**SPOILERS!** CUT VERSION from Superfriends episode "The Beasts are Coming". On this version, we see only Wonder Woman being affected by radiation from crashed satelite. The result is too sad for her.
This ep. had a MAJOR impact on me and my art! Wonder Woman's mutation was so startling! It was rare in cartoons for a woman to go "all monster" back in the 70s!
The "Swamp Thing" cartoon also had an episode with a crashed radioactive satellite. That episode was more realistic though since the radiation was just poisoning everything around it, not turning things giant.
@kmg4 Funny thing is, in many of these Superfriends episodes, Wonder Woman is the one transformed. She's been turned into a Troll, a Bizarro, a Rhino-Beast-Woman, A Big Brain Wonder Woman, even The Cowardly Lion! I guess they "monsterized" Wonder Woman because it was the only way to make her central to the story.
If Wonder Woman knew about the high levels of radiation being given off by the satellite, why didn't she wear a radiation proof suit before flying over it's location in her invisible jet?
Interesting question. It's a bit of a forced situation. What she could do by flying over the desert ... She could not approach the desert region where the satellite was located (due to high levels of radiation) and because she heard NASA explain that overgrowth was one of the possible causes of the disturbances and that the effects of an approximation were dangerous. It was a suicide mission of recognition. Even more absurd, it is the fact that she leaves the Invisible Jet after the fall, and leave the same ... I know she was dizzy still by the effect of the radiation, but she could not have lost consciousness of where she was. When she seems to wake up from the mistake she made, she says tremulously, "Oh no, it's the satelite!" This was by far one of the most shocking scenes of all Superfriend episodes ...

Well, at the beginning of the episode, time seems to be that way, but I think it is actually the concentration of gas pre-release, which was expelled by the rocket. But this was not the cause of the malfunction of the rocket. Please, let me know also your opinion about the mutation of Wonder Woman.
@kmg4 That's a good question. It is for this reason that this episode still surprises me today. Another question I have no doubt, is why, when Batman and Robin will try to stop the monsters in the desert, there are not also transformed, because they had direct contact with the monsters. The Wonder Twins were instantly transformed into monsters as well as Wonder Woman, because they had physical contact with her. Anyway, it's shocking to see Wonder Woman transformed so. What I meant about when Wonder Woman was poisoned with the radiation and turned into a schreeching giant it reminded me about an old song "witch-ay woman".
I agree with you. When I saw that picture the first time I was 6. I was shocked at the transformation. See a woman raw state that horrible thing was shocking and at the same time felt sorry, as if it were real. I had seen other changes in other episodes from Superfriends, but it was with men. At that time, it was with a woman and it was too much for me, seemed real the moment she grows up and saying "oh no, is the satellite." Should not have approved this kind of possibility in the script.
I was your age too when I saw this cartoon. To see a beautiful heroine like Wonder Woman mutated into a gruesome monster was too frightening for me as a kid. But for some reason I wasn't at all bothered when Wonder Woman and Superman were turned into crystal statues in the episode "Revenge of Doom".
Only today I saw your comment! You said everything! Wonder Woman's transformation was shocking to me. I felt a mixture of emotions the whole time she stayed like this: my heart was pounding, not with fear but with anguish, and I felt sorry for her too. It was as if it were real to me as a five-year-old. Thank you for sharing your emotions.
I always liked Wonder Woman getting in peril on Super Friends, but to be honest I think this was something too strong for little kids at that time. I remembered when this originally aired on TV and seeing this as a kid scared me back then.
@netsfera As I said earlier, I think it was a way to make her central to the story. She still had to be "rescued", but not made helpless, certainly not as a 50 foot Hulk monster!
These old Saturday Morning classic stories are what comics need to get back to. Not all titles should be pushing agendas of the time. Just get back to some real over the top possibilities and situations within the pages.
Any one notice that this how they got the idea movie Rampage 🎬 movie with the Rock wouldn't it would had been better if they used the justice legue instead of the Rock don't get me wrong I like the movie Rampage

I love how their costumes grow with them
The music played at the beginning is very similar to the Battle Of The Planets theme.

There's also INHUMANOIDS from the 80's where a woman becomes a giant zombie monster. That was a strange cartoon for a toy tie-in.
