I held my breath when I saw the tire tracks stay in the path behind the gater. 😬
But all the grassy areas are looking wonderful!
It's hard to believe how much you've accomplished on this property in one short season! Not to mention with a newborn and preschooler in the house too! 😍
    Great job you two!

I know you have mentioned how you think we will grow tired of planting vids....but I have to say, 1st I luv em! 2nd as I grow and learn with your channel I understand more and understand better about what will apply to my garden...so the repetition of planting vids.... really is perfect and something I look forward to! 😘

There is a well established precedent indicating you can call something 'new' for as long as you like. In Great Britain they have what they call the New Forest, which Google tells me was established in 1079. So by that reckoning the winter coat I bought 8 years ago still counts as my new coat since I haven't needed to buy another one since. But the South Garden is nice; suggests afternoons featuring sun hats and iced tea.

You do have a history of using directional names for areas. When you say " the west garden", I know exactly where you are referring to. I think we can get behind this trend as opposed to fussy names like " the giving garden".

There's a TH-cam channel called growing a greener world. One if the episodes(that I can't find) showed a man who added real wood chips from a shredder, not a bag, to improve his soil. In 5 years his soil is GORGEOUS. Your idea of layering compost is good. I would also add wood chips that have sat for 6 mos (to avoid nitrogen fixing).
Love your channel. You have So Much Energy!!!

The south garden is really coming together. (That’s a perfect name for it…south garden…more like the south acreage…soon to be the South Park. It’s starting to look like a park.) The grass is starting to look lush. Every time you film there is a marked improvement…greener and thicker. Such a huge accomplishment in such a short time. I really like those arbs…so cute and fluffy. I think Aaron will have to put the drone up frequently next spring to show all changes every week. It’s going to be amazing. Thank you for sharing and teaching us so much.

I really enjoy hearing the sounds their seed pods make in the wind. South garden is filling out nicely. Grass pathways are striking against the beds. It will be some show this spring.

One of the main things I take away from you is "if you don't love it, remove it!" We moved into our property 2 years ago and the developer had planted some strange plants on a narrow bed alongside our driveway (too big when full grown and too many in a small space). I've really enjoyed challenging myself to not just live with them - I've moved some to other parts of the garden and given others away. I now enjoy the area every time I park my car! Thank you for giving me permission to take those things out and do something I love instead!

We just moved into a new build. The front yard was designed by the landscapers the builder hired and we had no say in any of it. It is very generic but fine. Our backyard is huge and just dirt/mud so that is our priority right now. Our front yard is good enough for now and probably will be for a few years before we make any changes but we won’t hesitate to remove and change what we don’t love! I don’t love the way it looks but I do love that it is done so it is staying😂.

I absolutely love the Tater Tots and have plans to add at least one to my small beds. I also love those Sunorita roses, but I shy away from roses because of the thorns - but the colors they produce are gorgeous. I can't believe you planted those Baptisias - I was just looking at them online the other night to fill some larger spaces I have...now I can wait a bit and see how they do for you. I am so loving how the South Garden is evolving for you. And I was so excited, yet holding my breath a bit when you drove on the grass pathway. You guys are amazing. Hi Laura! Love all that you bring us. Have learned lots from watching you. An FYI, I’ve grown baptisia for years - obviously an older variety, but those beautiful seed pods do produce lots of seedlings in my garden with a pretty strong taproot if you want to remove. Also, as they mature, they start to cascade onto adjoining plants so you need to stake or give them space. That is my experience so thought I’d share. The seedlings are a pain

I think you're right on target to spread the plants out in nice groupings and not just do the borders. I think I see your vision there as a real statement! Good eye, Laura! I'm just mesmerized by you work and enthusiasm! I've watched you every day since the beginning! You and a cup of coffee is my daily start up! I would like to see the update on the Italian Ice Roses... Thanks and great job!!!

Just an observation...I really enjoy watching you water in after planting and connecting to drip as well. I hope you don't think that we get bored of that, I sure don't. It just seems more complete to me. Anyone else want to weigh in? Regardless, I love everything you do, love watching the amazing progress you've made and look forward to every video each day! Thank you for your passion and inspiration!

The South Garden is really coming together! So we have the South Garden outer and inner loops and... the berry bed? I'm loving the pictures of those baptisia, I'll have to go read up on them.

I love Baptisia, but with their deeeeeep roots they don't transplant easily. You better be committed to where you plant them.
I cut off the seed pods shortly after blooms are spent because when I didn't I ended up with extra plants and not in a good spot. Did I mention they're hard to dig up?

You are so encouraging to us new gardeners. Never have I felt so inspired to look for and plant so many different plants. Although I’m in 10A and not sure what is the difference in your hot and dry climate compared to ours. We get plenty of high 90s. We don’t get much rain and it doesn’t snow here. I’m in the San Diego, Ca area but not close to the coast.
I would love another drip irrigation video though. Like drip irrigation for dummies.

We own a bull mastiff mix named Tater Tot, and the fact that there is a hedge that shares the same name makes me so happy. It was very amusing to hear you describe the plants, and where you put them with the image of my dog in my head. I will definitely be adding a few of those to our property next year, thank you for giving us the information of its existence!

Oh yes that powdery white native soil! I live in an area like that too, but grew up in totally different climates. I've never gardened anyway, and for years I was scared to even try in this weird white "soil". There were so many resources for humid or temperate climates, but it felt like I was watching cooking shows and their ingredients were just ones I couldn't get where I live. THANK YOU for showing me how to grow pretty things in this kind of climate, powdery white native soil and all! ❤️

I love Baptesia. It's one of those really stately-looking native perennials that fit into a formal landscape really well. They have that great vase shape and two tinted leaves with the slight blue and green. They do attract bees when they flower but it's the most bustling plant in the garden. It's mostly just bumblebees that work them because the flowers have to be opened manually by the bee and not all bees are good at that. Butterfly wise they're more of a host plant to a few of the smaller butterflies. So they'll lay eggs on the plant and you'll get the odd caterpillar but nothing that's known to defoliate the plant. I can't say I've ever noticed butterflies on the flowers.

The South Garden sounds like a good fit, for the space. You've gotta reserve "The New Property," for any actual new property, in the potential future. And, I'm loving the new Tater Tot arbs.

In 1995-96 I planted soil conservation service bur oaks, rocky mtn maples, blue spruce, Saskatoon service berries, and Austrian pines (all between 1-6” tall), and mail ordered Austree whips smaller than my pinky finger in what I call the North Forest and have almost the same plants in a South Forest in their respective North and South Pasture areas. 😂 Hard to see through the forest areas now, 26 yrs later!

The grass pathways REALLY make the space take shape. I can finally understand what the final vision is and how the space will flow. Question: How are you planning to create and maintain the edges for all of the grass? Is there a tool that will more efficiently do it every year or do you plan to edge by hand?
