@@greatbriton8425 I’m not sure I fully agree with that. You said it was not by faith that she hid the spies. But that just begs the question, by what did she hid the spies then? By her faithlessness? Moreover, you are drawing a sharp dichotomy between her faith and hiding the spies, but the verse doesn’t do that. In fact, the verse explains her faith *in terms of* hiding the spies. Great discussion, Sam was going easy on the young pastor, Sam humbly trying to show the pastor some good stuff, but the pastor have some pride issues he have to deal with. Tank you Sam for your patience, all for the glory of JESUS CRIST
It is a little bit frustrating for a liturgical Christian like myself, familiar with the old rites, first Christians, Church Fathers, etc. to try and listen to J.D. not having done a bit more homework on the first 4 or so centuries of the Church. The points he is starting over the first 20 minutes are wrote. When Sam was using 2 Timothy, that should have encouraged J.D. to amend his point at least on the "gates of Hell" only to the apostles point. It makes him come across as less sincere than I believe he is. Questioning the Church Fathers like Polycarp who was specifically taught and placed by the apostle John takes some real lack of self-analysis. I wonder if he's read St. Ireneaus? St. Ignatius? St. Athanasius? St. Basil or St. Cyprian? Would they make a difference to him or would he instead prefer his own inclinations? The Bible is very obviously not simple, especially 2 millenia and 3000 miles away from the original audience. I defer to the ancient bishops of the Church over my own judgement of the Gospel. I am a Catholic.
And as a Catholic, do you not believe great deal of things, that not only don't agree with, but directly contradict Church fathers? Maryology, for example. So in a world, where both Protestants, Orthodox and Catholics disagree with the First Church teachings, using disagreement with Church fathers as a sign of a lack of humility is a very dangerous thing.

You all who were raised in apostolic churches, I don't think you know the depth of insanity that goes on in some Protestant churches. I've heard things from Protestant pastors that would turn your blood cold. I had a pastor tell me once that God hates most of the human race, and "the world" in John 3:16 refers to vegetation on planet earth. I've heard a teacher teach that dead babies of unbelievers go to hell but dead babies of Christians are "clean" and thus saved. I've heard a pastor say divorce is God's will because a marriage that ends in divorce was predestined that way and therefore hadn't been binding before God. Just a few examples off the top of my head. If you think this Pastor JD is unreasonable, you aint seen nothing yet.

Martin is showcasing the reason why there should be an age limit on becoming a pastor(at least 40 imo). I do understand his thought process because when I was 25 that’s how I thought before I learned church history. The facts are in scripture, no one cares about what you personally think.
Agreed. He fundamentally did not understand the Nicean council at all. He really needs to understand it and not just have the baptists talking points about it only.
Arians literally made the same arguments he did at their heretical councils. "The third Council of Sirmium, in 357, was the high point of Arianism. The Seventh Arian Confession (Second Sirmium Confession) held that both homoousios (of one substance) and homoiousios (of similar substance) were unbiblical and that the Father is greater than the Son."

