Dude THANK YOU! Just tried it and that did the trick! Now I'm wondering how it got to that point in the first place? Maybe I was testing something and didn't think to reverse the change? Either way I'm just happy I can fire up retro titles again because I was hoping to capture some Prince of Persia The Sands of Time footage the other day and had to lean on trailer footage for the remake when I referenced it in an upcoming pickups video :)
@@YourPlayer2 Haha, nice! I've done the same thing myself. It's especially confusing when you do it on a game that has linux/windows version and you end up wondering why your save files have disappeared
Fun comparison! I think we can get hung up on brands and our own ideas and expectations but it is important to remember it’s ok to play any system as long as you are having fun
Glad you dig it, dude! And agreed- Gaming communities can be pretty fiercely tribal but I haven't really been a fanboy for any one manufacturer since...I was about 13 and staunchly defending the N64 and Nintendo until Silent Hill and MGS pulled me over to the PS1 :p
I've had a Steam Deck since September of 22 and I have yet to feel any kind of rumble. I owned a Switch Lite for 3 years and loved it, but the screen caused my eyes to burn and I had to upgrade to a Switch OLED in about October. They both have great features but in my opinion, the Deck wins hands down. However, the Switch has access to seemingly nearly all of the Steam indie game catalog and depending which sales are better, you can buy accordingly. I sometimes buy games for both platforms (if the discount is steep enough) to compare and contrast. The library of impossible ports on the Switch is remarkable. Crysis 1-3 Remastered, Doom 2016, Doom Eternal, Ace Combat 7, The Witcher 3, and many more are impressive given the hardware restrictions. I'm hoping the Switch 2 has a better eShop that operates like the Steam store, enough RAM to allow for quick resume of at least two games like Xbox Series, Hall effect thumbsticks, and upscaling of Switch 1 titles.
Oh weird? I will admit it's more subtle than the HD Rumble of the Switch but I've noticed it in certain games at least. That's one of the nicest parts of being a multiplatform gamer isn't it? Deal hopping not just between marketplaces on PC but entire platforms :p And AREED on the impossible ports- That was like my FAVORITE thing about it early on and just playing Skyrim on the Switch blew my mind in the early days! I even beat Doom 2016 on the Switch port (still need to finish Eternal though). And no joke on the eShop- That thing needs BUFFED and here's hoping they upgrade it a bit in time for the Switch 2.
I had a ROG Ally that I recently sold. Ultimately after owning it for a year, I decided to go with my Switch, much for all the reasons of this video. The reason I decided (for now) not to go with a Steam Deck was because I didn't like how loud the ROG Ally got when being pushed, and apparently the Steam Deck fans are even louder. And, honestly, I was tired of tinkering with game settings. I just want to turn it on and play. I don't want to think about settings at all. Lastly, I didn't like how warm/hot the device got in my hand. Handheld PC's are awesome, I just don't think we're there yet for me. I grew up with a gameboy. I need my handheld experience to be just as simple and seamless.
I still keep mine around, mostly for beefier titles like playing Spider-Man and whatnot but it gets VERY little play compared to the Deck (obviously :p) Nice to see someone else who grew up on the OG gameboy! For simple and seamless it's hard to beat a Nintendo handheld :)
I truly *LOVE* the Switch but I am absolutely dreading going back to the cramp inducing form factor for the handheld side of the Switch 2 since there's seemingly no real improvement. I can't speak much for the Lite outside trying one out for a short 20-30 minutes (where I had horrible hand cramps because of the size and layout)
It's hard to beat Nintendo's raw charm! I can't tell from the trailer video if the new system is THAT much bigger or not but I guess we'll find out soon since it's dropping later this year! But yeah, for me the Lite is mostly my run-out-the-door system so far were I might play it while waiting for a movie to start or something ya know? For extended play I'd probably still fall back on the docked OLED with the Pro Controller (which is pretty comfortable!)
The 2 looks like the ergonomic part of the provided controller will be able to click in and out of the back. Hoping that is true and the bigger size will be cool for a hori pad or some such.
@@YourPlayer2also I’m amazed I felt the pull to get a lite and after I ordered found your video posted a few days ago. Seems backward compatibility of the new system was a good selling point of the lite.
The switch lite screen is just too small. Even the switch oled screen is too small. I am getting older and need a bigger screen and larger controls for my less than nimble hands. After buying the steamdeck, I gave the switch to my kid, who turned it into a stardew valley machine. I am hoping for an 8 inch steamdeck. I feel that could be the perfect screen size. At least until the 8.6 inch version.
Oh good insights! (no pun intended) 👓. I didn't even think of that as a consideration but good point on the screen being a point of contention for those with less-than-stellar eyesight. I can't wait to see what Valve cooks up next on the hardware front and ironically that's what a couple of the upcoming videos are all about :)
Love this !! Real world comparisons. I actually have the same Hyrule Switch lite. (Ok ok. I have 5 other Switch Lites as well. It’s a long story) I have quite large hands, so it’s not an ideal system for me, and as you noted, thumbstick placement…. However, add a Satisfye grip, and I find myself taking the Lite with me far more than the Steamdeck. I also picked up a ROG Ally, mainly for the same comparison game. I prefer it to the Steamdeck for travelling. Although prefer the Steamdeck for home use, when docked at least. All in all a great time for gamer tech dorks like myself 😆 And yep, I now get your comments from earlier about the Switch Lite 👍🏻
I'm glad you enjoyed it! And man that Hyrule edition was just so pretty I couldn't help myself :p Can you link me the grip you're talking about? I'd love to see if it works for me too! As for the Ally I still keep it around but usually only bust it out for beefier titles and just for casual play around the house. Hehehe glad my prior comment makes sense now 😛
This video is so weirdly timed. This week I've just ordered a Switch Lite to get back into the switch catalogue and play some of the games I have missed since selling my original switch. Excited to see how it compares now I'm so used to using the Steam Deck form factor
LoL a little eerie but hope you enjoy your new Lite! aAny particular titles you're most looking forward to? For me I'm hoping to try that new Zelda game where you actually play as Zelda at some point!
