This is what makes baseball the greatest game on Earth. No matter what the score is, the game is never over until you get out 27 times. Until you get that 27th out, you have all the time in the world to come back.
What Makes it Even Sweeter is The Fact The Reds did it against Cleveland!!!,anytime Cincinnati can Beat The Mistake by The Lake in Baseball or Football Puts a Huge Smile on My Face!!!
So true! Couple weeks ago my O's rookie Kyle Stowers hits a 2 strike 2 out game tying homerun off Chi-Sox closer after he popped up 2 pitches previously where LF dropped in foul ground. It went from a 1-0 White Sox shutout to 1-1 into extras where Birds prevail. Had 26 outs, 2 strikes and the last out fell from the defenses glove..27th out came too late but that's the beauty of baseball!
That Cleveland bullpen got torched all summer long. When Wickman lost the closer role, they tried a closer by committee which didn’t work. Then Fausto Carmona blew like four saves in one week and finished 1-10; of course, he recovered nicely as a starter the next season, but you had to feel for the guy. Every team was licking their chops when the games were late that year facing the Tribe.
Alex Weaver They started out like a house on fire the first week of that season and then it all came unglued. So much promise for a team that just narrowly missed the playoffs the year before with an elimination on the last day.
This was an awesome game. I was at my moms when I watched this. My brother and I watched this on tv when it aired. We’re both now adults, but this game brings back such warm memories, especially this inning.

When your pitcher is struggling in the 9th, you don't just keep him in there like he's gonna all of a sudden start pitching good. Eric Wedge is a bonehead.
Absolutely agree. Couldn’t believe it. Wickman was completely gased. Couldn’t throw a strike to the lower half of the lineup and you keep him in to face Dunn???? Wow.

Back then the Reds were garnering a large crowd despite the losing seasons. I think the absurdly high ticket prices of today make sure that doesn't happen. If Reds ownership lowered the prices, they'd increase profits substantially. Oh and if you think Reds tickets are high, you should see the prices at say, an Atlanta Braves game. They are f**king insane.
The crowd was huge that night because it was a fireworks Friday and it was against the Indians. Baseball tickets are far cheaper than any other Big 4 sport.
@@TheBatugan77 I went to a Angels game against Boston when Wade Boggs was with Boston. I didn't think prices was bad at all . I didn't mind the location either, right off the 55 freeway and across the street from Honda arena and across from that is Disneyland. Reds throughout the 2000's always had talented lineups but bad pitching and even worse bullpens. Unfortunate that adam dunn had to wait until literally the last game of his career to get to the playoffs and didnt even get to play
This is one of the best sporting events I have ever been to live. Next might be seeing the reds clinch after the drought. Then was just lucky enough to see Elly steal 3 bases in Milwaukee this year.
Apparently there are unwritten rules about running the score up in baseball and not continuing to be aggressive while you are up. But this proves that you should never stop laying it on. Not over til it’s over.
It's unfortunate how bad their broadcasts are now given how good they were in those days with Sanders and Manning, not to mention Jack Corrigan and Mike Hegan on 43. Underwood and Knott think it's their personal comedy show now.
Wickman had all those saves in 2005 and then in 2006, he started aiming the ball more instead of trusting his pitches, trusting his defense, etc. The Indians bullpen in 2006 blew a lot of leads that year. Betancourt gave up 2 HR's in the 8th this game. He wasn't a bad pitcher, but he only had 3 pitches and his 4 seam was very much hittable unless he could blow it by you on occasion.
Of course biggest comeback will always be D-Backs 6-run 10th, but this one is very nice too, specially since they had to get a nice 8th inning for it to work.
Imagine all the fans getting up and leaving after the lead off hitter in the bottom of the 9th was retired and missing this. Baseball is the greatest game ever!
When a pitcher walks two runners in a row and loads the bases with the tying run, and has the winning run at the plate, it's time to pull the pitcher, especially when he is a right hand pitcher against a left hand power-hitter. If I was the Indians' owner, I would have fired the manager after this game. What an idiot! You can't fix stupid. Love it, though, because I'm a Reds' fan.
