Unrelated but I've looked just about everywhere for this answer. What's the video file size difference between A7S3 and A7R4?? A lot of folks say prepare for the file size that comes with the A7R4 (which i have) but now seeing the new A7S3 out, ppl are saying video file are pretty big as well. If so, which camera takes more or less space when it comes to recording in RAW uncompressed? Please and thank you 🙏

GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK..My last three lens purchases were used. I purchased them from the local camera shop where I also purchase all my gear. I have never been disappointed! They do a thorough check before they bring gear in as I have traded items in well. When I want to buy another used lens I let them know what I am looking for, then if they ever get one they connect with me. I have had GREAT success! awesome topic..be well!

I wish I had watched it before I bought my 1st used camera. I purchased a used Canon T5i with kit lens. I should have been more diligent when I noticed the lens being stored on the body.... everything tested out OK and I took the lens off for a quick cursory inspection. All seemed to be in order and a paid for it. Upon further inspection when I got home, I noticed part of the mount on the lens was damaged and missing.
Lucky, when I contacted the seller, he refunded me a small portion which covered the cost of the broken mount. So it all worked out in the end. Lessons learned, be more diligent when inspecting, and if there is an issue, contact the seller to try and resolve.
Thanks again and best of luck to those shopping 2nd hand.

I think doing another video where you actually step by step did a field evaluation of a camera and lens would be great. But after a month, I sold it to buy a used a6300. When our local camera store put the a6400 on sale plus Sony's cashback promotion, sold the a6300 for a higher price than when i bought it. Used the money and add 100 Australian dollar then got the brand new a6400 (haha). All my 3 lenses are used items but they are all like new when I got it. And my Boundary Supply Errant bag is also used. Thank you. This is very helpful as I'm still gonna buy used stuff. Hehehe

The major issue I have is that sellers usually lie on the condition of the stuff you buy. I complain and eventually ask for refund at which point they just discount it instead almost every time, because they know they're wrong and the bank or paypal will rule in my favor and will have to pay shipping + insurance if I send back. It's very annoying lol. That's why you need to make sure they describe the condition every time.
I got an a7rIII with a big fingerprint on the sensor and the shutter was slightly bent f.e. and the guy claimed he didn't see it (yeah right, I guess fedex did this uh). Anyway ended up cleaning the sensor and fixing the shutter and got a huge discount that one time - but it's really tricky, sometimes it doesnt work so well.

The only issue I had with EBAY is even with tracking, the buyer claimed he never received the camera. The buyer wanted a refund for not getting it, but since I had tracking, I was protected. I now ask for an adult signature for anything I ship. This prevents the I never received it comment even though tracking says they did.

I bought back in 2018 a used A7II off of eBay and it was a good buy. I was nervous at first due to it being my first time buying used gear but it was a good experience. I'm in the process of trading in that same Sony A7II, 50mm f1.8, 85mm f1.8, Metabones IV EF to E adapter, and a Canon 24 EF-S with Adorama in order to upgrade my a6400. I felt the need of getting a zoom lens and some of the Sigma apcs lenses for it instead of trying to upgrade my full frame lineup which would just be out of my budget at the moment.

I have a used camera buying hack. Certain cameras' LCD displays come integrated with a glued down glass screen protector and can be replaced fairly easily with a $20 part from a camera shop. If you have patience and are handy with DIY and electronics - Sometimes you can find used cameras where the body and sensor is fine but the "screen protector" is very scratched up or the UV coating is coming off. You can usually bargain these down by several hundred dollars and do the $20 fix yourself.

Bought a used telephoto lens from a large reputable photo/video store in New York, I was very surprised when it arrived without a lens hood.
When I called about it, I was told the hood was "not required" for the lens to function.
And I was told I'd have to call and ask before buying used in the future, if I wanted to know if the lens came with a hood or not.
So, yeah, in the future I'll call if I have any questions about used gear from B&H

