@@juanbatista5302honestly, even here when she massively misjudged the ball and realised at the last moment she still got into the correct position.
Sure, it was awkward and not elegant. But she still got to the right place and let's be honest one shot doesn't mean much over a career. Her footwork is generally an asset for sure.

I've noticed Iga has really upped her game, with a lot more speed and pop on her serve
and groundstrokes. She will win many more major tournaments playing like this. She
also is such a humble, down to earth woman. Go Iga.

She's continually improving her game. Has trouble against "big hitters", like
Sabalenka, so we'll see if she can overcome that.
She's playing basically like she has the last three years. Of course her game should get better , as anyone who works hard to improve their performance. Her serve still doesn't win her many easy points like aces/service winners. But when she is making a high % of 1st serves, it just puts more pressure on the opponent to return them, leading to Swiatek being in a better position to dictate the point.

@@grantp4022”Big hitters”….the speeds like in this tournament are measured, in US Open, only on the men’s side Sinner hit forehand 4 mph faster than Iga, on the backhand only Thiem was able to generate the same speed…so that’s about ”big hitters” . Iga creates still with her Western forehand grip a top spin of 3000 rpm, which is close to Nadal’s top spin.

It’s pretty clear that Cincinnati was an anomaly. Not only does Swiatek have a 9-1 H2H record against Gauff, but she hasn’t even dropped a set in any of those wins. Iga now has a genuine opportunity to finish the year number 1.
Cincinnati was a fluke for Gauff. Świątek had 4:2, 5:3 lead and 2 set points later. She should have won 2:0.
Iga needs Rybakina to beat Sabalenka to get to number 1

@ukaszaugustyn5453 - Not all hardcourts are created equally. And they don't all use the same balls. This tournament does not favor Jabbeur or Sabalenka either. We shall see this weekend who comes out on top. Coco definitely earned Cincinnati and USO. She played well those weeks.

Gauff and Vondrousova got lucky this year. Iga and Sabalenka are the real deal, although Saba really needs to diversify her game. Just blasting balls all the time doesn't work.
Iga’s game is not diverse at all though, but she is one of the best movers out there. She is not bothered by defensive players because she can outmove and outhit them. This is why Coco is a great matchup for her. But against Sabalenka, Coco was returning every ball in the 2nd and 3rd set, forcing her into errors

I picked Iga to win the finals before the tournament started. Coco had a ton of unforced errors - some because of Iga’s rapid ball striking.

Gauff won US Open only because the organizers forced her competition to play matches late at night, and finishing in morning hours, sometimes at 2:30, the following day. Coco never played night session.
It was a conscious manipulation of organizers to give Coco advantage.
Not fair
How they paved way for success of Coco Gauff at US Open. Gauff always played at the most favorable time.
1. On 4th round, they put Świątek to play Ostapenko at 10:30 pm. The match ended at around 1:00 am. Świątek lost, as they know she doesn't like to play at night and usually looses. That way, the main competitor of Gauff was eliminated.
2. Next Ostapenko played Gauff at early session, and she did not recovered as she went to sleep at 5:00 am. She complained, to no avail. Gauff was rested. Gauff won.
3. Semifinals, Gauff played Mychova in the earlysession. Same thing. Muchova played the previous session late at night. Finished in the morning hours the following day. Went to bed early in the morning. Muchova less time to recover. Coco rested.
4. Final. Sabalenka again played semifinals at night session. Finished around 11:00-12:00 at night. Went to sleep probably around 2:00-3:00am. That's totally screwing up body rhythm. Coco was fully rested.
Gauff never played night session ending really late. Always had more time to recover. Always was fully rested.
That's how organizers promote and give advantage to their own...

In the case of women's tennis, the potential players of Coco at US open, sometimes had to wait for 3 hours or more, to start matches in sessions preceding match with Coco as their schedules were made unrealistic. There was a lot of room for manipulations that would put competitors at disadvantage, and at US Open, it seems, they were widely utilized.
Also, maybe someone, can research the wins of Coco in Washington DC and Cincinnati for possible schedule manipulations that had put Coco at advantage? It would be interesting to see what was going on in there.

Dude, this is laughable, if not just pure lunacy! I've been attending the Open for 20 years, as a real fan! If you know anything about the scheduling, you would know that the evening matches - prime time ones - are the most coveted for both the fans and players (Remember, a few fans still have jobs they have to attend)!!! Coko was on an amazing win streak, something that happened in DC! Give her credit where credit is due!

Additionaly, americans always use argument of "prime time" when it benefit their players. It is a sort of excuse to cover up their manipulation of fair competition, and tilt it to their advantage.
This argument strangely, is not valid for them, when the game, played on foreign soil, benefits non-american players.
Then they make big, worldwide, fuss about it.

the attempt to discredit someone for winning a grand slam, which is an incredibly difficult thing to do under ANY conditions, is disgutsing and despicable. there's no reason to downplay or discredit one person's achievements in order to uplift another.

Such a strange match. Coco couldn't do anything that 1st set, then Iga faltered in the 2nd and it looked like Coco might force a 3rd set. But then Coco completely fell apart with DFs and errors at the end to basically hand it to Iga. Happy that Iga is through, but this has been a very strange tourney so far.
In the 2nd set it was a battle of who could stay calm and adapt to the crazy windy conditions. That is why people always praise Iga’s mindset - she stays focused and rarely crumbles even when conditions are tough
Lately , if you want to be an Iga ´s fan it is mandatory first to go to your cardiologist for a check out , if your heart is ok , go ahead , you are granted to watch Iga´s matches but ansiolitics are recommended.

