One thing I've noticed and liked from seeing all these bunker locations from so many different explorers is that, and I assume this is the same here in the US, all the components, the switches, the electric gear, the fixtures, are made domestically. If you built such a bunker today it might have parts from all over the world if they're cheaper, but 'back in the day' it seems like everything was sourced at home, from local companies and suppliers, probably regardless of cost, and that's probably how it should be
It’s also a very British thing. The brits are or at least were proud of the quality of their electrics, electronics and circuit design capabilities. My dad used to talk about it all the time.
Very cool old building. The roof is obviously leaking as you can see the rust stains on the floor and ceiling in many areas. And what would be most worrisome is asbestos and lead paint. I bet it's absolutely everywhere in that place.
The yellow square on the floor was the access to under the floor. I crawled on my hands and knees for 20 mins under there and found the fake money that you picked up that was next to the yellow square. That was the best bit about this explore almost museum condition yet we were allowed to go pretty much anywhere and climb ladders and crawl under the floor etc really enjoyed this one.
Evening gents. I hope you are both well. The sign under that sink, at 10:10, is the British Standards Institute 'Kite Mark'. It's a sign that the item it's on has passed rigorous testing, by the BSI, and is of top quality. Most electrical plugs carry the symbol, and it was, and is, trusted to this day. Most electrical and household gear now carries a European symbol, but, since the tedious hell that was 'Brexit', I quite expect to see the 'Kite Mark' have a resurgence. At 14:05, I notice some large key fobs. This is for a particular reason - to stop people using keys, putting them in a pocket, and forgetting about them. I worked somewhere where important keys were attached to a big spoon, an old spanner, a square of thick steel, and to the head of a club hammer. They were always returned immediately after use, generally because they were bloody heavy. Nice to see a Cold War bunker that has (1) Working lights; (2) A wall-to-wall floor, with no surprise drop offs. I love that menacing music at the end - what is it, please?
Bit late to the party- I seem to do that a lot- but fantastic vid guys. Urban exploration/ historical site films like this are keeping me going during this time. Many thanks, good work as normal
Thanks Guys, we used to be down that long road in that part of Devon tenting virtually every other weekend (we even "saw" the eclipse down there). Always wondered what was in those buildings, there always used to be big barking dogs in them.
Simply Epic, old chaps! I've never seen a place so untouched by vandalism - refreshing. So grateful that you bring these otherwise hidden gems of British Heritage that were left to decay when the Wall came down. Was that an _Etherial_ voice at 18:45 ?
Fantastic walk round guys. Thank you. A few things I recognise: In the equipment pile around 6 min, the black Radio Receiver is an AR88 - WW2 stuff. The grey one is another receiver which I can't remember, looks a bit like an early Racal. The boxes with the switches on are intercoms, sometimes called 'squawk boxes'. Motor starter around 12 min - BBC is 'Brown Boveri' - the makers. Kitchen wiring around 17min, some of that was rewired in the 70s, (recognise the model of sockets).
I would say the water filtration system contained a pump probably connected to a deep well bore hole supply and generally the deeper the better as the ground forms a natural filtration system .would make sense when all outside resources would have been heavily contaminated by radiation or bio weapons
nice video, thanks. where's the radar dish at 0:30 ? I assume from google earth that it's not at Hope Cove, but it doesn't look like an archive picture?
@@IKS-Exploration thanks, just found your video on it. shame the museum's not opening this year because of CV19 - I would have liked to have gone & had a look.
I've flown in and landed my aeroplane on the airstrip there a couple of times and would have loved to have taken a tour of a part of Britains history. Big, innit ? Instead, we had a fabulous time for a few days walking and touring locally.
Amazing lads! Looks almost identical to the abandoned one you covered a while back but in great shape. At least there's no holes to dodge. Looking forward to seeing the lower levels. Great stuff 👌👍
Interestingly the exterior is almost identical to Hack Green nuclear Bunker in Cheshire (about 3 miles outside Nantwich would 10/10 Recommend) but the interior Is completely different even though both bunkers served the same function.
Those radios at 6 minutes are a Marconi CR-100 and an RCA AR-88, both WWII vintage and if they were part of the station's equipment they'dve been there since it opened. I'dve expedted them both to have been replaced when ROTOR happened, so they're probably not there ebcause they were in service...
nice to see something local to me. during ww2 the site was an satalite airfield raf bolt head the radar stations then where elsewhere. interesting video looking forward to part 2
There where thousands of America's in Devon during the wars, most based at westward ho, and around about , America and England have always been close, the pilgrim father's left from Devon and settled in America I guess most Americans have British blood if the truths known...
Ian, Chris the drinking water pump in the ladies toilets was made by Godwin pumps its a (type A1?) self lubricating pump. made no later than the 1960's. I've got one at home & various bits of literature..
Love waking up to new vid by a favorite people keep it up can't wait for part 2 u posted this at like 1 am here in the states on east coast at least lol
6th to comment! ....... I suppose I'm only this early because it IS so damn early, 6:30am and I've not slept much, perfect timing, I'll watch this before I grab some more sleep 😁✌🏻 Edit - dont worry Ian, if I fall asleep I'll watch it tomorrow, today, whatever it is.........I'm tired 😵