The wording of the Nicaean/Constantinopolitan Creed is just Acts 2? This creed was labored and fought over in the early 4th century. It WAS NOT prima facie, if was to delineate what was true teaching from false, dealing with of course Arias but also Paul of Samasota and his false baptisms. J.D.'s willingness to come on is commendable, but he seems very young in his study of the faith. I hope that he continues to follow the commands of Christ Jesus and is filled with the Holy Spirit.
Even if he says it’s constructed from Acts 2, that only supports the Catholic/Orthodox position. Since the Fathers who created the Nicene Creed all believed in baptismal regeneration, then this means the early Church saw Acts 2 as teaching the same. That gives our interpretation ancient support and means the Protestant one is novel.
Sam, my brother. I'm a protestant and I would love to have this same conversation with you. I listen to your show and have benefitted and learned a ton. Love you man. I don't think this brother did a great job. 1 hour in and so far it seems like JD comes to a conclusion within the first 2 seconds of each sentence Sam says and completely ignores the actual points Sam makes, which has lead to JD constantly strawmanning i think literally every single argument Sam has put forward. It's actually very irritating to listen to.
I commend the patience and grace brother Sam exhibited in this discussion. It was frustrating how many straw-men Martin used in this discussion and how he came into this his with fixed protestant/ antiCatholic beliefs until he was pressed to finally open the Bible and see what scripture said rather than his opinions or private interpretations, which became very telling once the Bible was opened. Typical Calvinistic/ protestant habit of reading scripture through that lens and avoiding biblical exegesis, rather letting scripture speak for itself. To try to skirt around or appeal to Greek to wax eloquent when his position backfires in light of proper exegesis was frustrating. He came in with his objections against the creeds, with his false assumptions against the creeds even though he couldn’t prove this clearly due of his limited knowledge on the subject. Glory to God that brother Sam was gracious and didn’t go for the juggler. I hope he rewatches this and sees his flaws and corrects them on his journey out of Calvinism and in other future discussions. As a protestant on a journey myself I can relate fully with the demeanour and anti Catholic objections. I urge protestants to take off their protestant lenses and study the rich history of the early Church to learn and appreciate the early church traditions, including the fathers, why the ancient churches reject sola scriptura and believe what they believe. This was my starting point.
I don't think Protestant or Catholicism matters because at the end, Jesus is the One matters. Even a guy with no religion (That died on cross beside Jesus) is also saved believing Jesus.
This is such a beautiful discussion between brothers in Christ. Thank you Sam for your patience with the brethren and thank you to the other young man for your passion 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Catholics have false teachings like believing Jesus is actually present in the eucharist, making Sunday mass obligatory when no where in Bible it says so, creating graven images and Bowing down to them breaking the ten commandmenments, praying to dead, confessing to Priest, believing penance will take away sins without repentance, baptizing child when he has no knowledge of Jesus, etc.

It wasn't his presupposition. The Gospel directly states it. James the brother of Jesus restates it, Paul, and it's also taught by Paul to both the Gentiles and Jewish converts. Sam was arguing regarding what Faith is/ means and accidentally rejecting the definitions used by Paul in Romans, Galatians, and Ephesians. Easy solution: the children are required to be OBEDIENT to their parents. So, yes, faithful in that they are actively obedient (obeying) the parents. Therefore faithfulness in being obedient in an active sense.
Definition of faith given in Scripture is in Heb. 11:1: "faith is assurance of things we hope for, convictions of things we do not see." 1 Tim 4:10 says: " ... the living God, who is the Saviour of all people, especially those who believe". Salvation is not limited only to those who believe but it does not mean everybody will be saved either.

This was frustrating to watch, JD seemed to answer without listening. Then when he is forced to listen changes the topic. Growing pains. Sam it was cool to see you move through the various switches and always references back to scripture regardless of where the conversation went. Hopefully he will soon learn the 'ego is the enemy". Blessings to you brother, and to the people that support the work that you do.

