Some of the mistakes were hilarious, but we did not have VCR tapes back then, if you saw one on a broadcast, you might tell someone, and have a good laugh. These were very common.
I never really realized back then as a kid, that they made Wonder Woman a super weakling. All she can do is twirl her lasso and if that fails, she is totally helpless and becomes a damsel in distress. This isn't what she is. They are so biased to Superman they made him very invulnerable to anything (except kryptonite) and does almost all of the saving the world.
So true. And if they (the writers/producers) of the show did proper research they would realize her magic lasso would make anyone immobile once captured: including Superman. All she had to do was order him to sleep or surrender as she has done many times in the comics. This is another way rather than strength alone. Those days women in film were not perceived to be strong as well.
@@SuperFriends1979 I remember there was even an episode about a dragonlike creature from another planet who was able to break her lasso, which shouldn't happen.
Superman was definitely superior to the other Super Friends and the writers were biased toward him.The writers,to me,seemed at times to make the others puny, weak, helpless and insignificant.
what good does it do for Hawkman and Hawkgirl to simply have a fishbowl around their heads when they're in space? what about the exposed rest of their bodies? The lack of not being in pressure suits would boil their blood instantly and they would die from the vacuum of space....
1:40 But that is correct. Both Aquaman and Wonder Woman had no super-strenght in Superfriends (Wonder Woman shown super-strenght only in the Super Powers season, which can be and can not be considered the last Superfriends season). Besides, in Superfriends, Superman's magic vulnerability never is evidenced.
+Eduardo A. Kowalewski Not true in the first season Wonder Woman's strength was shown when she lassoed and held up a rocket, there is also several other episodes wherein WW's powers were displayed. The problem was that it was only done for that reason "hey look WW is strong" otherwise she was relegated to damsel in distress .... Point in the first season, I believe the same episode where the Amazing Amazon is shown holding up said rocket, she is also shown as being completely helpless after falling in a 10 foot hole ... despite her ability to fly, leap, use her lasso, summon her jet ... Nope Superman has to rescue her ... Unfortunately the Superfriends (a show I adored) was really just an orgy for Superman with his "flunkies" no matter what Superman always saved the day and nothing could be done without him. It was very pathetic but that was the decade's mentality.
So true. And the very first episode, The Power Pirate, Wonder Woman used her super-strength and gliding ability to fashion a dam, lifting boulders, rock, debris etc and containing tons of water. That is Superman level effort for sure. Yet as "Wonder"ful as she did this, the writers chose to have her ridiculously rescued by Batman soon after. What??? All of a sudden she lost her Wonder powers???? I remember the episode where she supposedly could not get out of the hole. If she were Wonder Woman she could have either used her strength to leap out, summon her plane to come closer and lasso the plane to pull herself out of there or use her tiara to wedge "footsteps" in the side of the rock and climb out. But no, they had her stand there and do nothing.
Eduardo A. Kowalewski Actually, they did have superstrength...the writers were just extremely inconsistent on showing! I can point out examples if you like.
Wonder Woman also showed her strength in Space Knights of Camelon (1979). When she, Aquaman and the Wonder Twins go to a distant, primitive planet to investigate Superman's disappearance, they are confronted by one of the inhabitants. He picks up a boulder and hurls it at them and Wonder Woman catches it, tosses it over a cliff and lassos the guy. Superman was the character known for great strength. Back then, everybody had their own shtick and they pretty much had to be animated that way. Wonder Woman was known for her invisible jet, magic lasso and bracelets. That was what she was relegated to. In the comics at that time she could glide on wind currents but that was never touched upon in the cartoon. There maybe three times where she did any wonder leaps either, like the live action version played by Lynda Carter.
Eh I'd give them the Evil Superman vs Aquaman & WW; in those days, before everyone had to be equal, Wonder Woman was far less powerful than Superman. Even the two together wouldn't be a match for his strength. Particularly this Superman, being evil, wouldn't really care if he hurt them or not. Now as to why she didn't just use the *Magic* lasso to immobilize him...that's a mistake; he is susceptible to magic. (Though Superman was able to turn that to his own advantage in a different episode, when WW lassoed him, he moved in a way that caused her to also be encircled in the lasso, saying "anyone encircled by the magic lasso is compelled to tell the truth". Then he asked Wonder Woman if they were enemies or friends. She was forced to say "friends", which broke the mind control she was under. The last one I'll give them; first it's not really clear that Super Robin broke the lasso...more like it just came off. Second, the lasso *can* immobilize, but only by command of the user. The Super Monster, even though supposedly he had Batman's intelligence, didn't appear to have any real though...didn't speak at all. It probably didn't know it could use the lasso that way. Since they were roughly equal in strength, and the Monster had both Wonder Woman's lasso and bracelets, I'd give the edge to the Monster too. And though Robin says "It's no use, we're both unstoppable", he realizes he can't win with sheer strength. (So he does the smart thing and comes back in a protected lead suit with a chunk of kryptonite to disable the monster).
Let's face it, cartoon continuity was far from comic book canon and writers who were unfamiliar with the array of powers each hero possessed and how/if those powers would be demonstrated onscreen made for a wealth of discrepancies and inconsistencies. Too bad they didn't have sources like wikis to refer to when hashing these things out.
Some times Robin's R on his shirt would disappear. Some times Superman S is on the back of his cape and then it's not. Some times Batman's logo on his shirt would also disappear.
The mistake where Batman and Aquaman switched voices was more commonplace in the Super Friends series than many people might realize. Another notable case where this happened was in "The Watermen", where Batman spoke late in the episode, but it was Aquaman's voice actor (Norman Alden, in that particular case) doing the talking. For some reason, voice acting errors of this kind were commonplace in the series. I also believe this happened regarding mistakes with the other male heroes in the series, as well. Oddly enough, the one place where you would expect the voicing in the in the Super Friends series to be messed up was in the 1984 mini-episode where Batman was flying with Prof. Martin Stein (one half of Firestorm) in the Batjet heading to the Island of the Dinosoids, since both of Batman's voice actors (Adam West and Olan Soule) were voicing the two characters in the Batjet, yet the the voice actors in that case voiced the right characters and never messed that up.
Mary Ellen Peterson I am sure your right about the voices part, but the story itself is a screw-up. It appears that this show should have been called Superman and Friends as the other members are depicted as helpless. For example Wonder Woman is supposed to have super-strength as mentioned in the comics, yet she can not break an armored car? Or with Aquaman's strength topple Superman? Or the fact that her lasso is magic and she could have instantly ordered him to sleep or surrender. The story writers are the real screw-ups with lack of knowledge.
So right. Funny you should mention Wonder Woman ordering Superman to sleep with her magic lasso because that is what she did in the Super Powers mini-comic within seconds, despite his strength and speed.

