  • For my last day in the Philippines, I went on a Filipino food tour to explore some of the best restaurants they have in Davao city. And I'm not a huge fan of durian, the king of all fruits, but because Davao is the durian capital I had to try some.

      I agree, i grew up knowing that way but now that am in western country my stomach learned to say no. When i ate pancit thats enough, no more rice he he he, when i ate burger and fries that's a meal already.

      @@EminenceGrease not just garlic fried rice. Make your coffee as your soup. Plain rice and fish paste or shrimp paste(bagoong). Soy sauce, milo, salt, sugar. These are the real meta.

      @@raymonddalusong2709 Probably bc they've been making that dish forever and it's more local orientated than for tourists. Often their menu is pretty limited but very good :)

    I have been living in the Philippines for the past 15 years and like you I love to travel and EAT. Batangas province takes pride on Bulalo, halo halo in Digman - Cavite province, tuna in Socsargen, sisig in Pampanga, chicharon in Bulacan, Lechon, depends on your taste (it's all over), longanisa, Ilocos or Quezon province,

    Next time you make a dipping sauce with soy sauce and calamansi, you should chop the chilis with a spoon or fork a bit, so the flavor of the chilis goes into the dip, instead of one big chili coming whole in your bites.

      Here in Brazil we eat eyeballs too (not all the younger generation though) but ive never heard of tuna sperm???? Maybe because we mostly eat other fishes and tuna is only canned... idk

    Thank you for doing this Mike. We, Filipinos, need to see more of the Southern part of the Philippines in mainstream because Mindanao hasn’t been getting the feature it deserves. I hope this series jumpstarts a change of perspective to my fellow northern people.
    I myself haven’t been to Mindanao and this feature just made Davao on top of my to-go list. You might not realize it, but this one might actually have an impact to them younger pinoys.

    A lot of filipino dishes are meant to be eaten with rice. Especially meals with soups and sauces like that bulalo, pour that over the rice and have a good time.

    Tuna eyeballs... the cheapest cut of tuna, but in my town it's hard to get your hands on one because either the fish vendors keep it to themselves or someone has already bought it and made soup with it... it's my mom and brother's favorite part of the tuna, mine is the collar (grilled)

    The sour taste of the sinigang doesn't come from vinegar but from sour fruits like tamarind or kamias or tomato.

      The seeds are ok as long as you don't chew then if you want to you pair it with something sweet or salty so that you won't notice that you ate a calamansi seed