Praise God, we have The Church to turn to, as we see here. God bless the both of you.
I hope that this young man will go back and listen to this debate and understand the sloppiness of his performance and that he will come to the understanding of the Truth, as preached by the Apostles and their followers. It is so sad to see people entangled in their own pride, without the ability to recognize their mistakes.
Lord, have mercy. The J.D. guy is trapped within false dialectics and rationalizations to tenuously cling onto his erroneous presuppositions. It is such a relief to be a part of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Orthodox Church, leaving the chaos and confusion of Protestantism behind.
J.D. would have to give up his career and livelihood to accept the truth. Many pastors have done it because they understand truth and eternity are more important than their career in a heretical sect.
There is none righteous no not one, not Mary, not Noah, no one. If God would keep certain people from all sin, then why would He not just keep us all from sin? Also what is the point of keeping Mary an immaculate virgin after Christ's birth? And if Mary were immaculate, and was assumed into Heaven, why does not scripture show that? Surely the canonical scriptures inspired and kept by God should have explicitly revealed such important points and events? But we don't get that teaching from any of the original disciples or apostles, we get them from later Church fathers, many of whom we know fell into heresies about purgatory, religious rites, prayer to saints, etc.
JD is the perfect example of why there are 33,000 different Protestant denominations in the U.S. that don’t agree on anything because they all have their own personal interpretations.
I can surely say Sam is blessed of the Spirit to teach! If you have ears of true discernment, you have to listen. Sam is a faithful servant, but don't believe in Sam believe in the saving grace of God.
Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin . Only the Blood of Christ can cleanse us from sin . As a Full Gospel Spirit Filled Christian I will say that people who believe should be baptized but there isn't enough water in the entire universe to wash away sin .The only baptism that counts is being baptized into the body of Christ it is a spirit baptism not water baptism .Your dead spirit is born again by faith not works .
You are citing the Gospel, but others are promoting Thomas Aquinas who openly disagreed with Jesus, Peter ,Paul, and many of the early church fathers. Thomas promoted ideas that were condemned by the early church , including directly multiple popes and listed as great Heresies in "Adversus Haereses" from the 2nd century A.D.
Sam , because you search only for the truth, God grant you the truth. May God always bless you to be firm in the truth.

Sometimes I wonder if people think the devil dose have faith in God in the literal and simplistic meaning of faith ! Faith in the Context of the whole Bible (context of the typological revelation of salvation plan from Abraham to Jesus): Faith is like a wise man said like a pregnant word ! But again, you have to realize how debating with Bible Alone Christians is sadly as debating with Muslims, that simplistic and extremely literal understanding of the Bible is painful to witness, but that is also why God is great, it teaches you patience and love, the more you debate challenging behaviors-debaters the more you grow in Love and patience. Fruits of the gifts of the Holy Spirit ! Thanks a lot Samshamoun ! Praise God !
Is it only me but doesn’t anyone here notice how debating with Bible Alone Christians is very similar to debating with a Muslim? Because Sola Scriptura is actually inspired to reformers leaders by their Muslim professor of philosophy !
I respect your patience, Sam. People give you such a bad rep, but you proved your patience in this video. Praise God!! I feel bad for J.D. though. May the Holy Spirit help him see his blind sides and lead him to truth.
Faith is metaphysical, and faithfulness flows from it and is evidenced through action. Just like love is invisible, but physical acts of love show that love truly dwells in someone's heart. Hence why Jesus says "If you love me, you will keep my commandments", whats on the inside, is evidenced by outward action. Even though the outward actions is distinct from whats on the inside.
The moment Sam started studying Early Church Fathers and talking openly about it, some protestants went "We gotta win him back!". But this young pastor, oh boy, he has to learn a lot, and with humility, too, as some commenters have already pointed out. Not knowing the Church Fathers' writings is an unforgivable shortcoming on part of any Christian, mine included, as only recently I started reading their letters. And although it is hard not do agree with pastor Martin when he says he will face God to give account of his own faith, however relying on Luther and other reformers does not make it your own faith. As Sam emphasized, the earliest Church Fathers learnt from the Apostles. No reformer can trump that. Added on Feb. 16, 2024: And by the way, I have read a few books by the late Michael Heiser (who did not shy away from using Catholic priest-scholars' works in his writings), and I as a Catholic, appreciate very much his studies of gods, sons of God, etc. So I did smlie, too, when pastor Martin showed his, well, I guess his ingorance on the subject.
May the Spirit enlighten Pastor JD.....1 Samuel 16:7 " For the Lord does not see as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance , but the Lord looks at the HEART ". The thief on the cross can't do anything, he just believed in his Heart and Declared with his Mouth that Jesus is Lord & that God will raise him from the Dead..Yet the God Jesus joined him for three days in Hades (Abraham's Side/ Paradise)..."today you will be with Me in Paradise", says the Lord Jesus
NO BAPTISM DONE...JUST THE HEART THAT BELIEVES. BAPTISM WITH WATER IS SYMBOLIC...JUST ANOTHER WAY OF DECLARING THAT JESUS IS YOUR LORD & SAVIOR ..A DECLARATION NOT BY MOUTH BUT BY ACTION...AND THAT THE WORLD CAN NOW EXPECT FROM THE BAPTIZED THAT HE IS NOW A NEW CREATURE IN CHRIST.
But the Baptism with Fire/Holy Spirit is even more pleasing to God. Baptism with the Holy Spirit means Christ is already in you. Even Cornelius and his family got baptized with the Holy spirit ahead of Peter baptizing them with water which just translated as formality. Baptism with the Holy Spirit,, ie, a pure intention of a contrite Heart, is even more pleasing to God than mere ""Show-off but without the repentant heart"
Sadly this time I see Sam blaming the other brother for what he himself was doing: you are wrong and I am right before even listening to the argument. Well, nobody can have all right. In both definitions of faith he keeps saying that "my definition of faith" is the correct one and the one about faith being "believing" Is not biblical one. And I think the other brother has a point with faith meaning believing.

