like "I want more" in the Land of Waves arc. Their relationship definitely reminds me of Naruto and Sasuke back in the OG Naruto early episodes.

Naruto doesn't necessarily trust kawaki but the reason he is taking care of him because he relates to him, just like how Naruto relates to Gara! Remember Gara?.. Kawaki reminds him of Gara and Naruto feels that what happened or what's happening to Kawaki is exactly what would've happened to him without Eruka or Jiraiya and what would've happened to Gara without Naruto because they all have the same thing in common which is a fucked up childhood and power that they didn't ask for because people will view them as monsters. From the village's prospective Kawaki is dangerous and unpredictable Shikamaru has the right to not trust him because he doesn't know what Kawaki went through.. But us as viewers we saw how his childhood was fucked up and you could definitely tell that he is not a bad person nor a villain he is more of a victim. And yes I know that he said in the first episode (I'll send you where I sent the seventh Hokage) But we still don't know what that means or even if that was really kawaki or someone else using him..