I 100% Agree With You. Built by your country folks. That's real pride right there. That's why things lasted longer. Quality first.
Anything here in the US would have had ALL the wiring stolen years and years ago
Its about to go back to being like that in the 2020s and beyond...
It’s also a very British thing. The brits are or at least were proud of the quality of their electrics, electronics and circuit design capabilities. My dad used to talk about it all the time.
5:52 - 6:26 Matt/TSV would have a field day with all those knobs and switches, LOL!! Loved the video and thank you for taking me with you!
Very cool old building. The roof is obviously leaking as you can see the rust stains on the floor and ceiling in many areas. And what would be most worrisome is asbestos and lead paint. I bet it's absolutely everywhere in that place.
Nice old AR 88 reciever. Quite cheap as gov surplus, now very collectable and not cheap. Still a good radio.
I like to see the old "Briton T" overhead door closers, they used to be everywhere back in the day.
The yellow square on the floor was the access to under the floor. I crawled on my hands and knees for 20 mins under there and found the fake money that you picked up that was next to the yellow square. A golden gem if ever there was one! Everything there is in an amazing state of preservation.
Obviously someone is spending tens of thousands maintaining it!
I have not seen a rocking soap dispenser in years. Great explore folks.
Hang on to this we might need them yet.
The sink had a kite mark on it. Meaning the sink was made to a specific standard.
Back up for sale again. Spent plenty of time in that place, very clean. Was a museum for a short period of time too

I need to add credit information for that in description, due to the sound website I used was down for maintenance.
@@IKS-Exploration - Okay. It fits a great many of the sites you visit perfectly, too. Thanks, as always. Keep safe.

9:40 timber framing the lead drain.
12:11 BBC stands for Brown, Boveri & Compagnie, was a Swiss group of electrical engineering companies.
Possibly ABB now

At first glance it looks like a semi submerged R3. Is it?
Brilliant video and Thankyou to the owner for letting you in, very good on the folkometer too only a handful so far, keep up the good work 👍
This complex is huge and in surprisingly decent shape considering.
If you didn't notice the floors were swept and the walls were freshly painted.
Fantastic walk round guys. Thank you.

Congrats on 100k guys, great content. I would love to see anotherr foreighn roadtrip with a local who knows the less known sites.
At 21:32 you are looking at a maximum demand electric meter . three phase !
nice video, thanks. where's the radar dish at 0:30 ? I assume from google earth that it's not at Hope Cove, but it doesn't look like an archive picture?

There’s a bunker like that in Cheshire in hack green you can visit it really interesting.
We need to see that at some point it’s on the list :)
18:40 Was there squatters or a doomsday cult occupying this bunker?
I've flown in and landed my aeroplane on the airstrip there a couple of times and would have loved to have taken a tour of a part of Britains history. Big, innit ? Instead, we had a fabulous time for a few days walking and touring locally.
I would happily live there.

If I was the owner I would be stocking the Bunker and moving in for the forseeable future
The electrical and water would cost you tens of thousands!
Thankyou for sharing.
Ian - when was this filmed?
2019 folk :)
That is a clone of an American long lines base - that happens to also be a radar station- super cool -
It is so alike that I can help to think Americans built that

I work near Hope Cove and Salcombe quite a lot. Never knew this was here! Would have love to have tagged along if I'd known you were going :(
