It's not Urban Legend but is the real reason why it's called dirty ice cream. People used to call it Sorbetes but later on was popularized as dirty ice cream because when the guy who roams the streets starts ringing his bell, kids inside the homes would hear them from 50 meters away. Kids would bother their parents no end to buy them ice cream but because the parents didn't want to be disturbed from whatever they're doing in the house, they will reason out "it's dirty" because it's not made from the plants that make legit ice creams. They'd reason that it's just made from somebody's shanty or dirty place (which is partly true) and the parents would just promise their kids "I'll just buy you ice cream when we go to the mall.". So there you go. It's called dirty ice cream to dissuade kids so they won't be disturbed from their house chores.