He's an awesome guy and I love how much he loves the lord...I believe the Lord is working on him through the holy spirit, I pray he gets out of his own way and let's the holy spirit truly lead and guide him to the truth. Thank you for your patience and compassion with this man and for the work you do in following God's call on your life.

Great discussion, Sam was going easy on the young pastor, Sam humbly trying to show the pastor some good stuff, but the pastor have some pride issues he have to deal with. Tank you Sam for your patience, all for the glory of JESUS CRIST
We are proud of you Sam; trust that Holy Spirit will guide you always. We pray for you, for your daughter and your family. Stay safe and be healthy
What a great point. Did John the Baptist suggest people get baptized we he was declaring that the Kingdom of God was at hand? What a joke.
@@Kvint-kh12345, the Council of Ephesus disagrees with you, as do a large number of the earliest writings we have from the fathers.

The same way you show love is through action, you show faith through the action. You must act to show faith, and not just by saying you have it. Sam, you make understanding the Bible very easy. I appreciate and enjoy the way you explain. May God continue to bless you and your good work.

Sam, you’re a blessing to all Christians, especially those of the Apostolic Churches ✝️🙏🏼
Very tiring when non-Orthodox/Catholic Christians get in the hypothetical weeds of when a person is saved -- and to what degree are the sacraments important. What event happened in the river with John the Baptist and Jesus?
@@AJ_Jingco Wow, I guess Jesus was lying to the thief on the cross! Since he didn't have a lifetime, he was a terrible person his whole life! Oh well, I hope he's enjoying hell?

The Pastor's most common phrase was "I think..." Opinions don't mean anything. He's already presupposing faith alone throughout the whole conversation without proving it
It wasn't his presupposition. He jumped into debate mode Rejecting Arminian doctrine as he was moving towards Catholicism and trying to protect his conversion. A fun discussion that accidentally became heated and changed to Soteriology. Good inspiration for us to continue studying the Word.

Apart from your rejecting Popes Paul VI, Benedict XVI, and John Paul II's public view of Protestants and Christendom, you also trashed Orthodox and Catholic Charismatics which was result of papal investigation confirming Protestant doctrine and the Evangelical Pentecostal movement was a true movement of the Holy Spirit. Believing is an action word!
Yes it certanly is. But is not your action, it’s Gods action (Joh 1, 12-13) The faith is something wich comes when the gospel is preached (Rom 10,17). Actions is born out of faith, but faith itself is no action of ours.

This was frustrating to watch, JD seemed to answer without listening. Then when he is forced to listen changes the topic. Growing pains. Sam it was cool to see you move through the various switches and always references back to scripture regardless of where the conversation went. I’m glad he was open to discussion nonetheless.
Sam, your patience with this young man was a real act of kindness but unfortunately, unless he is willing to approach the next conversation with you "with a humble heart" nothing will come out of it. Hopefully he will soon learn the 'ego is the enemy". Blessings to you brother, and to the people that support the work that you do.

