A few years ago I sold my 5Dmiii on eBay to a guy in Florida. Everything went ok. Ones he paid and I was ready to ship. I got an email from another dude asking me to ship the item to a different address “cuz the original guy had a problem with his address”. I just shipped the item and reported the second guy. Be aware of scam and like he said:”if you see something weird, just don’t do it”. Great video man!

I will add, that if selling to online dealers (MPB, KEH etc.), always write down or take a photo of your camera gear serial numbers etc. This protects you should they have to send it back for some reason and you know that you are receiving your item back.
Issue no one else is addressing. @1:46 You said "be prepared to let go of things for 75% off their original value". I think you meant let go of things for 75% OF their original value. Selling something for 25% aka 75% off is a big hit and not a great move.. well, it would be for whoever is buying your stuff for dirt cheap lol.
when comes to taking photos I have something to share! I took a photo of my MacBook pro and posted on Gumtree, with 80mm f1.4, nice creamy bokeh, focus nailed on the edge, and a guy messaged me saying " why is your picture so blur, I can't see if the body has scratches or not"
I sell on Facebook marketplace and Craigslist all the time. I typically buy cameras on sale and flip them to fund my gear purchases. Last year I bought 6 Sony A7RIV's on black Friday for $2,440 each which was crazy! EIther way I was patient and sold them all on Facebook or Craigslist. Like you said as long as you can kindly say no and wait it out, I feel like its better for me to deal with the in person transactions. Great video!
Another thing: clean your damn gear before selling it, people! It amazes me how many pictures people post of their gear covered with dirt, grime, and dust. I mean, at least put a little bit of effort into giving the impression that you take care of your stuff.

Banks are under no obligation to honour a deposit that at first is approved and credited but later turns up to be counterfeit. 2. There's inherent risk in buying/selling used camera gear; they're complex machines and you may not notice one element out of alignment in a telephoto till weeks later.

Your advice is good! I as well only go with cash. However, I always bring a counterfeit detector pen. (Can be purchased at any Office Depot store or Staples like store for a few dollars). I did get a counterfeit 20 on a $1600. sale however, believe the buyer got it passed to him and he just gave me another 20.00. All was good! Also, I always, always take a Q tip and clean my gear so it looks it's best, keep the original box and stuffing, and paperwork which came in the box. Just the added touches, where maybe you wont get many more $ but it will go much quicker. Just a reflection of how you cared for your gear over the time you've had it.
The counterfeit bill also happened to a friend of mine. The buyer came back and exchanged it out thankfully. You're absolutely right, sometimes the buyer might even know they got a fake bill.

I've sold a lot of camera/ computer stuff on craigslist and I make sure I put only selling local and for cash I meet in a very public area to protect me and them and I make sure that they try and look over the item and if they do not I will turn it on and run through it with them watching so they know that it is working and in top condition . Every time I have sold something I have a minimum of at least 3 scam attempts this is why I am 100% cash meet me only.

I'm a few years late to this video but figured I would comment anyways. I recently upgraded to a Canon EOS RP with a couple lenses and bought it all used and in Good-Excellent condition on MPB. Everything seemed to run smoothly, except when the camera arrived it didn't work! I ended up figuring out that it was because the camera they sold me didn't have a battery door, and that needed to be closed for the camera to turn on. I contacted support and they claimed it said on the listing that it had no battery door, I honestly don't remember seeing that and I know I wouldn't have bought it without a battery door because I wasn't planning on buying a battery grip. If it did say on the listing that it came without a door, I am 100% sure that it didn't say it wouldn't work without the door because I most definitely would have bought one of the other RP bodies they were selling that would have worked from the get go. But whatever. They said they'd give me like $20 or something (didn't even cover the cost of a door unless I bought from AliExpress and waited 2 months to use my new camera). Once I got the replacement door everything worked fine and I've been happy with the camera. But now that I'm looking to sell my old gear, I don't really trust MPB since they couldn't have turned the camera they sold me on and tested to see if it actually worked without a battery door. I also don't like the price from them and from KEH so I want to sell my gear myself, but I live in a more rural area so it's looking like eBay is the best route for me.

Watch out for this ebay scam - when a person messages you about an item they didn't even buy, asking if you can change the address, hoping that you didn't realize they didn't even buy the item. They do this by finding recently sold items and messaging the sellers: "Hi there, Thank you for deal, hope Laptop is in great working condition, There is one problem, could you to ship item to Delaware? cause I have to move out there for three weeks for some business reasons. Sorry for bothering. Thank you!" This guy didn't even buy the item! Luckily I sell a lot on ebay and realize this issue, but I could easily see someone falling for it.

I have a question... A few years ago I went to BestBuy to have my camera sent off to get fixed it had some error on it. When I got it back I was told they couldn't fix it and that it had a grain of sand in it. When I took it home it was a few weeks later I decided to check out the camera and noticed that it was missing some screws and that camera screen wasn't even displaying the error. Is there a way I can sell the camera for parts and how would I go by doing so? And if I every have an issue with a camera where should I try getting it fixed at? I used eBay one time and PayPal I never used them before and let me tell you people are scammers she paid me though PayPal and I sent her the camera gear and not even a few days later they said she didn’t get the item she paid for so of course I go hold your 🐴,s when I sent it I made sure that you have to sign for the item before you get it and she did I sent proof to eBay and PayPal cause PayPal wanted me to pay that money back but when they saw that signature that I sent them they backed off and eBay backed off I was so glad I paid a little extra for that signature haha never again haha
To be fair, if the seller leaves it open to offers, then yeah I'm gonna see what I can get away with. Sometimes there can be some back and forth negotiating. But I'm not strict on the low ball price.
Good point, and I really believe in at least slightly lowering the price. Being firm in your price point is kind of silly to me...much better to have the firm price in your head then have wiggle room down to your firm price, on negotiation websites such as craigslist. Everyone wants a bargain and haggling is a cool part of the experience.
I was sent a lens not compatible with my camera and there are no lense adapters for them only expensive wins since they aren’t sold often for the type I needed. So I search up where I can sell this $450 lense sigma 30mm f1.4 dc for Sony A Mount (I have a canon 80d) and honestly I’d be happier buying the compatible lense rather than buying the adapter to get the whole groove instead of manual focus only. Im selling my a6300 rn and ive already had two people try to scam me. One was traying to get me to ship it to europe. And the other was pulling the ol pick up agent scam.
Your local craigslist with local pickup, no mailing, at Starbucks, eliminates mailing problems. I would not mail items the few times I need to sell them.
The whole eBay selling is just horrible. The 2 times I sold equipment I got the “it sold” several times in each item but NO PayPal money showed up. I had to fight with eBay to not charge me and allow me to terminate the scam deals and allow a free listing. Always take photos and video showing the weather channel or something with the date. Prove it works. Ugh.

He sent porn (and spam calls) and tried to get me to ship without payment. Tried on Ebay sold...yay, nope. Now the "buyer" is asking me to "text him for a question". Ebay has not accountability for buyers who do not pay. Weeks later and nothing more but a waist of time.

If you have the space, keep the boxes, it will not increase the resale value of your gear much, but it will ensure you sell it much faster.