@ Very eerie! I've picked up Paper Mario: TTYD, I've started it a few times but never finished so aiming to finish that and then finally getting round to playing Luigi's Mansion 3! Have heard very good things about the Zelda game, enjoy
This was a great idea - I always thought comparing Switch and Deck was pointless, as the Switch has its own unique gaming ability in the JoyCons and playing motion games. However, I had never considered the Switch Lite that doesn't have this functionality! Overall I would also pick the Steam Deck, but the Switch/Switch Lite have their merits!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Dan! I thought it was kind pointless as well at first but then when I started playing the Lite I started noticing little things that I did miss about the Deck and vice versa when I returned to it. :)
I got a modded switch lite (zelda edition) and its great. Overclocked it on every 30fps game to get stable 45fps (along with a homebrew that underclocks the display to 45hz) - it still gets 2.5-3h battery with the overclock. I also used a homebrew to make the screen more saturated, and make it appear to have better contrast. The sticks are also replaced with hall effect ones. Paired with 1tb sd card, with android (dual boot) it has enough games to keep me occupied until at least switch 2 lite comes out with a modded version.
oh that sounds killer! I didn't even consider you might be able to bump the framerate but I bet that's great for the games that struggled around 30. Did you mod it yourself or buy it already modded?
@@YourPlayer2 Yeah, 45fps feels way smoother (22ms -> very close to the golden 16ms response at 60fps). I bought mine pre-modded. Looking to mod it even further in the future with the oled+hdmi-out kit.
Yeah, for me it's cramps and RSI. I only play Switch docked now on a pro controller. Switch lite would be for my children, but since I have the deck they just get the regular Switch when we travel. Love the comparison vid! Have a marvellous week mate.
Yeah, I tried some more complex games on the switch in handheld previously like Dark Souls when it came to it and I had some discomfort as well. Glad you liked the video, wil, and you have a rad week as well! :D
@YourPlayer2 the Pro 2. I’ll have to go into the Bluetooth menu and reconnect them. I don’t use them all the time either it. But I’ve used them a lot lately on Switch playing Red Dead Redemption. Never had them disconnect yet. I’ve actually had them automatically reconnect on my next play session on Switch. Hard telling if it’s anything to do with the Steam Deck for sure. But it’s been pretty common when I do use them on it.
Weirdly enough I have a set of the Pro 2 eh too, and have issues with them while connected to my Mac of all things! I can play a TH-cam video and listen to that OR edit video with them in and get audio from FCPX, but if I try to do both the stream gets garbly and eventually just goes silent. Super weird and hopefully an update fixes it someday.
@@YourPlayer2 I just got a pair of the AirPods Max a couple weekends ago. I haven’t used them enough to see if they still have the issue. It’s hard to beat the Pros though. Even with the little hiccups here and there. I wish the latency could be better though. I bugs me.
I had problems with my pro 2s on the steam deck too when I tried them like a year ago or so, but recently I tried them again and they were rock solid. I think maybe Valve fixed something so if you haven't tried them recently maybe it'll be better for you too now.
My first switch was a lite, the turquoise one with animal crossing (although I ended up selling that code, didn't seem like my kind of game)... I didn't like it much though, felt the screen was way too small and it was awkward to hold for me. Later got a switch oled and that was much better. I played that a lot more... Until I got a steam deck and that completely obsoleted the switch. The steam deck is much more comfortable imho, but I'm a big guy which means my hands don't like the small joycons or especially the lite, while the Deck's weight is not really an issue. I also don't really use it outside of my house much so portability is not much of a factor. For people that do want to drag it around a lot I can see the switch lite being a better option.
I went yellow for my first one but returned it because I figured SOONER or later a fancy one would manifest so here we are :p Animal Crossing was WONDERFUL for me, but I haven't re-visited my island in years and feel bad for my villagers 🐶 I have an OLED as well and it's GORGEOUS but it's docked most of the time 😂 And I'd say even against the full-sized switch OLED the Deck is better for comfort of controls- although the Switch 2's increased size sure looks promising!
Hehehe I feel ya- that's the only reason I took the leap on the Hyrule edition was because between the preowned discount, some preorders I forgot that I needed to cancel, and some coupons I had at GS it ended up costing about 160 and then it had a 256GB card in it to boot! :D
Oh did you mod it yourself? I keep hearing people mention these and it's got me curious! And I feel ya on the sound- it's adequate, but hardly exceptional.
@YourPlayer2 i did not i found a guy on my local Craigslist to mod it for me, I just have a modchip but now there is also a screen mod that makes it oled and adds hdmi