If you notice the different way of talking between them, you really get to know who has the truth.
The pastor always starts by saying "i think" or "to me"
And Sam does not.
So its between what the protestant think and feel ,
And what the true church of Christ KNOWS.
God bless every brother & sister in Christ. We live in the 21st century and much like many a generation before us who were not able to learn at the Apostles feet or at the feet of those who did, so we are all on a journey that has many distractions and noise from some very proud people.

As a protestant myself i just witnessed the protestant brother argue himself out of his own arguments with the living word of God.
sam is extremely patient
Lord, have mercy. The J.D. guy is trapped within false dialectics and rationalizations to tenuously cling onto his erroneous presuppositions.
It is such a relief to be a part of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Orthodox Church, leaving the chaos and confusion of Protestantism behind.
The fact that you feel the need to say that exposes you as a babe in Christ.
J.D. would have to give up his career and livelihood to accept the truth. Many pastors have done it because they understand truth and eternity are more important than their career in a heretical sect.
The problem with these protestants is that they refuse to believe that Jesus created a church that even death shall not prevail against it.
I dont understand how just anyone can be a pastor. If he even is an actual pastor.
It’s not common a young brother makes me click off a video man. Bless you Sam for the patience it took for this discussion
As a Protestant evangelical, I find Sam's position more believable and more coherent. I agree with his position. Faith is all-encompassing.
33,000 different denominations? Could you simply list 3,300 or 10%?
I can surely say Sam is blessed of the Spirit to teach! If you have ears of true discernment, you have to listen. Sam is a faithful servant, but don't believe in Sam believe in the saving grace of God.
Sam this is why you do what you do and God has blessed you not only with intellect but also patience.
I love this discussion, i have learn a lot.
Sam is a black belt in apologetics.
Many protestants already have their bias, prejudices from their family background when they grow up , so the truth is not what they look for. They try to find in the Bible whatever saying, verses fit their bias. Thank to Jesus Christ who look into your heart and bring you to the truth through Holy Spirit.
May God always bless you to be firm in the truth.
Protestantism is to go in little circles. And make tradition fit what a man not long ago said. That's what I get from this intent of conversation.
The pastor must get to grips with the fact that if the Church Father's are right,he is wrong, and the Church Father's were guided by the Holy Spirit.
Were the Church Father's guided or misguided by the Holy Spirit?
So Pastor where does this leave your belief?
This is the most patient I’ve ever seen Sam lol 😂
J.D. please stop tap dancing. The Apostolic Faith proceeded Protestantism by centuries.

Just watching this now...something not spiritually right with this young man..sounds like when Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Saviour of The World was tempted in the wilderness...remember you know the devil knows scripture...I hope and pray that he finds The Truth only God knows if he is sincere.
Sam I have been watching you since your Protestant days.. I’m catholic ❤️

As a Baptish Sam's argument is what i accept, the Pastor thinks that the Gospel is grammer
The Pastor keep saying (in my opinion). we are NOT interesting in your opinion, we are interesting in FACTS.
I am Catholic and i very much appreciate your respect in a world where Catholism is catching a beating from other Christian sects.
God bless you Sam, you have a lot patience…he talks too much and doesn’t listen😢
I don't think God would make it this hard to know. Abraham was granted all, without all this argument. He had faith in the father and lived as such.
BAPTISM WITH WATER IS SYMBOLIC...JUST ANOTHER WAY OF DECLARING THAT JESUS IS YOUR LORD & SAVIOR
..A DECLARATION NOT BY MOUTH BUT BY ACTION...AND THAT THE WORLD CAN NOW EXPECT FROM THE BAPTIZED THAT HE IS NOW A NEW CREATURE IN CHRIST.