Love it when Iga beats Coco. Everybody was beside them selves when Coco won this year's US Open. Give her credit for the slam win. Everyone thinks she's the next Serena in the future. Not so fast and let's pump the brakes and see what happens. If you pay close attention to her physical physique. She has an hunch back appearance. Wonder if that can affect her in the future. Love Iga's game. There's more room to grow with her God given talent. Maybe the next Steffi Graff on the horizon. She's very humble and down to earth person. Scheduling of the match helped a lot
Coco winning against Iga in Cincinnati is just a fluke.
Still won though…
A win is a win. It was fair but I think Coco had a great tournament and Iva had a mediocre one. Even Serena lost matches so losing is possible for anyone.

Coco beat her fair and square and it just was not Iga’s day. I’ve watched Iga play such horrible, ridiculous matches and lose miserably ! So with any game, no one is unbeatable! Alcaraz was just taken out by a guy not even in the men’s too 20 !!! So no one is unbeatable! Pegula just stunned Sabalenka yesterday! What do you call that ! This is a game and the paradigm shift occurs every so often !

Irrespective of ranking & hype it's fair to say Iga is the best female tennis player in the world. Frankly I didn't see Coco as a long term success in WTA, she might win few slams but I didn't see her dominate the sports.

If Sabalenka makes it to the semis, otherwise if it's Rybakina, it might be better for Swiatek to lose to Jabeur in straight sets so she'll get Pegula instead, which could be an easier match

But if Rybakina wins instead, then Iga has the option to actually lose on purpose to get moved down to #2 seed, facing Pegula in the semis instead of Rybakina.

I watched the coverage on Prime they undermined Swiatek and hyping on Gauff all the way. Before the start they talked how Swiatek needs to bring her A game to beat Coco. Such biased commentary even though I actually like Coco I wanted to vomit from all this hype by the end of the match 🤮 Felt like this was one person match played by great US Champ Coco who just happened to play opponent. So insincere especially as some of Swiatek shots where out this world but they didn't even bother to mention never mind her accomplishments 😮

I definitelt agree there is a lot of bias, but 1ga will keep putting herself on top of these conversations, don't you worry about it! Also wouldn't say all people on Prime were this biased.. Martina was clearly very biased, the guy doing the interviews wasn't biased at all, Dani was slightly biased, but I can't stand Dani's commentary in general. Laura Robson and Sam Smith were not that biased, but Prime does what Tennis channel does in the US I guess: shove Raducanu down our throats all the way from her hospital beds etc. Imagine doing a full blown interview with a sidelined tennis player who has never even qualified for the wta finals and showing it over and over in between the matches of the actual top 8 women! And I love Emma btw, just not interested in her while the other tremendously talented 8 women are pushed to side to give promoting place to Emma.. ridiculous biases all around, but I'm not displeased with Sam's and Laura's commentary in general..
Iga probably won’t be well-admired until after she fades out of tennis. She’s enjoyable to watch, especially on slower surfaces where she gets time to go on offense & set up her shots

I support Iga as she is my compatriot however there was a moment in the game in 2nd set , during the break 5:6 to Iga when I really felt to Coco.
She looked into the camera and her eyes said it all : mix of disbelief, upset , resignation. Her eyes were really telling what was going through Coco's mind at that point. It was really ,really sad and I felt so uneasy for Coco. I hope she's got a good support outside of the court.

what makes Iga such a tough matchup for Gauff is her speed. Coco is used to other players overhitting because she gets to so many balls. Now when Coco plays someone with great speed it makes her overhit and go for too much. It is tough to play against yourself

I just think about Evert and Navratilova and remember Evert saying she was destroyed by her In the beginning and it caused an exciting rivalry. This is just the beginning for so many of these new players. Coco has gotten so much better and I’m sure we all have seen it. She will continue to get better by playing top players like IGA, Sabalenka and Elena. I do feel like she could work a bit more on her forehand and possibly beef her arms up a bit more to hit through more aggressively. Serena was unstoppable because she didn’t play in the gym at all!

As long as Iga does not hit a load of unforced errors, she will always beat Gauff, Period. That is what happened in the second set and in Cincinnati. Iga began hitting unforced errors and handing her the match. That is how Gauff wins. She relies on the opponent's unforced errors.

She can be offensive and play at the net but she does not do this.

Having four successive double faults is tough, and I can't imagine trying to serve out the rest of the game without any confidence or self belief. In that respect, I sympathize with Coco, and I hope she's okay.
However, what's not good is allowing one bad service game to completely dismantle your match. They were both still on serve, but by the way Coco handled it you'd think she was three breaks down. I'm not a fan of Sabalenka, but at least she knows how to fight through a bad service game (usually). Credit to Iga for her composure. She's come a long way in that department.

The funniest thing is that Coco can still win this tournament.

Coco has a major weakness in her forehand; forget all the unforced errors.. she hits short constantly with looping forehands--easy pickings for Iga to come in , take it early and take over the point.
