He has a good point, what he is saying is that Shiva will exist and continue to exist whether we devote ourselves to him or not. Just like the sun comes up and goes down whether we notice it or not.
It is not our dedication and worship that allows Shiva to exist he just does.

First lets understand who GOD is. Shiva is eternal and supreme personality of Godhead. But people mistake him to be lord Maheshwara. Both are completly seperate. Shiva is GOD. He is Brahman. Also called Mahavishnu by vaishnavites and Shiva by shaivites. From Shiva was born Vishnu and from vishnu was born Brahma. From Brahma was born , lord Maheshwara. Shiva is pure energy and worshipped also in a form of a linga. Similarly adishakti is totally different from parvati.
Both maheshwara and sati/parvati are avatars of Shiva and Shakti. Shiva is God and Shakti is his rays or energy.
And yes Vishnu worships Lord Shiva and Maheshwara worships Lord Mahavishnu/Shiva.
