It only applies to people who worked their 40 work quarters paying into Social Security but instead of getting 100% what they paid into they're only getting about 30%. They're being penalized and money is being stolen from them and that's why the bill passed for WEP and GPO to be repealed.
These people are not double dipping or stealing from the government, they are the ones being stolen from and the only reason that Social Security will run out of money sooner is because it's finally paying what it should have been paying to everybody all along.
It's kind of like you go out and you buy a steak dinner but when you get the dinner you don't get the steak but you still have to pay full price.
People who worked in both the private sector and the public sector have every right to get their full Social Security benefits just like people who only worked in the private sector.

This is NOT being explained correctly! The SS benefits that were PAID into are REDUCED UNFAIRLY. So if you qualifed for paying in for say 20 years they cut your EARNED money as if you only paid in say 10
years. What was the point of working all the extra years paying into SS if they never saw part of their benefits? They would have been better off by working only in one system not two. Most workers didn't even know this until they tried to retire! If they had known they would have certainly done it differently!!!!
    THUS THE FAIRNESS ACT.
Other SS recipients were receiving the benefits they should have gotten to start with!

What most people are failing to understand is the fact that the people that are entitled to the benefit of the Social Security Fairness Act are the people who worked the full or more 40 work quarters paying into Social Security. Sometime within their work years they also worked as a public employee in a position that did not pay into Social Security. These people when they reach the age to draw their social security are penalized and only receive about 30% of what they should have received if they had not been a public employee.
In other words they were being robbed of their benefits. This act only corrects that and gives them back their full 100% benefits.

These people worked in the private sector and paid into it for the 10 years or 40 work quarters and earned the right to receive their full Social Security benefits just like anybody else. The fact that they also worked in the public sector should not penalize them.
People who only worked in the private sector get their full Social Security once they have enough work credits. And that's fair. But having worked in the private sector in earning those same work credits but only getting 30% of the benefits is not fair.
So the Social Security Fairness Act corrects that. Nobody's getting anything that they're not entitled to but they are going to start getting what they were entitled to and didn't get.

    • @veronicamarquez276
      @veronicamarquez276 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Has SS been stealing 2/3 of everyone's benefits like they have been doing to the 2.8 million hard working Americans? They are 'chosen' because they were 'chosen' to be stolen from. This Act stops the stealing and gives that group the benefitsthey EARNED but never received. But it will only go back one year. I know people who have had over $100,000 stolen from them.

The only people that were being robbed are the people who qualify for this Fairness Act because they paid into Social Security 100 % yet instead of getting 100% of their benefits they only get 30%. So now once it's signed they'll finally start getting their full amount so that's why Social Security might run out of money sooner because they're actually going to finally be paying these people the amount they should have been paying them all along. However it's only a year retroactive instead of the 40+ years that the SSA has been stealing from them.

@@Pope9876technically we still have to work the 40 work quarters into Social Security to qualify to receive Social Security. However the WEP makes it so that instead of getting 100% of the Social Security benefits that we paid into we only get about 30% of it. And that's not fair because we paid into Social Security the required amount for full benefits but we're not getting full benefits. We paid into a public pension, and we shouldn't be penalized for that.
Some people say oh but you guys are a public pension make so much money. That is incorrect as my it's called an industrial disability benefit and it is at poverty level. My social security benefit pays for my forced Medicare (yes the government forces you to enroll in Medicare once you hit 65 if you don't have any other insurance and I don't have any other insurance because I haven't seen a doctor in over 20 years).

No. It's people who worked only private-sector jobs that are getting 100% of their benefit and a lot more. Public servants were having their Social Security benefits cut because their agencies paid into a separate retirement system. Imagine if you paid into Social Security for years, but also paid into a 401K, and SS cut your benefit because of your "other" pension plan. No good deed or amount of wise retirement planning goes unpunished...

So the people that retired with full pension and benefits for life paid for by the taxpayers get an extra 40% increase in their social security paid by taxpayers. In the meantime those of us who were self employed, made nothing while employing others get a COLA. In addition if you were stupid enough like me to be a second career guy in ministry you spent tens of thousands to get a 4 year degree and a Master's to make 30 grand a year helping people. Now had I become a social worker my school debt would be erased and I'd also get a pension from the government. Instead after paying on my student loans for 20 years I owe 2o grand more than I originally owed and I get a whopping $1470 to live on every month before the $560 school loan. I can do whatever I want with the other $910. I can eat and live indoors if I keep my expenses including food, rent, insurance, clothing, medicine, car, fuel etc to below $30/day. Makes 51 years of working seem well worth the effort.