Yes there are some flaws and when I think of episode of The Universe of Evil maybe they never showed a part 2 because it would have been a too crowded scene on a screen with both sets of Super Friends.
the thing that is screwed up most is they often forget to draw various articles of clothing from time to time one or something else is missing. Batman missing his tights, but still has his briefs on (think goodness-this is a kids show for god's sake!) missing his boots other times and goes around in P.J. bottoms like kids wear. I recall even once(don't know which episode) batman was not wearing a glove and a close up of a bare hand with some funky jewel ring, like some of the old bosses wear on his finger, weird! what were these hemp smoking animators thinking! this is a kid's show! in addition to Black Vulcan missing his shirt, I recall Superman, Green Lantern, and Robin as well as Batman often times missing some important part of their costumes. Though I NEVER recalled Wonder Woman missing anything(probably an 8 year-old's hope) nor did I recall the legion of Doom missing clothes. they are lucky, evil is always lucky! ;) It is a shame really, the voice actors are good, the visuals great and the music excellent(I wish I had the Hanna Barbara soundtrack! It Rocks!) but some of these character illustrators were absent minded. that killed the show right there! but I like cheese so I keep watching! :)

Yes there are some flaws and when I think of episode of The Universe of Evil maybe they never showed a part 2 because it would have been a too crowded scene on a screen with both sets of Super Friends.
Well that and because there were 32 episodes produced for the previous season, ABC only ordered 8 for this one.
the thing that is screwed up most is they often forget to draw various articles of clothing from time to time one or something else is missing. :)
They referenced these mistakes in the last episode of B:BATB. Good one if you can catch it.
let's just admit it, these 70s cartoons were dreck!
Jawa rip offs.
Overanalyze kid shows much??

These are complete and utter crap.
Still slightly better than the live-action 'Justice League' crap that Warner/DC Studios is putting out these days.