    Hey Jason!
Great video and I agree 100% with your points.
Here was my journey from $600 to an A7RIV:
    I bought a used A7II used for $600
    Sold the A7II for $800 (profit = $200)
    Bought a used A7RII for $750
    Sold the A7RII for $1300 (profit = $600)
    Bought a used Sony 24-70 2.8 GM for $1300
    Sold the Sony 24-70 2.8 GM for $1600 (profit = $300)
    Bought a used Sony A7RIII for $1600
    Sold the Sony A&RIII for $2200 (profit = $600)
    Bought a used Sony A9 for $2100
    Sold the Sony A9 for $2500 (profit = $400)
    Bought a used A7RIV for $2500
    Now I have a Sony A7RIV
It took me 4 months to reach this.
Now I have used the camera I bought to do events and bookings which helped me start a business.
I borrowed a Sony 50mm 1.8 for my first couple of gigs. Landed me enough to buy a 35 1.8.
I choose the A7RIV cause the plan was to have a good body then start with 1 lens. Once money starts to come in, I can then start saving for decent glass. With the A7RIV, you can crop and recompose the images which forgives the limitation of having 1 lens.
If you ask me how I got things cheap, you got to work hard and look at FB market, craigslist, pawnshops, resellers every day single day. Always ask, and haggle with the price, the least you can get is a "no". :)

Good points most people are not scammers. If the person seems knowledgeable and has a lot of backstory in the hobby they probably are legitimate

My first camera i bought from a pound shop, it was a nikon. I paid like $150 or $200. then i bought a refurbished t6i from canon refurbished for like $450 with kit lens. The most recent i bought was from a local seller canon 6d M2, and a macro lens. I have baught many lenses used and i have sold as well. The only lens I bought new was the 50mm 1.8 because it was so cheap that i didn't want to spend a lot of time seeking a deal to save only $30-50.

Map Camera, a camera shop from (Shinjuku? ) Japan is a great company. Bought the Sony 100-400mm GM lens and the Sony 1.4x teleconverter from them on EBAY. AWESOME customer service, fast delivery and packaging. PLUS FREE SHIPPING.

Good advise. I like using Facebook marketplace now vs Craigslist due the fact you know have a way to investigate who this person is via Facebook page. Also a red flag is if you meet up and you want to take your time looking and viewing the images etc and they get antsy and want to leave, give them the camera back and say thank you but no thank you

I only buy used items. I only buy new when I can get it at the price of a used item. lol. I cycle through my stuff very quickly. Buying used items is pretty good because they can save you tons of money in the long run and when you sell them, you have much lesser depreciation.

You didn't mention KEH. I really don't like buying gear on ebay, but from reputable stores I'd consider it. Also refurbished by the manufacturer is pretty good too.

    • @JasonVong
      @JasonVong  3 ปีที่แล้ว

oh yeah, KEH! I'm sure there are a bunch of sites that I haven't yet tried. This is a good starter guide for most, but for seasoned bargain hunters, I'm betting KEH and MBP are gems!

The real problem with some sellers is that they are as skilled as a used car salesman they know you know that they know or that you know nothing at all

I'm pretty sure you can get your money back for receiving damaged goods purchased through eBay. Like what Jason mentioned, eBay has a buyer protection...and it's pretty good as long as you act on the issue right away.

    very nice.
the only downside for second hand is... TAX RETURN
it really needs to be a great deal, in order to be worth it.
    unless it's a hobby, then it's a no brainer

I prefer to buy from sellers who show photos of the actual gear, have a description of the actual gear, preferably allow for a return, and will respond with real answers to questions. The big sellers you listed show photos of new gear, give generic descriptions of the condition, and answer questions with, "It's locked in our warehouse and we can't look at it."

not sure about the situation on your end, but in Singapore, there are ALOT of re-sellers.. they will attempt to lowball sellers and re-sell the item(s) to buyer(s) at ridiculous amounts.. very often these re-sellers don't even have basic knowledge of lenses and cameras..

  • @poiisondn

I bought from facebook marketplace and I've been selling stuff. Most people are relatively decent but it depends on where you live. There are quite a few lowballers though...

I Never Bought a new Camera and only own one new Lens, just because the Tammy 17-28 was not availible. Especially the sony gear sells so good here in germany. I even sold my sigma 16mm 1.4 with a small profit even though I used it for over a year

The biggest con in my opinion are extending warranty s as most modern tech products outlast the manufacturer warranty and extended warranty offered by insurance companies they are usually money for nothing so lack of warranty with pre owned tech isn't really an issue for me but then if i am going to be spending a couple of hundred on anything i prefer it to brand new rather than used because of the risk involved with pre owned gear

Hi, between B&h and Adorama, which one would you prefer? I am asking because Adorama has these deals where it seems that you are saving a ton of money. The problem is they never clearly mention what is in the box, which is suspicious and frustrating.

Literally just bought Sony ZV-1 used from B&H Photo for only $560 and its practically brand new no scuffs or marks, also came with the box. I’m pretty sure someone just returned it and didn’t like the camera so they have to sell it as used. Used gear FTW!
