Did The NEW Roof Collapse?

  • Here is the final video in this series on the 1998 Winnebago Chieftain roof replacement. I did jump around a bit as the lamination and tucking has been seen so many times on this channel. Any fear or uncertainty expressed in this video is real, I set up a camera when removing the support in order to determine if the roof sagged excessively. Happily, the footage just looks like a still shot with almost no movement.
This was definitely a bigger project than I intially started out to do, but I am overall pleased with the results. Thank you to everyone that has been following along on this repair.
Please inspect any RV roof before you purchase and definitely once a year afterward.
    Thank you for watching!

Put another notch in your battery-powered caulking gun James. Your roofing skills never cease to amaze me. This is one for the books though, as the first video really had me concerned whether or not this was the roof that might have been a bigger bite than you could chew.
Your integrity is what drives you James. That is rare in this day and age. Thank you for doing what you do. You turn hopeless situations into hope-filled solutions.
I will be praying about your move. Hopefully, you won't have to move, but if you have to move I am praying it will be a blessing in disguise.
Outstanding & most incredible work James. This series, as well as most of your repair and maintenance videos ought be part of the RV Training Institute's recommendation for those who are interested in advanced repair and maintenance service as a profession, because the industry needs more James' in the world.

So glad to see your work ethic. There are a lot of others who would literally scab a repair together for someone and take their money.
I try to do my own repairs myself. I am a 35 year journeyman diesel mechanic. And while that’s not an RV tech. , it does afford me quite a bit of knowledge that does cross over, and also helps me to understand the basics of how these things are built.
I’ll turn ya on to something great though, so I work on Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks, and have visited the factory in Ohio several times to see how the trucks are built. And Paccar has this glue they use to literally glue body panels together to form a cab. It’s called T2000 glue.
This stuff is stronger than a weld. There have been accidents where the cab of the truck has been badly damaged, and you’d think the seams where the glue was used would fall apart in a bad accident.
    They don’t.
    Ever.
The cab panels, whether they be fiber glass or aluminum, will break or tear next to the seams, but the seams NEVER break.
It might be a product to research or look in to.
Either way, thank you for the videos and the advice you provide for all of us.

I have an 89' Chieftain 28. I can't complain about the workmanship on a 30+ year old RV. Mine has an aluminum roof that is completely leak proof. I guess it was an upgrade when new and I'm glad the original owner spent the extra money.

Certainly reminds me of the old saying “lipstick on a pig”. I’d love to know this guys reasoning fir dumping thousands of dollars on a new roof when the interior ceiling is rotted and there’s serious delamination in the exterior walls. And who knows what else is wrong with it.
I’ll bet James learned a valuable lesson not to price quote a job without actually laying eyes on it.
He is however a true professional doing a Grade A job on that rig and sticking to the quoted price even though the job required lots more work then originally thought.

      @SpykersB ปีที่แล้ว

Well I don’t really understand those of you who keep asking is it worth to fix it? because do you have any idea the cost of a new one? Being this is a diesel, we don’t know the condition of the chassis n motor, more likely its got a lot more life yet, but even so, yeah it would cost considerably more than the cost of the repairs to replace it all. 🍻

Here's what I'm wondering though. Thankfully you didn't agree to repairing the inside and the ceiling work. If you had agreed to repair the inside, how do you go about doing that?? That seems like a pretty impossible job given how it's all put together. The outside makes sense being able to tear it all off and start over, but inside with everything attached to the ceiling, how is that possible? If it's simple enough to briefly explain, it would be great to understand how you'd go about that process.
