    First and foremost you have to locate the crappie school

    • @TurnerFishingg
      @TurnerFishingg  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thats what most don't understand they are everywhere but if your not scoping you gotta find a school of them.

      Completely agree, Crappie love structure and shade are quick tips for searching. The hardest is open structure less water in which they tend to school off edges and points for bait fish. The hotter the top surface of the water the deeper and closer to channels they school in slack areas. Many people confuse bait balls on sonar with bait fish. It's always safe between to fish bait clusters because there's usually some type of predator fish close. Hope this helps my fellow southern fishermen.

    Thank you for your tips I’ve had very little experience with jigs I have caught a few but not much I should do more to learn thank for giving me some ideas on how it’s done .minnows has been the bait I’ve used.

    • @TurnerFishingg
      @TurnerFishingg  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Minnows are great but over the past few years I've watched a minnow swim above a brush pile and they don't do anything but drop that jig down there and they smoke it. But some days its the same for the jig haha

    I got a acc crappie stix, 6 .5, its just a little too stiff for me. shoots docks good though, i'm using one of them reels also, mine is the 1000, I like the reel. i like 1/32 head most of the time. good video, I hadn't used minnows in about 15 years...10 years ago we used to kill the crappie in the winter time on murray. i dont fish murray as much now.

    • @TurnerFishingg
      @TurnerFishingg  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah all the accs i have besides the 5,6 is 2 stiff. 1000 idk feels like a bass reel for me im so use to the smaller reels

    Great video. I love that thump that you get from fishing a jig. Do you think having a heavy weight 1/4 to 1/2 oz above your jig hurts you from feeling a lighter bite? For vertical fishing of course.

    • @TurnerFishingg
      @TurnerFishingg  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on how light the bite is or if your using braid. When I use that setup I'm normally watching them come up so I feel alittle more that way but I would say it wouldn't be as good as just a jig. I have a few 1/8 jigheads I make for myself if the bite is super light

    I was just curious I am a 64-year-old man that grew up on the Mississippi river around New Madrid fission for Croppie vertical and pitching with 9 to 12 foot rods now live in the Ozarks For the last 20 years and I want to learn how to cast a 1/32 ounce jig what rod would you recommend?

    • @TurnerFishingg
      @TurnerFishingg  ปีที่แล้ว

      For just starting i would go with a 6,6 one with a snappy tip so thr 1/32 will go out. I personally use a 5,6 but I like little rods and can get around 30-40 feet without a spilt shot

    I have the Piscifun 500 as well. I called Piscifun and asked if they could make a deeper spool for the 500 to hold more line, and they said no. They said they made the reel for Ice Fishing. They should have made it for Crappie fishing.

    • @TurnerFishingg
      @TurnerFishingg  ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a good reel but yeah I agree with the deeper spool what I do is not put alot of line so it doesn't wind knot so bad. They was suppose to send me a ice reel but its been months so guess not haha I was gonna put it on my long pole

    • @Byron4RollTide
      @Byron4RollTide ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TurnerFishingg Piscifun should sell the reel with 2 spools. One for Crappie and one for ice fishing.

    Lol, literally 80% of good bass are caught under the surface. It's fun to catch them on top water but reality is 5 to 10 feet under by structure and definitely closer to the bottom than on top.

    • @TurnerFishingg
      @TurnerFishingg  ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe on a shad lake. I live in south carolina we got herring them fish don't know what a bottom is 90%of the year

  • @ronalddills4566
    @ronalddills4566 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another great example of how to catch crappie . Another technique is to tight line over top of a brush pile. When you throw your jig leaving the bail open allowing the jig to fall straight down. Would like to fish with you sometime 😊

    • @TurnerFishingg
      @TurnerFishingg  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes sir I love use the wind and pushing above the brush and just hold it tight and let the wind push me over the brush. And if your local email me let's set it up

    You just stated that you were not sponsored by anyone, yet you just said that Pacifun just sent you a couple of reels the other day to try out, which you "just by chance" have on your rod to promote. Not that I care, but please get your facts straight beforehand because it makes you look untrustworthy.

    • @TurnerFishingg
      @TurnerFishingg  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not, they sent me that reel yes months ago. I also don't like acc as they only cater to the bigger channels but here I am promoting because that's the only good small rod I own at the moment same with the reel.

    • @jonnathankirby3810
      @jonnathankirby3810 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sponsored means they PAY you to use their stuff and promote it. Jus sending you a free reel to try out is not sponsorship, only opinion. He shows the reel because it is the one he likes at the moment. No quid pro quo here man.

      Never seen the need. I want my jig to sink as slow as I can get and fluorocarbon sinks alot faster. Maybe if you fish a crystal clear lake I would go for it.
